NFL Discussion Topic - Favorite Teams and How They are Doing

Romo's basically this generations Danny White for Cowboys fans, but at least Danny White showed he could win in the playoffs and got Dallas to three straight NFC Championships a few years before they tanked.

Romo just has one playoff win to his name, against Philadelphia in 2010.

And that does make him a under-achiever. But, still not the worst quarterback of this era.

Tony Romo is a fine quarterback that post solid numbers every year, such as last year having over 4,900 yards with 28 touchdowns while completing 65% of his passes. He just turns over the ball too many times, 20+ last year and lacks the intangablies from seperating him from being a "good" quarterback to a great one. He needs a stronger supporting cast to succeed like the power running game he had in the years the Cowboys went to the playoffs. He's not good enough to do it on his own unlike the elite in the league (Brady, Greater/Lesser Manning, Rodgers, and Brees).

But alas, I need Romo memes too.

I agree, but he had both DeMarrco Murray and the other guy whose name slips my mind at the moment. They both put up some staggering numbers last year. I felt it was more of his pocket sense. That why he threw all the picks, because he is bad with pressure. At least thats what I saw when 2+ guys were running at him. He just tossed it in the air.

All DeMarco Murray needs to do is to stay healthy. If he's healthy, it alleviates some pressure off of Romo and it doesn't force him to continually pass the football deep down field.

Regarding DeMarco Murray, he should be fine. He has the ability to stay healthy, and now he has a fresh second man in Lance Dunbar and big FB Larwence Vickers.

I'm not sure about the situation regarding Lawrence Vickers, I don't know if Dallas has re-signed him yet.

And, Dallas does most of their runs from the Singleback and Shotgun formations, rendering the FB position useless.

The previous FB, Chris Gronkowski had like 1 or 2 catches to his name (and 1 TD) and no attempted runs. Dallas barely uses their Fullback outside of the occasional blocking scheme.

The fullback position might be useless for them, but not for all teams. Some coaches don't want to take advantages of plays that haven't been used for awhile, and that no ones expecting. It might be a risk, but for me, its a risk worth taking.

Look at the 2007 Pats. They took advantage of it back in 2007, and came 3 superbowls in 4 years, thanks to extra blocking.

The last time they used their Fullback "religiously" was when Daryl "The Moose" Johnston lined up behind Aikman and opened up so many holes for Emmitt Smith down there.

Emmitt gave a lot of praise to Moose for making all those holes he ran through for all those years.

Agreed completely, so why can't they take advantage of it again? To big of a risk? Or they couls at least use some TE on some outside blocking.

I don't see Dallas using a blocking TE, because they're going to more of a receiving TE, like Jason Witten.

I'm not sure about the risk, maybe because the running back situation has been a little murky for the past few years, and they don't feel confident running the ball consistently?

No idea.

James Hannah is the #2 TE, but Dallas doesn't often use 2 TE sets.

I think they often used John Phillips as a pseudo-fullback from time to time, but he's now in San Diego, so I assume Hannah will slip into that role from time to time.

NFL.com gave the pick a 68.7. I'm more suprised Tavon Austin got picked so high, probably for future trade purposes.

The Rams desperately needed someone for Bradford to throw to and they got him. I like the pick; Austin is an explosive talent. Let's just hope he can stay healthy, unlike Amendola.

As we approach the end of the first round, Geno Smith is still waiting to be selected.

And once again Dallas traded their 1st round pick (which ended up to be Reid) to the 49ers.

Way to go Jones (at least we got a center with the 31st pick).

Then again most of the good picks are in the later rounds anyways (hoping for some more O Line and D Line help).

Highly doubt my Boys will end up getting Geno Smith (knowing Jones he's bound to mess up the pick).

I think the Cowboys reached for their pick. Granted, offensive linemen were flying off the boards, but still; not good value while other teams were getting players like Jarvis Jones and Star Lotulelei in the mid-first round.

The Saints had a bad need for the safety position, and I was very pleased when they picked Kenny Vaccaro. I was also very surprised that the Bills picked EJ Manuel instead of Geno Smith, because in college EJ Manuel threw a lot of interceptions.

I can say it's a reach, but the Giants and Bears also reached for their O-Linemen picks too. Travis Frederick is still a better athlete then either Phil Costa or Ryan Cook.
