I agree...owning n00bs is awfully fun. But, you have to tell them how to improve their deck. NO EXCEPTIONS.

Thank you.

People like you sicken and disgust me. It's a FREAKING game. You shouldn't be ripping people off just to be good at it. I joined because I had FUN. And most of my decks suck, but a lot of the good players in my area recognize me as a good player. You people who use decks because they do well instead of doing what works for you are just plain revolting, IMO. Roges>Archetypes

Oh, and not helping n00bs unless you get paid? Fail.

just about everyone here makes the claims of pokemon being satanic seem true. all people could think about is how much they want what the other person has and what they could do to take it away . it's sad, just nothing but non stop excuses for inappropriate behavior. why can't people stop being greedy and be happy for someone else having something good ?

.... seriously , as long as You tell them and they still don't care , then consider it a trade. Don't do something you wouldn't want done to you, it only encourages bad behavior In others.

I don't go out searching for little kids to rip unlike some of you.

If anything, I really just chill at a table, and most of the time, those kids come to me asking to look at my binder. I oblige. They find cards they want, and I find cards I need. Really I hardly look at value. I look at playability. I traded an RH Claydol for a Rhyperior Lv. X because I wanted to make a deck. But then again, if you ask a kid "What do you want for your Claydol?" and he goes "How about your SW Mothim?".. can you really turn that down? I've gotten offers like that, and I admit I take it sometimes, but other times I say "You can choose something else, that's somewhat unfair on your part.."

I guess I'm just a nice guy like that.

I once ripped off someone (I was a noob back then) I traded his charizard (base) for my kauna (base).
after that, I traded it back because I realized I ripped him off, I really didn't knew the values back then.

oh, and I only rip oof guys mentally older then me.
(that means I don't rip off lou or SA667).

Could I ask you , where are my cards. I sent you 2 claydols , 2 magneton , and 4 magnemite. I knew I could probably get something better for them but yet traded all those for 2 Ex's that most wouln't even care about. I Thought I was Doing you a favor or something and it was my first online trade so I wanted to trust you. that was 3 months ago and I still haven't recieved anything. I did everything to make sure those cards arrived and even asked you ocasionally if you had recieved them , but You didn't even ask if I got mine.... How are people supposed to trust others if everyone is only after ripping you off.

i NEVER recieved your cards, i thought you where ripping me off.
i never sent out my cards, because i didn't recieve yours, seriousley, get your facts straight.

I sent them.... why did you say you got them then ? you even gave me a positive ref and told me everything was "well packaged". why would you do that if you did't recieve anything? YOU should get your facts straight. seriously, click on the link bellow. REMEBER IF YOU MODIFY IT RIGHT NOW IT WOULD SAY , SO THINK BEFORE YOUR ACTIONS , IT WILL ONLY PROVE YOUR GUILT.

This might be one of the most amusing threads I've ever seen in my pokemon forum career.

However, some of you people should be ashamed of yourselves.

I cant say that I've never agreed to a trade that was highly in my favor. I've done my fair share of "rip off" trades you might say. But to refer to these people that you take advantage of as "scrubs", "dumb", etc. is just plain rude and it makes me kinda sick to even know that someone would start a thread like this.

This thread should be locked. What if there are young kids reading this? What kind of a message are we sending here?

It's pokemon , so the odds of kids reading this are pretty high. of course , not all kids are very well oriented with using the internet so it's probably more teenagers.... it might be a crazy topic, but at the same time a very valuable one. If some one reads this and dosen't take a lesson away from this , then I dont know whats happening.

Sounds like someone needs to go back to playing Yugioh.

You all who support this are pathetic. Everyone started out with little to no knowledge of the game. No one was just born with the brain capacity or knowledge to play it. It's called practice and getting better through learning. I've seen nicer people in Yugioh tournaments. What happened to Spirit of the Game? This game isn't all about winning or losing, it's about the fun of the game, and you guys ripping off and tricking these little kids is just pathetic. I'm pretty sure if any of you had children and they got ripped off, you'd be pretty upset at the person who did it. You guys are no better. I don't care if "they have to learn sometime" or if they "deserve it for making the offers". It's not right.

You need to either decline or help them understand it's unfair. Don't let the poor children fall to your whim over a stupid piece of holographic paper...You all should be ashamed of yourself. Aren't you supposed to help the younger, foolish players learn right from wrong and help them get better? If you rip them off and they realize it, they're going to think ripping other people off is okay, and they'll start to do it. You guys are bad influences. If you want to rip people off and laugh at the pathetic noobs, go play Yugioh, because this game is supposed to be for the fun of it, not 100% Competition.

I'll end this on a question: Why the heck hasn't this thread been closed? It's nothing we need on here. It's shameful...

This does not reflect on the more experienced players very well, and creates an unfair image that all of the veteran are out to win tournaments through whatever means necessary.

When it comes to trades, my rule is that if both members of the trade are happy, then the trade is good. However...

...the important difference is that both parties are knowledgeable about the game. This is not the case here. Trading to get good cards from newer players, with the intention of deceiving the other player for one's own gain, does not benefit the game. Why?

Newer players are an important part of the TCG community.

One would argue that the more experienced players are more important than the newer players. I would actually argue differently, because in order for the tournament environment to expand, and at a bare minimum, continue to function, newer players must continue to enter the game. Many veteran players will eventually leave as priorities change in their lives (college, work, raising a family, etc). Newer players are learning the game for the first time, and will eventually play a bigger part in the tournament environment. While many people play to win a tournaments, people also play to have fun. By having more people to play against and share experiences with, tournaments are more fun to attend.

When we first learned how to play competitively, we got help from others. As is such, I believe that it is our role to give back to community by helping the newer players out, whether it is by judging, running a league, and / or helping new players learn how to play. New players, especially younger players, learn from what the more experienced players do.

If the more experienced players are ripping off the newer players, then some of the newer players learn that ripping off is acceptable in the tournament environment, because if one person can rip others off, then it means everyone else can, which would ultimately lead to a major deterioration of the Spirit of the Game. The others are hurt by the process, and may leave the tournament environment instead, because it is not welcoming.

The term "n00b" refers to newer players, but in a condescending way. We should avoid using this language towards players who are enthusiastic about learning how to play and becoming a part of the community. Just because someone isn't familiar with competitive strategy doesn't mean that the newer players are inferior to everyone else. As I said before, the newer players make up an important part of the TCG community, and for the reasons described above, we should not look down on them.

So please, when you trade with a younger or newer player, please help them out by explaining what is fair and what cards have value behind it, in a way that is not condescending. The other person will likely appreciate your kindness. The game is about building connections between players, not souring them.

I am going to keep this thread open, because it has discussion value behind it. However, if the thread gets ugly, it will be locked. While this thread is discussing a serious issue, please be tactful about it.

In my opinion.
It is better for you guys who read this thread to not rip little kids off. This however does not mean there are no rippers. Sometimes its good that kids learn how its felt being ripped, so that they don't make a same mistake again, not just in trades but also in other activities like business when they grow up. When you don't fall you don't learn to rise.

I only do it if someone ticks me off or if they have some cards that I need and they may damage.

Maybe so. But I am personally disgusted when I see a 16 year old give a reverse foil Pikachu and Raichu in exchange for a Machamp LVX and a Claydol to a 6 year old.
I think this thread should be locked.

They should pay you? LOL you sound like such a nubb right now. Your claim is not vaild. What have you won? I've never heard of you before. I doubt you've won anything in a major tourny. Come to RI/MA/NY/NH states and see if you even get a winning record. I bet your "team" is a load of crap and I'm calling all of you out to come to any of those states and try to win. You won't. Theres 2 types of noobs: The friendly ones who you love to play against even if they aren't that great (pokeparents and younger kids are the most obvious and consistant cases) and then theres noobs like you, who like to think they're good but are just jerks from yugioh. I assume your from yugioh because of your manner of playin this game and trying to further yourself at it. There was an EXCELLENT thread on the gym about the best of the best. Nowhere did it say ripping people off. NOWHERE. The best players in this game don't do that crap. In fact, its usually the opposite. Most good players give away cards, deck lists, game strategies, and pokemon stuff they win (hats, mats, etc.) to noobs because it is how you better the player, better the game, keep the game base large, and better yourself. I think you really need to try some of this or else I wonder how far you'll actually get in life.
