tbh, I never liked 2Pac that much. I appreciate him and respect him, and I don't, like, hate his music or anything, I just think he sounds like a typical early 90s rapper.

I'm actually not a Tupac fan either. I just don't say it. The only material from the 90s I listened to are Raekwon's OBFCL, GZA's Liquid Swords, Nas's Illmatic, Jay Z's Reasonable Doubt, Eminem's Slim Shady LP, and A Tribe Called Quest.

Has anybody here heard of Intuition? He's a YouTube rapper, with the same group as Dumbfoundead. He's most well known for his albums "I Ruined These Songs for You" and "I Ruined These Songs for you, Too," where he takes his favorite music and writes a verse for himself. It's interesting because it creates a lox of cross-genre songs.

Good to see this thread. I was trying to find it earlier. Rap is the music of legends. I can't get enough of the stuff.
I like Tinie Tempah, Tinchy Stryder (although he's really drifting away), Professor Green, Kanye West, Wretch 32, Eminem, Dr Dre and the Black Eyed Peas if you count them as rappers. Because they can all rap except for Fergie.

I'm sorry, I do not see the appeal of Drake. He has a really terrible, whiny voice. Lil Wayne has a pretty awful voice (though you get used to it), but I tolerate him for how great his lyrics are. Drake doesn't have that. So...
I feel like most Weezy fans don't like him for the "right" reasons. I mean, I like him because he has some relatively good beats with good samples ("Six Foot, Seven Foot," "Dontgetit") and his lyrics are a lot more clever than Wayne haters give him credit for. But most people I know that like him like him because his songs feature a lot of bass and are loud. I just think people don't appreciate Lil Wayne for being clever. They appreciate him for being loud.

I was on Drake as soon as he came out with Room for Improvement in 2006. His first two mix tape initially showed a lot of talent for rapping. Lyrics wise he was actually very clever. Listen to his verse on "Stunt Hard" and his "Swagga Like Us" Freestyle and you'll see. Then he releases So Far Gone in which he drops his lyrical abilities for Kanye's 808 sound. At that point, which is where most became fans, they liked him because of the story his sound gave like "Successful" and "I Can Take Your Girl". For his album Thank Me Later he stayed mostly with an 808 sound but delivered with his initial deliveries.
So why do people like Drake? Truthfully it's just the way his music sounds, because he ditched what his initial followers had known him far in 2009.

Rapping is very interesting to me. I don't listen to a lot of the stuff, simply because the rhythm doesn't suit me most of the time. Even so, I still have my personal favorites (Eminem, Kanye, Jay-Z, Wax, Lupe Fiasco). But I still think they are very talented people. Rapping is very different from other types of music because of how different and unique each song/artist can be, and I find that very admirable. It's what inspires a lot of young artists in today's culture to pursue their dreams in music, and I have a lot of respect for that, even though messages in the songs can be interpreted as bad/inappropriate. I strongly agree with 6-D on how the songs should tell a story, right on. And as for the flame war, I see you guys bashing on SA because he dislikes rap, yet when a certain group or artist that resembles pop/rap is brought up, you call it a joke. Tsk. Opinions will be opinions.

I agree with everything said in that post. I think that the main way to identify if someone's a proper grime artist or not is if they're referred to as a 'rapper' r a 'grime artist'. Grime artists tend to be better in my opinion. Here is a definition of grime.
Also, have you uys heard of Maverick Sabre? He's actually pretty good.
You can find some of his stuff here, here and here. In my opinion, he's the best Irish artist around.

Also, DEV is great, and somehow I missed her out of my last post. I'm not going to link to her, because she's significantly more rude than Sabre in most cases, but her work is very good. Especially Bass Down Low.
I don't listen to much rap but some of my favorites are MF DOOM, Nas, Mos Def, Cee Lo Green, Dr. Dre, and sometimes Jay-Z.
I've never heard of someone not listening to much rap but have MF Doom, Mos Def, and Nas as their favorites.

Even though it's not my favorite type of music, Rap is still great to listen to. My favorite artists are probably Lupe Fiasco, Eminem, Lil Wayne, Tinie Tempah, and Jay-Z. My favorite songs are The Show Goes On, Most of Eminem's songs, and a few others. For Lil Wayne, I usually just listen to songs he features in like Down, Dirty Dancer, and Look At Me Now. That last song got annoying fast though :/.
