RE: Writer's Lounge

Yeah, but jumping off a cliff is an odd example, but I'm now guessing you're talking about a short-term fear [like afraid to go on roller coaster], not life-long phobia.

by the way, your character probably wouldn't survive the landing, depending on how high the cliff is

RE: Writer's Lounge

When I'm writing, I occasionally use the aspect of need as a way for the character to overcome it.

RE: Writer's Lounge

But need is kinda cliche (You should know me i will NEVER! be cliche/normal)

Well, it's kinda a misadventure, and they get stuck under a waterfall, but back at home the fearless one jumps off them all the time, while the newer kid (Da scardy pants :p) doesn't even go near the waterfalls.

@keyblade
Yes Short-Term fear is what I was refering too. I quit being fearful of life like 6 years ago

@ZY
You always seem to confuse me :)

Mild exposure to said fear with no consequence is a common psychological treatment nowadays.

What Zyflair meant is that the character is forced to be exposed to their fear of ______ and after a while, they discover it was nothing to be afraid about.

RE: Writer's Lounge

I... did say so. "Mild exposure" means little contact or light experience, "No consequence" means nothing happens from the experience.

RE: Writer's Lounge

I didn't peace them together very well (I've had a migrane, and I could hardly talk :/)

Well, thanks guys...

RE: Writer's Lounge

Question. Dark G and MrGatr's stories have an opening section that tells rating, genre, etc.
Is that a new rule, or just a thing they made up?

RE: Writer's Lounge

It's just something they wanted to do. It is not required by any means - although authors are required to tell the rating at the start, however.

That would be my fault. I started doing it as a formality/introduction some years ago, and now they copycatted me.

RE: Writer's Lounge

It's not a fault, I think it's pretty neat. I may even do it when I'm done with mapping out you-know-what.

RE: Writer's Lounge

It's a good way to mark something for readers to know if the story is up their alley.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Hm, I'm not sure if this applies to everyone but do all of you have at least a limit of words you attempt to reach everyday?

RE: Writer's Lounge

100 words a day.

It's awfully low, but doable and avoids that summer hiatus my fanfic suffered.

RE: Writer's Lounge

One page per day on Microsoft. Unfortunately it's only saving stories that I can't post here for reasons.

I write sporadically and as such I have no daily writing goal.

The same. I usually try to complete a few pages in one setting whenever I write. I'm really a fast writer, but I get side-tracked easily.

RE: Writer's Lounge

^This, this and this.

I get distracted way too easily. For instance, I would go on YouTube to play some Pokemon Reorchestrated, but find this new and cool Halo 4 video and get sidetracked on that instead. Sad stuff, that is.

^Same here. I only write when I'm inspired to do so + when I have time, and at no other point.

How do you guys even go about making a title for a story?

My fanfic titles generally tend to be only one word long, and thus I try to find a single word that could sum up the whole point, or even the climax, of the story. It's the same way I name my chapters - one word long, but expresses the point or mood of the chapter.

It's also a way I can challenge myself to never repeat any chapter title at any time. I'm already up to...what, 63? titles in all, just to keep things interesting. And there are a lot more words in the English language than 63, so I'll have many more ideas - the trick is just not repeating any.
