^ Im making that right now. I got some new brushes from deviantart, and Im "experimenting" with them right now.

EDIT: Here it is. Not for GFX Showdown btw.

EDIT: And another sig for me:

On the second banner, I would say to size it down to maybe 450 x 150 because you really don't need the extra space. Also, The text is okay, though it is the font I'm worried about. It's kinda hard to read. Use another font that people can read a little more better. :)

For your Darkria Banner, I would say most of the stuff I said on your second banner.

I have made a new banner on my new laptop just for a test, though to me it turned out great. Tell me what you think.

Its OK, but the blur on Reshiram doesnt make it look too good.

My result:

I was trying to rotate the text, but something weird happened. :/

Looks like some items to me... Again, the text is really dark and... not even readable.. Though love the background.

@Pokemaister
You make your background before you actually add the render? :O
Maybe that's a problem. You see since your style has the effects as the background this is a bad way to make a signature. The effects should flow with your render and if you add the effects beforehand with out any clue of what the render will be, how would you know if the flow fits. Maybe something to think about next time.

And yeah your text. Text isn't meant to be at all that fancy. In fact I prefer to have no text at all because of all the attention it takes away from your focal.

Also try adding some adjustment layers to help tie the colours together like gradient maps etc

Yeah I do my backgrounds first, but most of the time I know what renders I am going to put in beforehand.
@EPM
Yeah I thought the same thing too with the text being too dark, I was trying to make it fit with the background.

I Heart Gradient Maps. <3

But yeah, don't use pre-made BG's, whether you made them or not.

Make the background for the render, do not choose the render to match the background.

Did you use any C4D's in it? Seems like there is something in the background. Either that, or a oversized brush. Love the font, absolutely readable.

I believe you did exactly what I told you not to if what you said, "I made one to fit the background", is true.

Don't drastically change the color of the render like you did there. Use Gradient Maps lightly. Not necessarily sparingly, just use them properly.

And set gradient maps on soft light than mess with the oppacity. Don't make it look to saturated either.
Not sure if GIMP has this but on Photoshop there is something called curves- The best aha.

See that is the reason why I hate using brushes for backgrounds because they look very messy and show no flow. I prefer c4ds,fractals, space stocks and bokeh for my effects because they are much easier and have a much nicer,flowing outcome

Sorry for my inactivity, I've been really sick these past days. 103 degree fever and I'm just now getting over it. I should be posting again soon, lmk if you guys need anything.
