@Lenny
I'd like to first say that I in no way disagree with what's going to happen. Not at all. But the majority of others disagree, and no one's standing up for that majority, so I feel I have to do it.
Lets put it this way.
We are a forum that is known for the "Spam Corner" as someone else called it, correct?
By taking the "Spam Corner" away, what do we hope to accomplish?
That our members will get better at the game because we get rid of a forum? That's entirely unrealistic.
As you say, we're trying to increase our reputation. So by seeing that everyone wants to keep a forum, ignoring them and continueing to proceed with it and take away the forum, that's gonna boost our reputation. Quite frankly, I disagree.
The majority of members want to keep these threads. (Not to bash on S-mods, because I still agree with what you're doing) The S-mods are doing is in their best interest for the site and it's members, when the majority of the members want the exact opposite of what they're doing. Is this the image we're trying to achieve? One where the S-mods are going to do what they want to do when the members of the site oppose it just because they have the power to do it?
There's something obviously wrong in the way communication is made between the members and the higher-ups. Instead of doing what we're planning on doing, how bout we improve what we're already doing wrong which we know will change this site for the better? Fixing the communication and impact on decision making members have with the higher-ups is the first step to changing anything on this site for the better.
By "driving out the useless members", you're saying that:
A) Members who only post in the Forum Games and More are useless
and
B)Getting rid of them will make this site better
I thought Pokebeach was a friendly community, not some kind of Team or Clan that only has members who are good, or actually post. I guess I was wrong.
Maybe the "Pokebeach" that Pokebeach has to be is one where it only contains members who post in forums about Pokemon or provide discussion.
We're a community, we're a website, and most importantly, we're a forum. And we should be a forum that allows any member to join (Excluding bots and the like), good at TCG/VG or not, because again, we're a Forum, not a Clan.
Ok, here we go. The initial reason PokeBeach was made was to have a focus on helping with TCG, which then evolved to helping with VG once that came out. Along the way, we lost our purpose. We are trying to get back on track with that purpose.
The new image we are trying to get for PokeBeach is OF COURSE going to conflict with the members. OF COURSE some of the members are going to disagree with this. We are trying to increase our reputation among the Pokemon communities. Our new image will conflict with our current image because they are different. We are trying to become a more professional group of players with the main purpose of TCG and VG POKEMON.
The higher-ups are the ones who decide because they're the one who want their forums to be the way they are. The current members will be opposed to any change that conflicts with theirs. This isn't a democracy where everybody has a say in things. This is an oligarchy, where a few elite rule. They make the decisions based on how they want their forum to be like. And if they want their forum to be more professional, then they need to make decisions. That doesn't mean they can't take the member's ideas into account, but in this case, they feel the Game Corner is detracting from the forum's views.
When I said driving out the useless members, I meant the ones that ONLY come here for the Game Corner. Not the ones that are invested in both.
Once again, PokeBeach is trying to change it's image. While they may conflict with the feelings of some members here, we are trying to attract a bigger community more fixated on our purpose: Pokemon TCG and VG. We accept any member and we're not forcing anybody to come here, nor are we forcing anybody to play the TCG and VG. But we are trying to work towards our purpose: become a professional TCG and VG website. Maybe once we've reached this goal, we'll bring the Game Corner back. Lots of the Game Corner is spam, and it's making us look bad as a forum. I know it's hard for some people to come to this realization that they're not contributing to the forum, but that's what this forum needs right now. Contribution.
@Ice_Master:
Thanks for not doing any research at all buddy. I was very active in the VG forum during the summer. I tried helping TDL come up with discussion ideas, and I posted in a lot of them, too. I even posted on RMTs and helped. I'm sorry I have school now and can't post on it as much as I wish to. But if you looked back a little, you would have seen things.
As for your RPGs comment, I was simply bringing up a point brought up by someone earlier. He said he met a lot of his friends through RPGs. I was simply saying he doesn't need the RPGs to continue his friendship with these people. I know exactly how RPGs work. My post might not have clarified the point I was trying to make, but I hope you understand now. Game Corner does not go towards post count, but it does go towards the forum's image. And it's purpose as a whole.
Once again, I am not targeting you specifically. You're one of the many people who may very well contribute to the forum as well as play in the game corner. But there are probably twice as many people like you who do not.
@Riskbreakers:
Like I told Ice_Master, I was dedicated to the VG over the summer and tried to increase activity by taking part. The school year came around and I had work to do. I simply have not had as much time to invest in it.
That's all I've got to say really. I think I've said everything I could and I'm trying to explain where I'm coming from with these viewpoints.
