and CSJ says Catcher takes no skill to use. -___-

At first I was saying get the Emboar, but now that I think of it, I'll pick the tepig. IF I have another Catcher or I have a way to draw cards to try and fetch me another Catcher. Reason behind it is because picking up the Tepig is a guaranteed KO only for that turn. He has two Zones in play therefore the probability of him drawing a Pignite or Candy Emboar is good so by next turn, that KO isn't guaranteed anymore. The only problem with this strategy is that by next turn, he could already load up on energies which makes it useless to kill Emboar as the Zones already have enough for the rest of the game.

The other thing that makes going with Tepig tough is that most lists run 2 Emboar, so if he prized the other one, you would basically have game after killing the first. You can kill the Tepig next turn, and then all the Tepigs are gone even if he draws Emboar from his prizes with the energy in play.

Here's one more:
You're playing TyRam. You go first and open lone Cleffa. Your hand is 1 Typhlosion, 1 Communication, and then just Fire Energy. Do you Communicate for Vulpix or Cyndaquil (or Reshiram, I guess)?

I'd communicate for a Vulpix then EEEEEK out. you have no other choice anyway. Any chance to draw extra cards is a good thing lol.

The Vulplix. Being able to setup more is better than Cyndaquil. Then EEK.

A good strategy to also think of when starts is something like in this scenario.

Opening with a hand with a Cheren, cyndaquil and reshiram and a collector and a fire energy. A cleffa is also present in your deck. Would you start the cyndaquil so that you could easily retreat out to a collector'd cleffa or would you take the risk with starting reshiram and play Cheren in hopes of getting something playable.

I would always start with Cyndaquil, attempt to search out a Cleffa and THEN retreat. The main reason is because you get a leg up in your setup because there's now a fire energy in your discard that would need to be there anyway. Then you can safely Eeekk and get a fresh hand.

I have one:

Your playing Zekrom against an unknown deck. Your opponent has layed down one basic. In your hand you have a Pachirisu, a Tornadus, two Electric energy, a Pokemon Collector, and two other cards. You don't play Unown DARK. Do you lay down the Tornadus to conserve the Pachirisu, or do lay down the Pachirisu in the hope that your opponents pokemon has less than 60 hp?

Oh. I was saying donk Pachi.

Then I saw the edit.

Ok... Thats an easy question. Lay down Pachi, unless your playing a deck with Donphan. Is there a PP?

I would go Tornadus. You're one energy off of donking, so you can hope to hit an energy, Switch, SSU or a draw supporter for the donk. You could also Collector for clutch draw if you run it, Shaymin, and still get a 3rd Pokemon that doesn't have to be a Pachi. It conserves your other Pachi.

Furthermore, with Phanpy, Gothita, Cyndaquil, Tepig, Reshiram, Zekrom, Pachirisu, Shaymin, and Tornadus in the format, chances are not too great they have 50HP. And you still have to go first for the donk. And your 2nd Pachi can't be prized. If it is, you won't be able to generate for awhile, which might cost you the game.

Basically, opening Tornadus still gives you a chance at the donk (and a reasonably good one at that), with no risk factor. If you whiff the donk and opened Pachi, you're in a losing position. Whiffing the donk with Tornadus isn't nearly as bad.

I would probably start with Pachirisu, and bench Tornadus.

If I could donk, I would. If not I'd charge Tornadus.

Very good question there, I am still not positive.

I'd never run into this problem because I run Unown UD.

I'd say start with Tornadus– even without the donk, which is still likely, you conserve resources and get a good setup regardless. Besides, you might not even go first, and by that point, you've wasted a Pachi.

I would actually play the Pachirisu down as the active pokemon. The reason why is because if you can donk, then great, you win. If not, you can just search for a Cleffa with Collector, attach one of the lightnings and retreat to the Cleffa and Eek, and hope for a good hand and a turn 2 set up. Or yeah, running Unown Dark might just help you avoid this problem.

Well if you do run Unown, then that shouldn't happen, but I guess it could always be prized so this is still useful.

^But then you wouldn't know it was prized, so you would go for Tornadus anyways. It being prized has no effect on the decision you make.
