Yes, thank you for the warm welcoming. Anyway I plan on starting on my template for a userbar soon but, not to sure how to get started because I have lost quite a bit of knowledge from when I did have the template. So I am fresh and ready to learn so if anyone can give me some guidance and some help along the way I have a feeling I can become a good artist of course not better then my mentor Lilsparks101 :). I have admired Lilsparks work for awhile and have been waiting for the chance for me to find some time to learn and Super Sleuth use to be my favorite banner maker now I don't see him as much. Chillarmy and SPM3 I beileve are upcoming and soon to be great artist just need some touching up here and there.
3 Main thins I need from you guys to get me started:
- Guidance
- Encouragment
- Tough Critism

- R-C

Hey rotom-cut, glad to see the interest in graphics =)
if you haven't already, I suggest you download GIMP. Most of us are on skype during the day so any tutoring will usually be done there. If you don't have skype its free to download.
lilsparks is eager to tutor so you can contact him with any questions or concerns you might have to help you make better banners since he has used GIMP in the past.
glad to have you apart of the group.

We have a new member, TheRayOD, I'm sure he'll feel welcomed along with the other members.

The Adopt a Sig project is launching soon, so I'd like for all members to be a part of it when it launches.

All members that need, require, were already recieving tutoring should contact their tutor. I'm disappointed in the lack of interaction in those who want to learn, but aren't reaching out for it.

Thank you lilsparks101 for allowing me to join this group. I cannot wait to do projects, make graphics and more. I am very excited to do projects and stuff with you all :D

Lilsparks I have only finished 1 of 3 of the assignments because of being short on time. I will try my hardest to finish them all today, but I don't think I can. Sometime this week I think I'll be able to resume tutoring again. Hopefully I'll be able to make a decent sig by the time the project is done.

Made a new tag~

Sleuth, if you could take the liberty of adding this to the first post on the Adopt A Sig page, I would appreciate it. :3

Hey everyone. Does anyone know a website where I can find some pokemon card renders? I'm specifcally looking for Machamp Prime and Donphan Prime.

Thanks! :D took me 3 tries to get the official its looking ok sign from SPM3 :p it had a IMVU render on it which i had to cover and a road. after an hour of bluring, layer laying and smudging it was gone.then their was a random cutoff of color spm3 pointed out to me which i had to fix. :p im learning though thanks to dakota :D he is a tutoring chucknoris :3 . here is the edited version

Try working on using more complementing colors. The colors are too orange for Carnage. He would look nice with violet/purplish-red.

When you "toned" down the colors, what exactly did you do? That white smoke wisp effect doesn't look good grey.

I would use thinner borders, too.

Work on lighting. I don't recall if GIMP has soft brushes, so use a regular circle brush. Change the color of the brush to black or white depending on the lighting you're doing. Brush black where the shadows will be, and white on a separate layer where the light will be coming from. Then run a Gaussian Blur on both layers. Set the blend modes to Soft Light and lower the opacity a bit. Someone who knows GIMP more than me would be able to tell you better.

You could also try Gradients. Make a gradient with the white being the light source and the black being where you desire shadows, or at least a darker look. Smudge or Blur the gradient so that the transition from black to white is smoother.

The Burn and Dodge tools, which darken and lighten colors respectively, are great for lighting, too.

Depth can wait until you're better with flow and lighting. So for now, focus on those two things.

tl;dr version: You've got a long way to go, but you're progressing nicely. Keep up the good work. =D

Thanks sprite :D. I did some of the lighting effects you told me to do and tried to stick with as much flow as possible. CnC please :3

So, when I'm doing lighting, should I be using black/white paintbush on ~50 Opacity, or use the Burn and Dodge tools?

Make sure not to cover the focal point in shadows, the focal point in this case is the girl's face. Also, the light on her shoulder doesn't make sense, and it's ugly.

@Chillarmy: You should get used to using both.

You both should also follow that lighting tutorial. I'm even going to take a peek at it.

Thankyou for the tutorial!!!! :D It helped a ton! here is my latest one i did. The only images i used were the genisis render and butterflys. The rest was completely done by me. Including the bg

It's okay.

Minimal flow, decent depth, hardly any attempt at lighting. You should stop shoving all of your renders into a corner. Don't think that using a stock as a background is a bad thing. It looks better most of the time if you use a stock instead of creating the background on your own, at least at your level.

Also, I see you like to use two pixel width borders. Any reason you don't use just one pixel width? It doesn't really matter, but most of the time one is enough.

THE GRAPHICS TITANS CLASH IN A BATTLE OF THE FITTEST!
Lilsparks, Sleuth, and myself have entered a friendly competition. A three way "Tag Off". Each tag was made in 3 hours (except mine, I got sidetracked and had to beg for a few more minutes :3 ).

Voting begins as soon as the thread is open! We invite you all to come and vote~
