Counter That Pokemon! - Round 20

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 4

Actually, Stone Edge does quite a bit of damage (306-360 on a Kyurem with 405 HP), so Kyurem can't Roost stall Stone Edges, and it won't have enough HP to use a Sub. That Tyranitar is a pretty decent counter, but the only problem is that if it must resort to using Superpower, Kyurem can Roost stall it because of the Attack drop.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 4

1 Crunch will break the sub so you can Stone Edge next turn.

4Atk Tyranitar (Neutral) Crunch in Sandstorm vs 56HP/0Def Kyurem (Neutral): 29% - 35% (121 - 144 HP). Guaranteed 4HKO.

4Atk Tyranitar (Neutral) Superpower in Sandstorm vs 56HP/0Def Kyurem (Neutral): 60% - 71% (244 - 288 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.

4Atk Tyranitar (Neutral) Stone Edge in Sandstorm vs 56HP/0Def Kyurem (Neutral): 75% - 88% (306 - 360 HP). Guaranteed 2HKO.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 4

Alright, let's give out some points guys.

Dark Void gets a point.
The Yoshi gets a point.
doublenikesocks gets two points.

Round 5

Spr_5b2_642T.png

Thundurus-T @ Life Orb
Naive Nature
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 4 Atk/252 SAtk/252 Spe
-Thunder
-Hidden Power Ice
-Superpower
-Grass Knot

A fearsome sweeper in the BW2 metagame is 4 attacks Thundurus-T. Even without Nasty Plot to keep boost its special attack to obscene levels, base 145 special attack is still base 145 special attack. Even though it can cover all of its regular counters, it still is perfectly beatable.

Also, I put in a 1vsAll damage calc in the OP. You'll probably find it useful.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 5

[sprite]171[/sprite]
Item: Leftovers
Nature: Calm
EVs: 52 HP / 252 Def / 204 SpD
- Scald
- Ice Beam
- Thunderbolt
- Protect

Eat your heart out. I don't care that Lanturn is RU this is totally legit at beating Thundurus-T. The best it can muster is Superpower (31-37%) which with its negative side effects just simply won't get the job done against Lanturn. Because of its light weight, Grass Knot can be shrugged off to a 4-5hko depending on the rolls (not including Protect). Ice Beam may not ohko but it certainly does enough to drive Thundurus-T off.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 5

Yeah, Lanturn really is the best counter lol

Virizion @ Leftovers
Timid nature
EVs: 4 HP, 252 SpA, 252 Spe
- Calm Mind
- Giga Drain
- Hidden power: Ice
- Focus Blast

Virizion survives any assault from Thundurus-T and can retaliate with Hidden power for the OHKO, assuming Life Orb and Stealth Rock damage. The Calm Mind variant is chosen over Swords Dance purely so Virizion has the potential to recover HP throughout the match with Giga Drain and remain as healthy a counter as possible. You need all the HP you can get for this challenge after all, even 129 Special Defence with Thunder resistance is worn down by Thundurus-T after a couple of switch ins.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 5

Your Thundurus-T set is missing EVs, and should we assume Rain is in play because of Thunder?

Edit: @bacon: Remember that SR is not on your opponent's side of the field.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 5

Chansey @Eviolite
Trait: Natural Cure
Nature: Bold
EVs: 4 hp 252 def 252 sdef
-Seismic Toss
-Softboiled
-Toxic
-Aromatherapy

Bulky cleric Chansey. EVs to max out Eviolite gain. 2 Superpowers miss the 2HKO with Rocks damage and Chansey can Softboiled away the damage as it gets less and less until it can counterattack. Thunder does a pretty puny amount and paralysis can be worked around easily with Natural Cure and/or Aromatherapy. Seismic Toss is a 3HKO on Thundurus, so its only real hope it a crit on Superpower.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 5

Porygon2@ Eviolite
Trait; Trace
Bold nature
252 HP/184 Def/72 SpDef
~Ice Beam
~Recover
~Toxic
~Tri Attack

Traces Volt Absorb so it obviously takes Thunder like a champ. Better than like a champ, it heals itself.

Supwerpower vs 252/184 Bold Porygon2
34.76-40.64%- 3 hits to KO

and that's not including that Superpower drops your Attack stat. Ice Beam will do lots of damage, otherwise you can always toxic it to add up Life Orb + Toxic since no regenerator like Tornadus-T has. Recover off whatever damage you take in the process, because they aren't 2HKOing you even if they predict the switch-in without a crit.

Also I'm questioning Lanturn and how viable it is in OU play. It counters Thundurus, but at the cost of being setup bait for Ferrothorn, Celebi, Breloom (with or without Technician), and Keldeo, getting toxiced by anything on a Rain Stall team, most notably Gastrodon, doesn't have recovery to shrug off hazard damge, and gets outsped by everything in OU that uses Earthquake save for MAYBE Donphan, which means it loses to every single sand sweeper or dragon sweeper in the game.

EDIT: CHansey calcs yo
Superpower vs 4 HP/252 Def Bold chansey
48.29-57.01%
-1 Supwerpower vs 4 HP/252 Def Bold Chansey
32.09-38.01%

So actually, with Rocks, There is a possibility chansey gets 2HKO'd. Even a 252 HP/252 Def Bold Chansey can get 2HKO'd, although it probably won't. a 4 HP/252 Def Bold Chansey acually has a very legitamate shot at being 2HKO'd.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 5

Pride, I'm surprised you're not running Volt Switch on that Lanturn.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 5

Amoonguss @ Leftovers
Sassy
252 HP/252 Sp Def/4 Sp Att
Regenerator

- Spore
- Stun Spore
- HP Ice
- Seed Bomb

Yeah, standard Amoonguss. Unboosted HP Ice doesn't even 3HKO iirc (no damage calculators have Therian forms yet :( ), and you can Spore and HP Ice.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 5

Aw Shedinja would make a great counter if it weren't for SR >.> Anyway here I go.

[animate]135[/animate]
Jolteon @ Choice Specs
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid
-Hidden Power Ice
-Shadow Ball
-Thunderbolt
-Volt Switch

HP Ice is the only move that really matters here, since it is a guaranteed OHKO on Thundurus with a Timid Nature and Choice Specs, due to Life Orb recoil. The important thing here is that Thundurus does not OHKO it with any of its moves, so Jolteon can switch in on anything + SR, out speed and KO with HP Ice. If Thundurus uses Thunder, Jolteon gets to recover SR damage with Volt Absorb, which is also cool. You could even remove some of its Speed EVs (144 makes Jolteon hit 332, which just out speeds Thundurus-T's 331), and invest in Defense to sponge Superpower better.

Superpower on Jolteon = 65.31 - 77.12% (not a KO after SR)

HP Ice on Thundurus-T = 90.96 - 107.69% (OHKO after Life Orb recoil)

This damage calculator has BW2 updated to it.

Raikou @ Leftovers
Trait: Volt Absorb
EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe
Nature: Timid
-Calm Mind
-Thunderbolt
-Hidden Power Ice
-Shadow Ball

2 hit KO's with Hidden Power Ice (1 hit after Calm Mind). Can live 2 Superpowers. Raikou outspeeds.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 5

That works as a counter, so I'll give you a point.

But in the future, please don't use unreleased hidden abilities. This applies for everyone.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 5

Dark Void said:
Scumbag Marriland calculator not having a Life Orb option.

Life Orb multiplies the damage by 30% so multiply the damage you get by 1.3 and you'll have your answer.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 5

Yeah, I know that. I forgot to add it to the end of my calculations once, and this is what I get. :/

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 5

Yoshi, why are you running Modest on Jolteon?. Getting outsped by Dugtrio, Starmie, Tornadus-T, Alakazam, etc. is not worth a boost in power. You still OHKO Thundurus after LO damage with Timid.

RE: Counter That Pokemon! - Round 5

That's true. I forgot about Life Orb recoil, I think. I'll change it to Timid, though it doesn't really matter since we're only trying to counter the Pokemon listed.
