RE: Writer's Lounge

That depends on the major battle. If you mean by important, but simple, then one chapter is fine. If you mean an EPIC battle that is among many participants, then there's no way it can be fit in a single chapter.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Since I cleaned out my hard drive and restored my laptop to factory settings, I tested some new text editing software. If anyone wants to try something new, I'd recommend FocusWriter; it's simple, yet great. The only flaw I'd like to point out is the weird keyboard shortcuts it has.

...it lets you put beautiful pictures behind it as you write? And does it lag at all? I feel like I want this...

Yup. You have the make the "foreground" color transparent (the level of transparency is up to you; you could even just have text right on the picture with no rectangle to hold the words). There's no lag, as the program is relatively lightweight and can edit plain texts and rich text formats (.doc, .docx, .odf, doesn't work well on this at all).

Not trying to advertise, but I just want people to get out and look for a text editor they're comfortable with; it makes a huge difference to me.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Isn't that just like a custom watermark in any word processor?

... no?

What do you mean by a custom watermark? I don't see anything intended to be a watermark.

Darn. I usually save my Word files in .doc because the file size is smaller. Then again, .rtf is actually not that much of a difference.
But I already have Office 2003 and since I resist change like a Republican I probably won't switch over. Looks beautiful, though.

RE: Writer's Lounge

I basically exclusively use OpenOffice for personal writing and Word 2007 for professional/college writing, and I don't have much desire to change those.

of course, if it's as light on the CPU as you say, it might be a good replacement for OOo.

RE: Writer's Lounge

NEW TOPIC: Does anyone else listen to music when working on their fanfics? I do and actually find it nice and soothing.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Sometimes I do, but since listening to music slows or even destroys my train of thought, I try not to. I've been doing it lately, though. Maybe listening to BlazBlue/Guilty Gear gets me in the mood for writing. (Yeah, that's pretty much 80% of what I listen to now.)

RE: Writer's Lounge

Nice, lately, I've been wanting to work on my fanfic but I don't know how to get motivated to. :/

RE: Writer's Lounge

I listen to music for ideas, but for actually writing I listen to classical (usually Holst) or nothing at all.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Zenith listens to classical music. This is news to me.

I got back into writing after realizing that:
- I burned myself from writing too quickly
- I invested too much into... other things.

Another thing about writing is that it's not always enjoyable; there are times where you're at a place that you would love to skip through, but it's required as part of the story. The best way through that is translate your imagination of that scene and leave it at its poorest. Don't fix it until you feel better about writing. That way, you'll be more inclined to write about the less favorite parts of the story.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Well, since I have a fancy for Sonic games, I listen to whatever Sonic zone that goes with wherever/whenever the action is taking place.
It's...really great listening to Vengeance is Mine while writing about a dark city.

I try to make scenes like this more enjoyable. I feel odd because in some cases, if I don't even want to write it then why would someone want to read it.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Hmm, but sometimes the harder I try and push myself to write, the more my interest in both writing and the story seem to fade away.

That's exactly what I said not to do. Just fill out the worst parts without regard of quality till you get to a section you enjoy. Work on the sections of concern when you're in a mood to write.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Hi guys I'm back again with another character question :)

I'm beginning to write an action and adventure kinda thing, and I am just wondering (Again this isn't me at ALL!) how does someone who is scared of something over come it... (For example jumping off a cliff into the water?)

Thanks guys :)

RE: Writer's Lounge

Mild exposure to said fear with no consequence is a common psychological treatment nowadays.
