so add some lighter colors there. and on the opposite add darker colors to make shadowy effects
Okay, I only tried using dodge/burn, and I stunk. I think for light colors, lower the brush opacity, then paint over spots.

@electromaniac: the shadow under him (on the "ground") is good. but leave out the one directly behind him. that just lets everyone see that it IS 2d. get what i am saying? but the other shadow helps a lot
but i dont know... it may seem worse that way...
but none of that is a MAJOR problem

I updated one last time because I was unhappy with the outline. Yours looks interesting Safari, your wood pokemon becomes gold when it's shiny! I put a lotus leaf on its back because I was following the hindu theme and it seemed pretty reasonable. I think mine's a bit generic for a starter and lack originality.

I would digitally colour them to make them look better, but I'm going on holiday Sunday, and I wont be back 'til after the competition's final day.
Oh well.. I'll have to enter them as they are.

Here's my stage one to the ugly bird thing... I'm thinking about redoing it... compared to the Stage 3 it seems like they were made using two different art styles... but this is the general idea of it. Right now I have to do the stage two which I feel is the most important since it basically sets the tempo of the whole starter. Right now I like how my "Creature" is going from a quadruped Pokémon to a biped (some how it can walk on two feet, believe it or not). Right now I have some Ideas of names...
For the Stage 3... maybe Cassulk (Cas-sulk (Cassowary + Bulk))- Or Cassacre... (Cassowary + Massacre)
A cassowary is a Flightless bird, and surprisingly (I didn't plan this) has a fin like structure on it's head. And bulk is bulk :F.

and yes i have. it's interesting, reminds me of a pumkin with car grills and for your next evo try something like a pumkin thats molding over and has feet made of straw yet no arms. and your last one, try something along the lines of a scarecrow, tied together by straw with arms made of straw, keep the head style though. makes sure to make it look evil, but don't overdo it. hope i helped some.
