RE: Writer's Lounge

I scribble words on a piece of paper; it becomes the title of the fic I write.

RE: Writer's Lounge

my title comes to me as I'm writing the piece. sometimes it's instant while I'm in the planning stages; other times I don't come up with a title until several thousand words in.

^Same here. I only write when I'm inspired to do so + when I have time, and at no other point.

My fanfic titles generally tend to be only one word long, and thus I try to find a single word that could sum up the whole point, or even the climax, of the story. It's the same way I name my chapters - one word long, but expresses the point or mood of the chapter.

It's also a way I can challenge myself to never repeat any chapter title at any time. I'm already up to...what, 63? titles in all, just to keep things interesting. And there are a lot more words in the English language than 63, so I'll have many more ideas - the trick is just not repeating any.

One of my current fanfic titles is incredibly long. (incredibly being five words.) The prequel (i guess) to it is fairly long too. But I like long and elegant titles so whatever. Simplicity is also elegant as well. So whatever.

Lol, there's no counting the number of random chapters of various things randomly written on my iPod. I use it a lot for jotting down ideas and starting stories. (seriously, the amout of Avengers/Pokemon/Everything fanfics is totally ridiculous. AND WHAT THE HECK IS THE STRIKE CODE?!) and there's also Wattpad. Wattpad gives me a lot of good ideas from reading other people's fanfics and such.

Speaking of which, you should all check out Wattpad. It's an app on like, everything, where people basically post fanfics and stories/novels that they've written. But like the internet itself, it's chock full of grammatically incorrect and just plain BAD stories. Probably not as much as say the internet in general, because you don't have to do too much searching for good stories and fanfics. I was actually impressed by the amount of well written stories. Anyway, it's fun for fanfic writers or just writers in general to hang out, criticize and read.

Quick question for y'all.
Do you use any kind of template or worksheet to design or create your characters? I know there's stuff out there for character development and like...just...forms for making characters. (I just keep them all in my head and draw them all constantly.)

RE: Writer's Lounge

I'm honestly terrible with characters, so this is probably terrible advice. When designing characters, I first make their significance in the story, and then develop their relation with the other characters.

I have no idea how to write out how they develop. They just... change? XD

RE: Writer's Lounge

No. Character development is something you need to figure out on your own. Guides really don't help you with this matter, so a lot of times I've ended up winging it.

RE: Writer's Lounge

I was thinking about making Mewtwo's Revenge a monthly or bimonthly (Twice per month) chapter release. What do you guys think about this?

RE: Writer's Lounge

If you think about it, bimonthy means you have to write 100+ words every day. If you can manage your motivation well, it's a doable task. I did the first few chapters of Disbelief on a weekly basis, so it's definitely possible.

On a completely different note, I'd like to note that I'm interested in tutoring someone on how to write. I am by no means an excellent writer, but I am capable of teaching basic forms of writing. Private messaging me to notify interest will suffice.

I usually don't post more than a chapter per month, but whatever you have the time and motivation for is alright.

Contributors and mods, yes. But I try to monitor how many I get, which is why I try not to offer proofreading to often.

I know that too. I love my unlimited inbox :D
Seriously though, who would you even consider tutoring? Would it be someone who's legitimately wanting to improve or just someone who's secretly starving for attention?

...actually, don't answer that.

Yeah... I was thinking that monthly might be a good idea.

Thank you for the advice.

Like I said, it depends on how time you have to dedicate to writing, more than it does how much you can actually write within a certain time-frame.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Honestly, everytime you get an idea for what should happen next, or you picture what is gonna happen next (you get the point right?) you should start writing it down. Whether it be on paper, or typed up, it doesn't matter. For example, I thought out a whole chapter a few nights ago, wrote it down, and now it becomes an actual chapter.

Setting goals, and time frames is good, but it can limit your mind, making it think that you HAVE to wait till then.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Hello there. Thats right. CJ's back and I have an awesome fanfic called Project Mew- Secret of Mewthree. I've been working on it a lot and feel like its ready. I'll post it very soon.

RE: Writer's Lounge

How would it effect you if you found out something important to you [like a person or a place] was fake* all the time?
*fake meaning "shouldn't have existed" or a copy of something real.

RE: Writer's Lounge

Mmm, I've been wondering something lately. Would the concept of characters ungoing a "gender swap" be too much for what's supposed to be a kid-friendly fanfic? I've been itching to write an MLP short where Twilight Sparkle casts a spell on herself and her assistant Spike that makes them either swap bodies or change genders for a day (the latter probably, since body swap fics are easy to turn into Freaky Friday parody). I've seen similar stuff done in cartoons like in an episode of The Fairly Odd Parents, where the main character Timmy was turned into a girl by his fairy godmother Wanda after he made some wisecracks to her about girls. I was thinking about doing something similar using Spike but wasn't sure how it would go over, given that cross-gender can be kind of taboo.

As you probably can assume, that kind of concept has to undergo a lot of airbrushing before it can be considered presentable. (I've seen the episode of FOP in question.) I'd advise that, if you decide to go through with it, you'll probably need to airbrush and/or tone it down significantly, but doing so without marring the whole point of the thing can be...well, either tricky or impossible.

I'd recommend you write out a rough-draft first of what you plan to do, then temper it if necessary to present to your targeted audience. If you find that it couldn't convey as much meaning as you had intended (after tempering), scrap it.

...I hope that made sense and didn't sound long-winded.
