This would be very interesting...
A movie.

I'm quite curious about how well such a movie would do. Are a large portion of people who appreciate the show "closet" fans? Or is that a negligible figure compared to a vast majority of "open" bronies?

People who I know that enjoy the show are pretty open about MLP, but as I live in a) England and b) a pretty nerdy environment, my perception of the general case could be skewed (especially with regards to the country I live in, American culture tends to be rather different from my own).

So partly out of interest, and partly to keep the thread alive, I ask ye all: Do you readily express your enjoyment of the show to others? Or do you hide it out of fear of being judged, etc?

To answer my own question, I myself don't deny it if somebody asks me, but it's not the kind of thing I randomly mention in a conversation without prompting. I don't consider myself a Brony because I don't like being tagged with ill-defined names, as many people's interpretations of what a Brony is can be highly maleable which innevetably leads to misunderstanding (some consider it as being a fan, others consider it as being a fanatic, etc). It's much easier to just say "Yeah man I think it's actually a really solid show, you should check it out".

If MLP does get a movie, it'll likely just be a cartoon one not live-action like all the Hasbro ones were. Transformers and GI-Joe were good for it because they already had strong action-y bases and appealed to guys in general anyways. MLP doesn't and only appeals to a set amount of male fans (even though there are still a lot of bronies, there are even more men who despise MLP).

I agree. I certainly don't see a live-action movie being very good. To be successful, the movie would have to be cartoonized like it is on the show, so people can easily recognize them and would be more interested in seeing the movie.

in regards to bacon's question: I'm fairly open about the whole MLP thing (I wear t-shirts and a pink MLP backpack), but I live in one of the most liberal parts of the US (southeastern New York) so no one ever gives me trouble.

I don't advertise it (only because I cannot find such an amazing backpack and I don't really like any of the shirts enough to buy them), but I don't hide it, either.

I hide it because I know for a fact that at an all-boy private high school (middle school now, high school next year), I'd get a lot of heat for liking My Little Pony- Friendship is Magic.
Of course, I know exactly 8 other bronies at my school, but I'm pretty certain there also secret.

I'm not too big on merchandise period, and I'm not very open about any of the fandoms I'm into with anyone of the web. The few times it came out that I'm a brony, people just giggled or gave me looks (like when people find out that I still like Pokemon or anything kid-friendly). On a side note, I would like to get a shirt with Fluttershy and/or Rainbow Dash or Princess Celestia and Princess Luna on it someday, but it's a matter of finding a place that sells them in 3XLT or 4XL.

I don't have any merchandise, if I want to remain hidden, owning anything would be extremely dangerous. But even if I could, I wouldn't get anything besides a shirt.

I'm open about liking the show amongst my friends, of course, most of them watched the show at a point in time as well. I'm open about it at school too, I honestly don't care what a bunch of under-educated teens think about me. I know I don't think highly about any of them. I see no benefit in telling my family, so my parents don't know. They may have figured it out, not sure, don't really care. I just don't want my interests to disappoint my father more than they already do :/

I'm a closet brony still. I've been wanting to tell some other people I know, but I guess all the bullying I weathered has made me extremely cautious, I guess. I'm not sure.

LOL all my friends dont care I like MLP because thye like other kid shows too like Adventure Time or the new Avatar with that Korra chick. :p I love MLP and Pokemon oh well theres no hiding it! I never went into the closet about it at all-when I knew I loved the show I just went out into the world and told my friends about it!!! That show is so darned cute and funny, its so hard to resist!!! Its on the Hub for little girls to watch but I feel like it is truly for teenagers/early twenty year olds of both genders. Dont mind what other people say about you like, just be yourself! Thats most important! Screw peer pressure! ;)

Guess who is getting a fluttershy cutie-mark tattoo!!! ( that means me ^-^ ) i thought about it last night-I am gonna make it happen. :D

Right now, my life with upcoming finals:
Wakeup->eat->Ponies->Studying->Ponies->Studying->eat->Ponies->Studying->Ponies->Studying->eat->Ponies->Studying->Sleep.
...I'm not sure what I would do without ponies.
BTW, Netflix tweeted:
"This is Just for Kids (but we know you watch it too). My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic http://bit.ly/MyLittlePonyFIM"
