I would have asked how much to buy them directly from them. And why they cost more than msrp ;-)

To buy them direct from distributors such as Excell...you need a huge chain of stores....like walmart, target, toysrus, etc. The msrp went up about a year ago, it is now the 4.18. If you get packs cheaper (hobby store, online, etc) then consider that a great deal. Everything from notebooks to apples are marked up high when you buy in a store. Just how stores make profit. Now stores like Toysrus or some mall stores may sell $5 or more per pack...but that is just the store trying to pay mall rent OR the store wants more profit. I think packs in some places like alsaka, hawaii, beverly hills,or new york city may be higher due to higher cost of everything there.

According to the sell sheets from nintendo, the msrp is only $3.39 a pack. Up from 3.29 a pack. The msrp went up once they started ptcgo by 10 cents, but it went up 40 cents on the shelf. The shop owner I know in california sells boxes for 80 each and makes a profit. Sells packs for 2.50 each and makes a profit. If it's actually a distributor and not a reseller putting the stock on the shelves of walmart, target, Kmart, etc... They are making an absurd amount of profit.

I know someone who buys direct from Pokemon, and they said that the price for packs went up recently. I guessed around the release of Next Destinies because I saw they had a NV box for $77 and a ND box at $85. Anyways, at those prices, they are making around $10 or less profit on boxes. As you can see, not that absurd :/

The absurd amount of profit was from the assumption that the retail stores have nothing to do with the cards at all. And if target customer service is to be believed, the distributor rents space from the store so it's not walmart or x store pricing it at $4.18 a pack.

Since we agreed that some shops sell a box for 80, and looking at a simplified price of $2 a pack purchase price for them making it $8 profit per box. A distributor would be selling it to the store for $2 a pack and be making some profit. And then selling directly to consumers at $4.18 a pack. While it's most likely a reseller stocking the shelf at the local big box store, you would assume that they buy cards at slightly above $2 a pack (due to packaging).

So, a large collection of store shelves selling at a presumably higher volume are also making a higher margin than your local card shop.

Which is why I would outright ask them why it's priced so much higher than the msrp if I ever saw the shelf being stocked.

Now, image if it is actually ran by the distributor instead of a reseller?

Just support your local card shop. I've pulled 12 full arts and 3 secret rares from a shop. But only 3 full arts from walmart/target packs.

Unfortunately the only hobby shop in my city sells booster boxes for $144. While I like to support the shop as much as I can, it is tough to pay that much when I can order a box for $85 (plus shipping) online.

Including the fastest shipping option available, a case of six booster boxes purchased online would cost the same amount as four booster boxes in his store. :(

Note that this store is located in Canada. Could that make a difference? I just visited the United States and picked up a couple of boxes for $99.99 each in a hobby shop there. That's about the same as one box, including shipping, purchased online.

$144! Ouch that's a lot. I believe the hobby shop near me and the one in WEM have them for around $120. It's still a bit pricey. But that big increase of price you have is a bit odd considering we live in the same province. Guess I won't think about making any card purchases if I ever travel there. :p

I went to target on Saturday and bought 3 DEX packs (I wan't too happy they had no gragons exalted). I opened the first one (excadrill pack) No real luck, just a non-holo rare. The next pack I opened was a venesaur pack. I went through and found nothing exciting except a darkrai EX which I was estatic about! The final pack darkrai pack I opened and continuing my awesome luck I pulled a tornadus EX FA I was quite happy about this as I traded my last one away.

Today I got the pull of my life I went to the Flea Market today because they have Dragons Exalted for $2.50 a pack (there real cards) and I decided to pay $20.00 to get 8 packs and this is what I pulled

Shiny Rayquaza!!!
I was pretty excited about the rayquaza but i was bummed i got the registeel because i realllllly want the ho-oh full art i think it looks awesome and for some reason i only got 2 EXs.

A few days later i went to walmart and bought 7 packs and got the absolute best pulls of my life. i got...
Rayquaza EX and
HO-OH FA!!!!
i was so stoked when i pulled ho-oh i couldnt believe i got 2exs in 7 packs and one was a full art!!

Both the booster box opening and the 7 packs were recorded and uploaded onto youtube at exdarkrai01. Check out my channel and let me know what yall think i do pack openings all the time!!

Last night I pulled out a Darkrai EX (full art) out of a pack. Also got a Raikou EX eariler in the week but it wasn't the full art kind.

From my booster box of Dragons I pulled FA's for Rayquaza and Ho-oh EX, Registeel EX and Giratina EX plus a shiny Serperior. Pretty awesome pulls since I was expecting like ultra rares.

The very first Dragons Exalted booster I open and get Shiny Serperior. The second one had Mew EX. :feels lucky man:

Also last Sunday bought a booster and nothing good came out, but the cashier didn't had change for my money so I bought a second one instead. Pulled out the good Garchomp.

Bought a few dark explorers and dragons exalted packs. Got goodchomp, rh altaria, tool scrapper, SR serperior, ability gabite, and a few others. Not bad pulls if you ask me!

I bought the Mewtwo and Rayquaza tin today. I was thinking about makeing a video, since there so few videos of the EX tins yet. But I decided that I probably would pull crap and just didn't bother with it.. .

I'm SOOO happy about that, I know I didn't get the best EXes, but I don't play to serious and Ho-Oh EX FA is one of my absolute favorite cards ever so its still the card I wanted the most out of this set :D I can promise you my heart pumped like crazy when I pulled it out of the last pack! Also, 3 of 4 rares were useful for my pokedex-collection :)
