Counter That Pokemon! - Round 20

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 9

I'd go back to the old system where anything that works gets a point, but w/e.

Chillarmy's Specs Latios

No. Can't switch in on HP Ghost, Rain Hydro Pump, and Icy Wind.

-

Dark Void's Bulky Slowbro

Lacks the SpDef lol. Maybe an Icy Wind? ;\

-

TDL's (Pride's) Toxicroak

Not 2HKO'd by any move, will beat it down with Drain Punch, and can maybe even setup depending on the move. The spread is built for Keldeo so ... wynaut give it a plus?

+

Bippa's Specially Defensive Jellicent

While yes it does counter, I don't feel too strong about taking away from the physical bulk Jellicent so desperately needs. Maybe it's just that SpDef Jellicent looks bad on paper. I guess it works but ... I'm just not feeling it. I'll give it a plus anyways though since it works vs Keldeo.

+

Paddy's Rogue Suicune

No ... just no.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 9

the slowbro takes everything just fine except hp shadow which yoshi added on after I posted

not gonna bother updating it though, just ignore it

This works for me.

Yoshi, send me a profile message when you're done this round and I'll put up the next. :)

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 9

The only reason I did it this way is because I'm not very good at judging the "best" counter for a round. I'd rather have more experienced players on the site judge each other instead of one person making the final judgment call. That was the only reason; I didn't mean to make any drastic changes.

This is still on, and maybe I'll do a little judging on my own.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 9

Let's have a new round now. Its Christmas so here's an ice type.

Kyurem-B @ Leftovers
Ability: Teravolt
EVs: 232 HP / 252 SDef / 24 Spe
Nature: Careful
- Substitute
- Fusion Bolt
- Ice Beam
- Hidden Power Fire

go!

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 11

That is easy! Simply use Quagsire.

Quagsire (F) @ Leftovers
Trait: Unaware
EVs: 248 HP / 8 Atk / 252 SDef
Sassy Nature (+SDef, -Spd)
- Recover
- Toxic
- Scald
- Earthquake

Kyurem-B cannot really do anything to quagsire since Ice Beam barely 3HKO's after Spikes and Quagsire has a reliable Recovery. Quaggy cannot do much back but Kyurem-B has no recovery, leftovers as best which are negated in Sandstorm anyway. The best thing Kyurem can do is hope for a freeze or a crit. Quagsire cannot surely break the sub with Earthquake but it has a chance with those 12 Atk EVs. They are not a must, but the 4 EVs less won't matter too much anyway. If you use Curse you'll have an easier time but I never found curse Quagsire in OU too usefull. I used Quaggy several times before and I liked it, helps me againt Rainrachi and counters a shitload of Pokemon. The Sdef set is especially good to beat stuff like the already mention SubCM Jirachi, Heatran, Thundurus, Jolteon and whatever.

Calcs:
0SpAtk Teravolt Kyurem Black (Neutral) Ice Beam vs 252HP/252SpDef Leftovers Quagsire (+SpDef): 28% - 33% (112 - 133 HP). Guaranteed 4HKO.
8Atk Unaware Quagsire (Neutral) Earthquake vs 232HP/0Def Leftovers Kyurem Black (Neutral): 21% - 25% (96 - 114 HP). Guaranteed 5HKO.

Edit: I know that it's not the best counter, I don't want to have to hope for no hax for that long, but it should work out, it was the first thing that came to my mind and meanwhile I know some others too, if you want something else :)

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 11

Jirachi @ Leftovers
252 HP/252 Sp Def
Careful
Serene Grace
- Iron Head
- Body Slam
- Wish
- Protect

Yeah... Kyurem-B can't touch Jirachi if its not running Earth Power. Kyurem-B can't really touch jirachi, and Jirachi Iron Heads it to death.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 11

@Momentum: Quagsire doesn't really work as a counter to that set. It rarely breaks its Substitutes. Due to Substitute, you're looking at a 10HKO, which is pretty much unacceptable for countering purposes. But I guess it works.

@Chillarmy: Nice work. I overlooked Jirachi as a counter.

Too bad no one's found the best counter yet :D

646-b.png

Kyurem-B @ Choice Band
Terravolt | Adamant
EVs: 40 HP / 252 Atk / 216 Spe
-Outrage
-Dragon Claw
-Fusion Bolt
-Freeze Shock

Nobody said you couldn't use the Pokemon trying to be countered to counter it. Kyurem-B out speeds the Kyurem-B set posted, then fires back with a Dragon Claw. Damage calcs are below. It's too bad Kyurem-B counters itself.

My Kyurem-B's Dragon Claw @ Bippa's Kyurem-B = 175.5 - 207.12% (OHKO lol)
Bippa's Ice Beam @ My Kyurem-B = 29.42 - 34.66% (3HKO after SR)

Edit: Actually you have to use Dragon Claw, as Bippa's Kyurem-B can Sub stall Outrage and then it isn't a guaranteed counter. But nonetheless it does counter with Dragon Claw.

SubRoost Kyurem-B is clearly a better counter.

Kyurem-Black @ Leftovers
Trait: Teravolt
EVs: 248 HP / 56 Spd / 136 SDef / 68 Def
Careful Nature
- Roost
- Hone Claws
- Substitute
- Dragon Tail

Set up on Bippa's because Ice Beam only does 22-27% or so assuming I did my calcs right so it will sometimes fail to break the subs and 2 Ice Beams will do less than a single Roost always due to Leftovers, so it can set up all the Hone Claws it wants and kill it or phaze it out with Dragon Tail depending on how many boosts it has.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 11

^Cool, I didn't think of SubRoost when I picked out Kyurem-B as a counter. I still don't get the whole idea of it getting Roost, but nonetheless it's an impressive counter you have there.

Edit: By "it getting Roost" I meant Kyurem-B itself (pertaining to its design), not your set.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 11

Going to end this round in a few days, but I'm going to announce two quick rule changes:

You only get the "Best Counter Bonus" if your counter really is the best counter. At the beginning of each round, I calculate what the best counter is. If no one posts that best counter. no one gets the bonus.

"Best Counter Bonus" exists for both offensive and defensive counters, if both exists. This means two people can get the "Best Counter Bonus" each round.

and before anyone asks, the best counters have not been posted yet.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 11

inb4 Physically Defensive Arcanine is the best defensive counter.

Seriously Fusion Bolt only does like 16% and Arcanine fights back with Flare Blitz (not to mention it is viable in OU), but if it's true then I'll feel stupid XD.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 11

Rotom-H

name: Specially Defensive
move 1: Volt Switch
move 2: Overheat
move 3: Thunder Wave / Will-O-Wisp
move 4: Pain Split
item: Leftovers
nature: Calm
evs: 248 HP / 8 Def / 252 SpD

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 11

Good luck breaking Black Kyurem's subs reliably with that set.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 11

Hard counter:
MY BOY MAGNEZONE
Magnezone @ Choice Specs
Ability: Magnet Pull
Nature: Modest
112 HP / 252 Spa / 140 Spd
- Flash Cannon
- Volt Switch
- Thunder/Thunderbolt
- HP Fire

Resists all of Kyurem's moves while dealing sold damage with STAB Flash Cannon.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 11

This is not a hard counter. You run the risk of being 2HKOed by HP Fire and unless you're running a boosting nature, you actually won't OHKO with Flash Cannon unless Black Kyurem switched into rocks before putting up a sub.

But the fact that you may be 2HKOed (definitely 2HKOed if he crits) means you are not a hard counter, just a check.

Shedinja@choice band
adamant 252 atk
- x-scissor

LOL BEST COUNTER

But really Bippa, what is this magical counter you're thinking of? Heat Rotom is a great one but he has no chance of actually beating Black Kyurem one on one.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 11

and there's the best offensive counter.

You guys missed the best defensive counter, which was Offensive Tran, though SpD Jirachi does work just as well, so I will except Chillarmy's counter as well.

So points:
Momentum: 0
Chillarmy: 2
Yoshi: 1
Dark Void: 1
Shadow Scyther: 0
doublenikesocks: 2

Round 12

[animate]reuniclus[/animate]
Reuniclus @ Life Orb
Trait: Magic Guard
Quiet Nature
EVs: 192 HP / 64 Def / 252 SpA
IVs: 0 Spe
- Trick Room
- Psyshock
- Focus Blast
- Hidden Power Fire

Go!

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 12

Slowbro@Leftovers
252 HP 252 Def 4 SpAtk
- Light Screen
- Scald
- Slack Off
- Fire Blast

Takes a pittance from all of this Reuniclus's moves (Focus Blast is a 4HKO at best); without recovery he will eventually be worn down by Scald. Light Screen provides team support, Slack Off gives longevity.
