XY Mega Evolution: Mega Pokémon & Info

RE: Mega Evolution: All Mega Pokémon & Info

I just remembered that Mewtwo X is a Psychic/Fighting-type after you said that, Drohn. It's really interesting. What will be the advantages to picking an X or a Y? Are X Pokemon more powerful or give you better type advantages? Do Y Pokemon's designs and types change less and you get a really good ability?

RE: Mega Evolution: All Mega Pokémon & Info

@Frezgle: I forgot about Ampharos. He might become X-exclusive, though.
@ShiningRaikou: That's a good point. Y does seem to get the better abilities. I'd pick Drought over Tough Claw (although it also depends on how much the attack will be increased from it).

I actually think that ChariXard could be a pretty good Pokemon.

It has that ability which boosts physical power, and it has access to Dragon Dance, which it actually now has the good stat for.
Fire/Dragon is also superior coverage than Fire/Flying, except for Azumarill which it can run Thunderpunch for.

I can see this be a viable set for ChariXard:
-252 Atk/252 Spe/4 HP
@ Charizardite X
-Dragon Dance
-Flare Blitz
-Dragon Claw/Outrage
-Thunderpunch/Fighting move/Earthquake

DD for setting up, FB for super strong STAB. The difference between Dragon Claw and Outrage in terms of power is a huge one; however running Outrage does run the risk of a Fairy switching in to set up whilst it happily blocks out your attacks. TPunch is useful for Azumarill coverage, whereas Fighting is better for hitting Heatran.
Earthquake could be a semi-decent option I guess, tho I can't see anything major that it hits that its other moves don't (with the Heatran exception, however Heatran can be hit with a Fighting move).

The really annoying thing about Megas in competitive is that you can't hold any items. This set I can see being particularly effective with Life Orb.

RE: Mega Evolution: All Mega Pokémon & Info

Something that has been bothering me for awhile is this. What if your Mega Evolved Pokemon is forced out? Will it revert to its base form, and if so, will it be able to Mega Evolve again? I get the feeling that the way the limitations on Mega Evos per battle comes from the Mega Band only functioning once per battle.

RE: Mega Evolution: All Mega Pokémon & Info

I was quite sure that Mega Evolution lasts throughout the battle. Besides you can Mega Evolve without wasting a turn to attack, so it wouldn't matter. It could then probably Mega Evolve right after switching in again.

What I'm curious about is what happens to Charizard when it's in a Sky Battle and loses its Flying type..

Yeah I just asked this same question in another thread. I think the criteria a Pokemon must meet in order to participate in a Sky Battle mustn't just be Flying type or Levitate ability. If a Pokemon has functional wings in general it may be able to participate.

Did neither of you watch its release trailer? d: They show it Mega Evolving in the middle of a Sky Battle into X and it doesn't fall down or anything. Stays aloft just fine.
Gives me hope for Beedrill and the like. :V

Not sure that Y really does get the better abilities. I'm no expert on competitive battling, but I don't think Insomnia is really better than Steadfast, or Drought is really better than Tough Claws. Or at least not to the point where it's a fair trade for X gaining extra types.

RE: Mega Evolution: All Mega Pokémon & Info

Any word on whether or not we can get all three Kanto starter Mega Stones, or just the one connected to the one we pick? I want to take Bulbasaur, but I really want to use Drought Charizard.

I'm almost certain that the starter we pick will come equipped with their respective Mega Stone.

If you want DroughtZard, you'll probably have to trade to get it - this is assuming you pick Bulbasaur and are playing X.

Not sure if it applies for all Pokemon that can do sky battles, but Charizard (As well as megas) always flies in-battle, which no Charizard sprite has done before, so that might have something to do with it.

However, it would be pretty funny if he feel out of the sky and got insta-ko'd.

RE: Mega Evolution: All Mega Pokémon & Info

So are Mega Stones tradable when attached to a Pokémon? My brother and I prefer the Mega Charizard that we are not able to get in-game, so I thought that it would be cool to just trade Stones (not Charizards because that would be ridiculous).

I'm pretty sure. They're just held items. Plus, that'd be mean of GF to be that exclusive.

RE: Mega Evolution: All Mega Pokémon & Info

I don't think Trick, Knock Off, and other similar moves will work at all against a Pokemon holding a mega stone. Giratina-O and Arceus that have a plate attached support this theory.

RE: Mega Evolution: All Mega Pokémon & Info

I wonder whether more confirmed Mega Pokémon are version exclusive. The X and Blaziken's face and on Lucario's chest make me think they might be exclusive to Pokémon X.

Maybe Lucario might be, but wasn't Blaziken's Mega form confirmed to be given to players of either X or Y? That gives me the impression that Blaziken's Mega isn't version exclusive.

RE: Mega Evolution: All Mega Pokémon & Info

Mega-absol is my fav. They haven’t spoiled Absol in any way, & those wings are perfect. I wonder if it can fly, or are they for decoration? Absol is the disaster Pokemon, so this one should be the apocalyptic angel? Sent from the sky above to save others from disasters but also be disastrous to the opponent in battle? I wonder why its got fur covering one eye. Does the other eye look different & have special powers? Like psychic powers?

Since Mega Blaziken is event only, then I see absolutely no reason for it to be version exclusive - and its bound to cause butthurtedness in the fandom if either Sceptile or Swampert get a counterpart event Mega.

eg
Mega Blaziken + Mega Sceptile being evented = swampert fanboys are not gonna be happy

RE: Mega Evolution: All Mega Pokémon & Info

What I thought was that maybe both games would get different version exclusive Mega Blaziken. It might be a bit farfetched. :p I didn't expect it from Charizard, however, so I wouldn't be surprised if it happened for more Pokémon. Maybe even all of them?

I have to say, and I haven't grumbled about anything related to this game until now, but that is obnoxious. I will be playing Y, so Droughtzard isn't an issue, but if I want him I'll be missing out on the Venusaur Mega Stone. Getting Venusaur isn't a problem, I have a complete Pokedex waiting to be transferred, but I'll need that stone. No one is picking the other Kanto starters, and those that do will not part with their Venusaur or Blastoise stones. If I can't get transfer items into my Pokebank (via pokes holding them), I'll be forced to buy X, which is the mother of hassles.
