Looks truly awesome, bro. Personally, I think the illustration is fantastic! I like the effect as well...as you said, the wording may be off, but I like the way it was done regardless.

Thanks! I'm glad you think it looks alright. I was worried that no one would like it. I guess I'm just being hard on myself.

Yesh! >:3

I'm not going to make it unstoppable, but I am going to make it a frustrating opponent. Afterall, Dunsparce is the "Great Annoyer". :)

RE: Nekoban's Random Cards: Dunsparce's Millennium Item? 07/10/11

I'm not going to edit the main post for this update because it's a WIP, but I recently started trying to make a new set of templates. I was going to use it for my glass symbols, but the symbols didn't work well with the official texture, so I used official energy symbols.

When I make my blanks, I usually make sure I start making them at least 4 times the size of the final product so I can scale them down later to avoid the pixely-ness (since I made the base in MS Paint), but I forgot to do that for this one, so it's really small and still has some unsightful pixels.

As-is, I probably won't work on these templates anymore. However, if any of you talented fakers would like to try to make high-quality blanks based on the one used above, please do! If possible, I'd also like to see the various grey bars running across the card to look more beveled/3D.

I'm unhappy with how the Stage bar turned out. I had actually forgotten to add one, so it was a last-minute addition. If you help with these blanks, please adjust the appearance and placement as you see fit. I have yet to make the Stage 1 and Stage 2 bars, but I'm thinking I'd like the part that says "Evolves from [Pokemon]" to be done in a glassy style, similar to the part with the number, class, height, and weight.

UPDATE: 2 new cards added!

My entry for PokemonFakes' Light and Dark contest:

And something I just randomly came up with:

Both illustrated by me. Anything on the first page NOT followed by "illustrated by..." was illustrated by me.

As always, <3. The Light Pokémon edit you made looks fantastic, and a great illustration to match it! I love the (EX:FRLG?) parallel foil you used for ____'s Rotom. It looks awesome. Nice attacks on the Rotom as well...very Imakuni?-esque.

Thanks! I first tried to edit the lightness, brightness, and saturation of the frame to make it look like the frame on Light Pokemon cards. Though I got it close, it was too light, so I dug up a PokeBeach scan of a Light Stage 1 Pokemon (Light Azumarill), cropped the frame, and applied a Darken Only blending mode with a little bit of transparency. It's still a bit lighter than the real cards, but it serves its purpose.

Thanks. I had a time ripping that foil. The graphic just didn't hardly want to come off of the card. After scrubbing for what seems like at least 30 minutes, it started to peel and I saw foil. I figured it would be easier just to peel it off, so I did. However, it started to stretch, crinkle, and roll and even some of it was still covered with a thin layer of paper, only the bottom half revealing foil. I tried to scan it, but it just wouldn't lay flat. I eventually got the idea to put it in a toploader, then scan it. That worked, though you could still see creases in the foil. I tried to edit it to make it usable, this being the result.

(At least that's not as bad as my attempt to rip the "3D PokeBall" foil used on Unseen Forces alternate holos...)

There's a reason why the attacks seem Imakuni?-esque. They're barely-tweaked versions of the attacks on Imakuni?'s Loudred. I just made them apply to a washing machine.

UPDATE: More possessed appliances!

heat_rotom_card_by_karite_kita_neko-d42d059.png

Eventually, I'll probably be making fake cards with each of my new Rotom illustrations. However, I will be making each of them in different styles, using different templates and languages. Some will be spoof cards, some will be serious. Some will be dual-typed, some will be single-typed. Some will use their BW typing, while others will use their DDPT/HGSS typing. Some will be holographic (using different types of foil), some of them won't.

I used Google to translate this card into Korean, so it's probably only about 5% accurate.

(Fire) (Fire) (Lightning) (Lighning) Broil: 50 damage
The Defending Pokemon is now Burned.

Perhaps I should have required the player to discard a (Fire) Energy attached to Heat Rotom to use Broil. What do you think? If so, I'll try to edit it later.

Flat out beautiful. Love the texture on Rotom and the background.

I bet you the text says something like "Under Cook - 10 Effect - Add one Burning Boost to this Pokemon.", knowing Google Translate :p. But beautiful card overall man, really love it.

Thank you! The texture is just a filter on GIMP called "Apply Canvas".

How do you apply a holofoil effect to a pattern (how can I write words and make them look holo)?

I think the best way to do it is to use a clipping mask, though I haven't tried doing that in GIMP yet. Instead, I put the foil on one layer and the solid-color text/shape/pattern on another layer. On the layer with the shape, I use the color-select tool to select the shape, inverse my selection, hide the shape layer, navigate to the foil layer, and hit delete (the selection, not the actual layer). This leaves foil in the shape of the text/shape/pattern. Apply a Multiply blending mode with 50-70% transparency to the foil layer if you want to make it the color of the background (like I did with the Wash Rotom and Mystery Relic A cards) or just recolor them (Colorize) if you want the foil to be a different color (like the gold text on Pokemon LEGEND cards). This technique should NOT be used on text/shapes/patterns with thin strokes.

In photoshop I define the holosheet as a pattern, then its literally a case of typing out your words, making fill opacity 0 and adding a pattern over it. The holosheet will appear in the following list.

(you may have to have a few of these in order to make it appear golden and holo, if your original holosheet is a generic black one from the net, i.e. 1 having color dodge, another multiply and a base one having a golden colour to work off.)

However like Neko I have no idea about GIMP, I would assume they'd be something similar on there though.

(if this is for your legend text PMJ)

RE: Nekoban's Random Cards: These Pokemon are DIVINE! 08/10/11

I made the following cards as gifts for the currently-active artists in the Art Gallery section of the Pokemon Acanthite Forums.

These cards were made for fun and shouldn't be taken seriously.
They were all illustrated by Zorua (aka "Gato"), the currently most-active artist @ Pokemon Acanthite.

I'm loving the black ability neko, whats that symbolise? aka green was poke-body, red poke-power, or is it just for looks? :)

Thanks.

Well, I mainly only did it because they looked odd with two normal Ability symbols, so I recolored one. Originally, I was going to put the black Ability symbol under the normal-colored one as a "Sub-Ability", but that seemed to throw off the weight of the card, so I moved it to the top (which also looks better since the illustrations have black backgrounds). I guess we could call the black Ability symbol a "Neutralizing Ability". I even considered the term "Chaos Ability", but this term would better apply to the effects of these cards' regular abilities. If the Poke-Power/Body setup were still in use, I would have probably called them Poke-Immunity. The color scheme comes from YGO Xyz Monster "Rank" stars.

RE: Nekoban's Random Cards: These Pokemon are DIVINE! 08/10/11

Sorry I've not been posting lately. I've been tied up with schoolwork and work for my internship. This has to be my busiest semester thus far. I've already had to crank out over 6 projects, including book covers, program covers, posters, calendars, tags, and certificates, for work - all of which were approved and used (which gives me such a happy feeling; a bunch of veterans will be getting a reward that I designed and a tag designed by me will be used for products by someone who has done photography of celebreties! She may even start using the logo I made for her as her official logo!) - as well as food labels, advertisements, essays, and research projects for school - not to mention exams! I'm currently working on some box templates (which I told myself I would work on tonight) and 3 newspaper ads. Ugh! lol

You'd think I had enough of this school stuff, but I keep asking for more. For instance, I was going to graduate college at the end of this semester, but because my financial aid was accepted for the Spring as long as I'm in the same area of study and since the curriculum was updated for an Associate's Degree, I decided to prolong my stay at college by 1 semester, so I won't be graduating until next year. This way I can still see some of my friends (the ones who aren't graduating, anyway).

Now that you know why I haven't been active, here is a very small update. Sorry for the low quality pics.

Inspired yet again by Pokemon Zeo, I made another Japanese-style Neo card with English test. This is the first fake I have made using Inkscape. I gave some of these out today, though I kept the holo variation for myself. The holo in the first pic was "shopped" into the pic after the card was printed (it's not real foil). The one in the second pic is really foil, but refractor foil (my least favorite type of foil). Unfortunately, IT has no background. I could solve this problem with some transparency film. I have some, but it's not made for my printer, so it doesn't work. Sad day.

Oh, before I forget... since the pic is blurry, here's what the card says:

Alex's Noko (Shiny Dunsparce) 50 HP {C}

Land Snake Pokemon. Length: 4'11", Weight: 31 lbs.

Pokemon Power: Heavenly Blessing
As long as Alex's Noko (Shining Dunsparce) is in play, whenever you have to flip a coin and the result is not in your favour, you may re-flip the coin. This power can only be used once per coin toss.

{C}{C} Graceless Headbutt 20
Flip a coin. If heads, the Defending Pokemon is now Paralyzed. If tails, Alex's Noko (Shining Dunsparce) does 10 damage to itself.

Weakness: {F}
Resistance: {P} -30
Retreat Cost: {C}

RE: Nekoban's Random Cards: Jumbo Unown VCC 10/21/11

UPDATE: New Unown VCC jumbo card added.

unown_vcc_jumbo_final_by_karite_kita_neko-d4dhzk6.png

This is the largest fake card I have printed, measuring 15"x11" (about 23 times the size of a regular card). It is also the best quality fake I have printed. Like the Porygon VCC jumbo I posted some time ago, this card was made from scratch. I built the template (including the symbols, the Pokemon logo, and the Poke Ball) in Adobe Illustrator and created the illustration in Microsoft Publisher + GIMP, whereas textures were made in Photoshop. It was printed on cardstock with toner, so it has a thick feel and it looks glossy (regular ink doesn't work this way).

Two copies of this card were printed, one destined for my Graphic Design teacher and the other for the print shop I did my internship at.
