Donphan - Could it do well in a post-DE format?

Has anyone heard of DMRH? Donphan/Mewtwo EX/Rocky Helmet, an amazing deck that, really, should be talked about more. Donphan, obviously the Zekeels troller, can withstand a Strong Volt from Zekrom EX, and still hit back, and with the Rocky Helmet, it makes it easier to KO Tornadus, even with the resistance. The enemy of this deck is Mewtwo EX, thus the M of this deck, Mewtwo EX wars save this deck really. And, yes under normal circumstances, you wouldn't use Heavy Impact, but with this deck, you have the time, and trust me, it pays off. It's a very unorthodox deck, but it won states a few times.

With the new addition of Raikou and Dark types, Donphan will see a lot of play before rotated.

As for Terrakion vs. Donphan, they each have their respective ups and downs. Donphan being a stage one is the only bad thing about him. Terrakion may be a basic, but it takes three turns to do any relevant damage, unless they manage to OHKO Terrakion on their first turn (provided you went first and have a benched Terrakion with an energy attached and an energy in hand.) and even then, on turn three, Donphan can do the same 90 damage, and is still a stronger tank. The ONLY reason Terrakion is better is because he's a basic, that's it.

Donphan actually does decently against Mewtwo. If they don't manage to get 6 energy onto Mewtwo, Donphan actually wins the prize trade. However, note that Terrakion's 30 turn 2 can be relevant as it OHKOs Tynamo, babies, Solosis, etc. and that Landorus can hit 80 damage turn 2, then drop an Exp. Share on a benched Terrakion and you can hit for an easy 80-90 damage for the rest of the game, whereas Donphan rarely makes it past 60. This makes Terrakion much better against random decks that aren't weak to fighting such as CMT or rogues, or even just non-Lightning techs in ZekEels.

And Donphan turn two can OHKO Thunderus, Eels, Zekrom with a Plus Power, Celebi, and most basics that aren't legendary.

Landorus relies on too much to do the turn two 80 damage, you need a Juniper (energy in hand) or a Sage's (energy one of the five) and you have to have an energy on Landy. And even then, Landorus has the same matchup as Terrakion, Zekrom EX OHKO's it, unlike Donphan.

As for Terrakion being better than DMRH at battling CMT, I gotta know what lists because I don't see
how that's possible at all. With the tech'd Eels decks, , Virizion EP has started appearing to face Terrakion, and Zeels is starting to win more against Tetra-kion, with or without Landorus, but DMRH, Zeels doesn't have a counter, and CMT, unlike Terrakion, DMRH can lead the prize difference, and stay ahead, where as Terrakion must catch up, and usually has trouble coming back.

Mewtwo EX should only be in the tidal of the deck if he is NEEDED for the deck to work (i.e. CMT, Gardevoir/Mewtwo). That's like having the tidal to a deck be Durant/Junk Arm. Or Reshiram/Emboar/Cleffa (I know it's called Reshiboar, but it's just to get the point across).

It is needed, it deals with Mewtwo wars and CMT, or anything else with fighting resistance, and it help with Terrakion matchups.

Well there are like 5-10 other decks that need it for Mewtwo wars as well, and it's just good in every deck that does damage. Zekrom/Eelektrik, Reshiphlosion, Magnezone/Eelektrik, that new Tornadus EX deck, everything except for Durant and Terrakion, and Darkrai/Zoroark I guess doesn't really need it either.

Well in donphan mewtwo, one of its main strategies is to counter the two most popular decks in the format, zekeels and CMT, so mewtwo is a main attacker. So ideally there would be more mewtwo in that deck than in others that just run it as a tech. Durant also uses it since in many decks they would use mewtwo to KO the durants. Terrakion Based decks (unless it's straight terrakion) such as terrakion/landorus and Troll also use it because they also counter zekeels and mewtwo.

I didn't really think about it that way. I had just herd of the deck on this thread today, so I wasn't really clear it's strategy. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Now I know. And knowing is half the battle ;)

Ji-Ra-Chi!

P.S. I was just saying that Durant and Terrakion didn't NEED Mewtwo. Unlike the others I had mentioned.

It just occurred to me, that if you run Rocky Helmet in Speed Donphan, you really don't need Mewtwo EX. Attach Rocky Helmet, attack for 60. They attack you, now they have 80. You hit them with a pluspower, they have 150. They KO that Donphan, they lose the Mewtwo EX. They don't KO the Donphan, they lose it next turn.

Yes, but speed Donphan Has a majorly hard time against CMT. And I know the Catcher Arguement, but even then, they will still out speed you with a average setup.

Rikko145, you do realize that if they attach an Eviolite to their Mewtwo your strategy won't work. If they use a Eviolite it will be easy to outspeed you, since you'll have a really hard time KO'ing them. 40 per turn even with Rocky Helmet giving more 20 isn't good.

I'll 3HKO them if they have an Eviolite, and they'll 2HKO me unless they can manage to get 6 energies on a Mewtwo EX. But by that time It'll be too late to alter the prize exchange rate. I get outsped, but due to the EX rule I keep up in prizes. Not to mention that 60 damage is perfect for taking Celebi KO's.

It has an advantage in that it has resistance to lightning, meaning it can't be OHKO'ed by Zekrom Plus Power. However, I don't think this really warrants playing it over Terrakion since it is a Stage 1. The one good thing about Donphan is that you don't lose if you can't hit EXP Shares, but it's usually not too much of a problem for Terrakion.

Donphan Positive:
1. Built in Eviolite.
2. One energy for a good amount of damage.
3. Resistnce to Lighting Types.
4. Strong against Lightning types.
5. Decent HP.
6. Easily search able.
7. Takes a bit to be KO'd by most heavy hitters.

Donphan Negative:
1. Stage 1.

Terrakion Positive:
1. Basic.
2. Easily searchable
3. Strong to Lightning

Terrakion Negative:
1. Takes a bit to do major damage.
2. Relies on energy accelarting Tools.
3. Easily KO'd by a lot of the heavy hitters.
4. No Lightning resistance.
