From now on, all bans will be permanent.

When you are banned, you will be unable to view any forums except the new "PokeBeach Forum Jail." There you will face a trial. No, this is not a reality show, though it certainly sounds like one. You will be required to explain why you broke the rules and how you will change. If you convince the mods you understand what you did wrong and that you will change, you will be allowed back on the forums. Otherwise, your account will remain banned forever.

The advantage of this system is that not only does it force banned members to reflect on why they were banned, lowering future offenses, but it also allows them to be unbanned quickly. If you convince us that you understand what you did wrong and will never do it again, we can unban you almost immediately. (Though note that if what you did was severe, it will be like the old system where you will remain banned for a determined amount of time.)

All members who have been banned on this forum in the past can now see the Forum Jail and are allowed to appeal for their release.

The following is a copy of the instructions banned members will see (for everyone's reference, though hopefully you will never see them):

Welcome to the forum jail, banned member! These rules will explain what you can do to lift your PokeBeach forum ban. Please read everything word-for-word and follow the instructions or you will remain banned. If you cannot follow these simple instructions, we will not unban you.

First, reflect on why you were banned from the forum. While we as humans often view the world through our own unique perspective, is it possible you were doing something that others might consider offensive? Did you say something to another member that you would never say to your grandmother? Did you have an overall negative, aggressive, elitist, annoying, sour, or disrespectful attitude? Did you demonstrate a lack of intelligence, use poor grammar and spelling, or have overall shallow, spammy, trashy, or useless posts? Or were you simply not following the forum rules?

If you are steamed, it is best to wait a day or so before proceeding. If you blow this chance, we will not allow you back on the forums. Please keep this process professional and civil. If you have read the above and understand, please proceed:

  • Please create a thread in this forum by [clicking here] - title it with your exact username and the date of your ban in parentheses [ex: Water Pokemon Master (6/30/2011)]. If your ban date is unavailable, guesstimate. In the first line of your thread, copy and paste your ban reason.
  • If you understand why you were banned, explain in at least a lengthy paragraph why you were wrong and what you will do to change. If we feel you have learned your lesson (and you will need to effectively communicate that you have), your ban will either be lifted immediately or after a predetermined amount of time (depending on the severity of your offense). The mods will often respond to your thread and speak with you too, so be sure to check your thread regularly.
  • Alternatively, if you do not understand why you were banned, or would like to protest your ban, you are free to voice your concerns, questions, and thoughts in the same manner. After all, we want everyone to be at an understanding and to improve! However, keep in mind that most offending members are banned rightly so. So, if you were banned for a legitimate reason and blindly fight against your ban, we will not allow you back on the forums.
  • Do not contact any mods about your ban. Do not e-mail us, PM us, instant message us, etc. You are to conduct yourself exclusively through your thread. If you contact us outside of your thread, we will not lift your ban.
  • Do not discuss the contents of your thread with anyone. The thread is to remain strictly between yourself and the mods. If we find out you have, you will remain banned.
After we review your thread, we will let you know if you will be allowed back on the forum by either lifting your ban or telling you how long you will be banned for.

Keep in mind that if you are banned again after having told us that you will improve, the chances of us letting you back on the forums will drop dramatically, minor offense or not. Also note that if we unban you and you immediately repeat your mistakes, you will be banned permanently and without question.

Thank you, and we hope we see you back on the forums soon! :)

Wow man. I hope no one ever gets banned here again. I remember that one time I got banned and you said there would be a zero tolerance rule and you were right. That was like 5 years ago too. Man I hope I don't do any thing wrong without realizing it at the time like I did once but was counted as spam because I posted in the wrong thread. That happened almost a month ago XD.:)

I like this. I think it will do wonders for reducing bad behavior, spamming, bad advice, etc. It's a great idea.

I think it'll be great to give some people a second chance and get my buddy list back (maybe?). Hopefully some of the worst members don't get let off easily though.

The warning system's going to be the same (nowhere does it indicate it'll be different). It's just that when warn level rises high enough to a ban, the ban will persist until they petition in the Forum Jail.

This system was a great idea.
Maybe some members who I appreciated a little bit could be unbanned.

I just hope that some spammers (annoyers, etc.) never come back.

Aw crud. Kind of strict now. It is even worse than my other boards that I am on now. That's not good. So there are no 3 day bans or anything else now?? Yikes.:)

People aren't going to be unbanned easily. You will have to demonstrate intelligence, tact, and legitimacy.

Man you have gotten tough over the years. I remember when this place was pretty loose at one time. Now it is tighter than ever.:)

Because, more people are joining. With more members, more rules need to be set to keep this a safe place.

Or we can just bribe the mods and get off easy :p

Anyways I like this system better. This way we will have a lot less people causing trouble and get rid of those who are immature.

I've got a quick question. On PB there are two different bangroups: one allows you to send PMs to other people, and the other one does not.
Will all people be filed into one of these two groups now, or will it be more of a case-by-case basis in that regard, in which a member is put into one or the other based on severity of offense?

...and if that sounded overly complicated and you want me to clarify, I will.

Edit:ninja'd.

Everyone is thrown in the permabanned group (where no communication is allowed).
mm, okay. That's what I'd assumed, but I wasn't sure myself; thanks for the clarification.
