RE: Name That Team

So to prevent any more confusion I just went to serebii (shoulda done that in the first place) and went through the chart one by one. The following changes have been made:

+1 Fighting resistance

Everything is correct now. I apologize for the mistakes. As a gesture of goodwill, I will confirm that Diancie is on the team, as well as promise to not try and take the easy way out for future rounds.

RE: Name That Team

It couldn't have been Staraptor in the first place because there is no Ghost immunity.

RE: Name That Team

I think there might still a mistake. The types there seem to be are Ghost, Dark, Ice, Dragon, Poison, Fighting, Flying, and two Grass types. To have 2 Flying weaknesses, one must be Grass/Fighting. The problem is that there is only one Ground resistance which means that the other Grass type must be Grass/Flying, Grass/Poison, or Levitate. The problem is that with Grass/Flying, there is no Electric weakness. If the Grass type has Levitate, then in order to have 3 Ice weaknesses, we must have either Dragon/Flying or Dragon/Grass. Dragon/Flying again means no Electric weakness. Dragon/Grass means that we have 2 Ground resistances. Grass/Poison means that in order to have 3 Ice weaknesses, we must have Dragon/Flying, which again means no Electric weakness.

My reasoning for the types is that since there's a Poison and a Steel weakness without an immunity to Fairy or Dragon nor a Normal resist, we must have an Ice and a Grass. Combine those with the required Dark and Ghost for the required immunities and the Dragon for a dragon weakness. With Dark, Ghost, Dragon, Ice, and Grass we still need the following:
an Ice weakness
a Flying weakness
a Rock weakness
2 Psychic weaknesses
an Electric weakness
one less Bug weakness
a Grass resistance
a Water resistance
an Electric resistance
a Dark resistance
a Bug resistance
a Fighting resistance
a Rock resistance
and a Fairy resistance
Maybe something with Water instead of Flying for the Electric weakness is possible. There is no other Fire resist, so it must be paired with Grass or Ice. However, pairing it with Ice removes the Steel weakness and pairing it with Grass gives us another Ground resistance and removes the Electric weakness. This would also mean we're missing a Rock weakness, which could mean that Bug or Fire is also involved. I thought maybe there are two Ice types and one of them is paired with Water, but that gives us an extra Fighting weakness unless it is Froslass. Froslass and an Ice/Water would mean Hydreigon is one Ground immunity, but it is impossible for there to be a second one while using the last two spaces on the four remaining types(Grass/Poison and Grass/Fighting).

RE: Name That Team

Think outside the box. Remember, if it doesn't do double damage, it isn't a weakness.

RE: Name That Team

I thought I had covered combinations that make a weakness neutral. Oh well. I looked back over things and Fighting is confirmed as it's the only Rock and Dark resist that doesn't add an extra immunity we don't need. That makes Grass, Ghost, Dark, Dragon, Ice, and Fighting confirmed. We have up to 4 more types to use that aren't Steel, Rock, Ground, Normal, Fairy, Dragon, Dark, or Ghost.
With Fighting added we need the following and here are ways to do so:
another Ice weakness - Flying or another Grass
another Rock weakness - Flying, Fire, or Bug
another Psychic weakness - Poison or another Fighting
another Electric weakness - Flying or Water
one less Fairy weakness - Fire, Poison, or one pair of Dark, Dragon, and Fighting. Hydreigon seems likely to me because of Levitate.
one less Bug weakness - Flying, Poison, Fire, another Fighting, or pair up Grass and Dark with either each-other or Fighting
two more grass resistances - Grass, Poison, Flying, Fire, or Bug
another Water resistance - Grass or Water
another Electric resistance - Grass or Electric
another Fairy resistance - Poison or Fire
another Fighting resistance - Flying, Poison, Bug, or Psychic. Psychic would only work if Dark and Ghost are paired so that we still have one weakness to both Dark and Ghost.

RE: Name That Team

So... the confirmation of Diancie removes the following:

Immunity:
-Dragon

Resistance:
- Bug
- Dark
- Fire
- Flying
- Normal

Weakness:
- Grass
- Ground
- Water
- Steel
Leaving us with:
Weaknesses

3 Ice
2 Fighting
2 Flying
2 Rock
1 Steel
2 Psychic
2 Fairy
2 Fire
1 Poison
1 Bug
1 Ghost
1 Electric
1 Dragon
1 Dark
0 Ground
0 Water
0 Grass
0 Normal

Resistances

4 Grass
3 Water
3 Electric
2 Dark
1 Bug
1 Fire
1 Ground
1 Poison
1 Fighting
1 Rock
1 Ghost
1 Ice
1 Fairy
0 Flying
0 Normal
0 Steel

Immunities
1 Normal
1 Fighting
2 Ground
1 Psychic
0 Dragon

RE: Name That Team

Way ahead of you, ninjas. The Steel weakness means we need an Ice type as we only have one Dragon immunity and Normal resistance. The Dragon weakness confirmed a Dragon type. The immunities confirm a Ghost and a Dark type. The Poison weakness without another Dragon immunity confirms a Grass type. The other Dark resistance and the Rock resistance confirm a Fighting type as there are only one Psychic immunity and no Poison or Electric immunities.

RE: Name That Team

Ha, you did too. Hope you didn't cover this too xD

Well... I decided to look through the types and sorta show the other half of the data you expressed in post #27 (since I personally find eliminating also helpful), so here are the results:

Pokemon that cannot be included:
Any Fire Types.
Any Poison types excluding:
Lines: Crobot, Venusaur, Beedrill, Vileplume, Venomoth, Victreebel, Gengar (excluding Mega), Ariados, Roserade, Scolipede, Amoonguss
Individuals: Skorupi, Dustox
Any Ground types.
Any Rock types.
Any Steel types.
Any Water types.
Any Electric types.
Any Fairy types

RE: Name That Team

One more tip.

As you make your eliminations, you may find that at some point you can't get any further because there are lots of possibilities. If it comes to that, put a guess together with the few Pokemon that you're confident about and guess the rest. Once you get those Pokemon confirmed, you will have a solid place to begin figuring out the rest.

In this game's original iteration, I allowed 10 guesses. Most of the time, however, people were able to figure it out in two, and that's only because of what I mentioned above. Trust me when I say that five guesses is plenty.

RE: Name That Team

Why are Fire, Water, and Electric impossible? I assume it's to avoid weaknesses to Ground or Grass. However, there are Fire/Flying, Electric/Flying, Water Pokemon neutral to Grass, and Pokemon with Levitate such as Eelektross and Rotom. I'm too lazy to really look into it.

I already mentioned that we have no Ground, Rock, Steel, or Fairy types before at least once. :)

RE: Name That Team

Currently, these are the types that a Pokemon cannot have weakness or resistance to, respectively.
Code: 0 Fairy [Water] || <0 with weak/resist> <the weak/resist> [<out of fire, water and electric, which ones require one of the weak/resist>]

Weak
0 Ground [Electric, Fire]
0 Water [Fire]
0 Grass [Water]
0 Normal [None]

Resist
0 Flying [Electric]
0 Normal [None]
0 Steel [Electric, Water, Fire]

Pokemon like Fire/Flying and Electric/Flying also require a Steel resistance, on top of their weaknesses. There also are no combos that neutralises Water's Steel and Grass resist/weak. Electric combos are also similar, as they must nuetralise all three of the resistance and weaknesses.

Cool, and now we've got them in nice elementary (i.e. tl;dr) sentences + more ;)

RE: Name That Team

Nice work. Applying this knowledge to the spoilered material I posted earlier means that we can also confirm a Flying type, a Poison type, and a second Grass type. So that means I was right about the types I gave earlier and just missed the right combination, possibly because of there's room for another repeat type or a Bug.

OR PMJ IS WRONG

RE: Name That Team

With Fire, Electric, and Water eliminated, we need a Flying type for an Electric weakness, a Poison type for a Fairy resistance, and a Grass type to resist Water and Electric. With only two Flying weaknesses, we can confirm either Breloom or Virizion. With only one Ground resistance, we can confirm Grass/Poison or Carnivine. With only two Fire weaknesses, we can confirm Kyurem, but we would lose our Fire resistance. We are left with Flying, Ghost, Dark, and Poison for the other two. With two Fairy weaknesses, Dark/Poison should be confirmed, but that would give us a Ground weakness and remove a needed Psychic weakness...

RE: Name That Team

Because then there would be 3 Fairy weaknesses. Also, Kyurem would remove our Fire resistance. I would say Abomasnow is confirmed instead, but that gives us 2 Ground resistances....

PMJ!!!!!!

RE: Name That Team

Think beyond types. A Pokémon with levitate is immune to ground. What other abilities affect type matchups?

RE: Name That Team

Oooooohhhhhhh Mega Venusaur confirmed.

Mega Venusaur, Breloom/Virizion, and Hydreigon/Zweillous confirmed. That leaves Ice, Flying, and Ghost, but not Ice/Flying. We have two Fighting weaknesses, so Ice is mono and Drifblim is confirmed. That should give us Diancie, Mega Venusaur, Breloom, Hydreigon, Glailie, and Drifblim.
