Heart Gold/Soul Silver set blues?

I agree with you 100% Gecko. I sincerely dislike this expansion and I really don't think that they gave Platinum (I.M.O the greatest set block yet, enough time). Attacks without sideeffects like Great Meganiums make me wince from lack of strategy. I enjoy the intense strategy that this generation has to offer. No, I'm not talking about Blaziken Fb or Macheap. But think about some of the great cards like Palkia G? Flygon? Gengar? the fossils from AA? Salamence? Gallade 4? These decks really take skill to play, rather than the style that everything has to do with who has the most energies and can do the most damage.

^ And all these SP pokemon have their own different strategies, and they all make it more interesting to play with evoulution cards as well as basic and SP. And the thing i don't like most, is the fact that the set practically forces each player to play with "Great" pokemon, which i don't think are all that "great" anyway :(. How rare are the great pokemon anyway? The only thing i like about them is that they are evolution cards, but i hope that this doesn't mean there won't be any "Great" pokemon that are Basic.

I guess we just have to hope that the next HG/SS set will brighten things up.

I take it back, the HG/SS set is pretty cool.

So many of the cards are BROKEN!!! Such good effects OR high damage for such little energy.

The ampharos for example, 1 energy for 30 damage AND attach 2 energy to a pokemon.

Imho the game is better as rock paper scissors, not rock paper donk

I prefer slow strategy over rush beatdown

Couldn't have said it better. Has anyone ever thought about when Platinum came out, and everyone complained about THAT? Why don't we wait to see what happens before saying anything? :/

hey the power down isnt THAT apparetn Like crobats 40 a turn poison or the forty per heads on eggy. Also the great pokes are a little broken because if you get 4 great donphans out its free 60s which not even kingdra can do.

It seems like a new set of cards (DP, PT, LG) Come out right before states. People are bashing HGSS< without even seeing it.

Starmie
Ho-oh
Lugia
Donphan
Blissey
Feraligator
Ursuring
Goods
Energies
Unown
Slowking (IF the great comes to the set)
Ampharos+ Discarding opponents energy support

And many more are useful cards. It's nothing that will completely take over the meta, but it's still a great set.

The Great Pokemon aren't that great? Think before you speak:

Great Ampharos
---------------
Can stack! And, you can tech in an Ampharos PT with this to shatter the whole format. Ampharos SW also as a tech if you want. And what are these Ampharos compatible with? DCE! And...Mareep can charge themselves, as well as Flaffy, as well as Ampharos HGSS! With Sunnyshore Gym you have no weakness and you get past resistance's. Hippowdon Lv.X an obvious combo. By-by Feraligatr and Gyrados.

Great Feraligatr
---------------
I'm glad you didn't bash him. He almost made LBS come back! With Unown RETURN and Blissy he can remove all damage counters from himself. And Croconaw MT is gold with this.

Great Donphan
---------------
With Focus Band, he's even more a beast. 140HP stage 1 that can do 80 for 1? + his PokeBody which reduces 20? I'll pretend you never said what you said.

Great Blissy
---------------
Great with Pokemon who only use one energy to attack, or with Great Gatr and Great Meganium. He isn't my favorite though due to Power Spray, bench space (Dusknoir), horrible back-up attacker, and the biggest fear of mine, Pokemon Reversal or Luxray.

Great Meganium
---------------
Meganium is more powerful then you think. With Shaymin, he's at 190HP. With Blissy, you get to remove all that without Unown RETURN! And, if hes gonna die, transfer the energy back to the bench with Leaf Trans.

Great Crobat
--------------
For 1 energy, he can do 150 in total at the beginning of your opponents 2nd turn of poisoning. Unown G will bypass but I've got away around this. Weezing GE and Toxicroak make him more a beast, Dugtrio if you don't want them retreating.

Great Urserang
-------------
This is the only one that sucks, 90 for three energy when Mightyena and Gyrados can do 90 for nothing? He's only good if you DCE, then DCE t2 to get 120 damage going. But if you manage to knock him out, there goes hafe his energy acceleration. Then he's kinda toast.

See what I mean? Lugia won't be bad next format if they bring back LBS, and Ho-Oh Legend rocks with Weavile SW and Darkrai MD. Start with Darkrai MD and grab a DCE. Next turn level up, switch to weavile and charge. Once he gets going he's hard to beat. I think you just need to consider the cards these ones combo with, because without the others there horrible. With the others they can dominate,

*attaches Memory Berry to Ursaring*

80 for 1 > 90 for 3 even though Ursaring does miss out on possible Expert Belt pwnage. xD

DP came out in May, after States/Regs.

Do you guys know when they'll rotate the sets before Platinum? Its something that's been worrying me for a while

Well the Diamond/Pearl sets from our current format won't rotate out until next year in August after Worlds 2010. Then when the Modified format rotates next year after August the new format will be Platinum-On.

Speaking of Platinum-On it seems like it'll be quite an interesting format especially since HGSS is getting a boost from the Platinum sets, I see Golem becoming an archetype possibly, maybe like was mentioned earlier DonQueen (Donphan/Nidoqueen)...

I was somewhat disappointed when I saw the spoilers for HGSS, some of the new Trainers (Goods) and Supporters seemed kinda lackluster except for Pokemon Reversal which I think has potential in Platinum-On especially DP-On which is still our current format right now.

If you ask me it seems like most of the sets from Diamond/Pearl and Platinum were made and designed by Japanese Magic: The Gathering players, HGSS seems to try to get back to basics while trying to water down the supposed power creep from our current format.

I noticed that the x2 weakness is back for ALL cards in that set.

But yes, I LOVE teh new Ampharos Great. Have like 2 out and your placing 20 damage on pokemon when they play and energy.
And yes, add in one of the "Damage Bind" ones too.

In a lot of ways, Ampharos will be a great spread deck. Throw in a spiritomb and the Gengar from (AoA) Ect.

Yeah, the Weakness won't be an issue come August because if the format is PL-on, they'll all have the x2 Weakness except for some things non-SP in the Platinum sets. Not that bad...

dmaster out.
