Playthrough Nuzlocke 2: Black in Time

The randomized results are in! They are:

Relic Castle: Gastly
Chargestone Cave: Voltorb
Route 18: Nincada

However! If your choice wasn't picked, don't be sad! The rifts for Icirrus Moor and Victory Road are still open, and most of the Pokemon suggested for the 3 most recent areas would still fit in there!

I'll probably have another update soon, so stay tuned!

aw poop, no metang.

Victory Road: Shelgon
Icirrus Moor: Regigigas Eevee

I think Route 7 would be a good place for a rift to form. If so, Nuzleaf or Ambipom

Hey, I forgot my ideas. :D
  • Victory Road - Bagon/Shelgon or Sableye
  • Moor of Icirrus - Politoed or Lombre

Yeah, agreed.

Okay, so, bad news.

In about an hour, like I said earlier, I'm leaving for Greece. That means no updates for about 10 to 11 days. However, I promise, I will update as soon as I get back.

In other news, yes, Route 7 does sound like a good place for a rift. Seriously, it's one of the most forgettable routes ever.

aww boo-hoo. no new updates, that sucks.

Thanks for considering route 7 for a rift. I knew it was a good idea!

Victory Road: Ursaring, Onix, Lairon

Route 7: Persian, Aipom, Mightyena

Moor of Icirrus: Yanma, Croagunk, Murkrow

Vacation was fun, but now it's time to get back to the schedule!
First of all, I'm going to be picking the Route 7 pokemon soon. Here are the options suggested so far:

Nuzleaf
Ambipom/Aipom
Persian
Mightyena

Once again, if you want another Pokemon in there, say so!
After a change of clothing and a quick lunch, I continued on into Route 4, a path ravaged by sandstorms. It had once been home to one of the most advanced civilizations ever; now, all that remained was part of a castle sticking up out of the desert. Coincidentally, that castle was where I was headed. There had been rumors of a new rift forming there, so I had to check it out. The path toward said castle was just a short walk off the path, so it wasn't too much trouble. I caught a Sandile named Gaius on the way there. At the inside of the castle, there was a sign saying, 'DANGER: RIFT OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN. DO NOT ENTER'. There was a space surrounded by a barricade, so I knew what had to be there. I released Inigo from his Pokeball.
"All right, Inigo. We don't know what's going to happen, so be ready for anything."
"Right."
I looked across the barricade, and, sure enough, there was a gaping, swirling vortex in the floor.
"Looks pretty cool, eh?"
"Yeah, it sure does- wait, who are you?!" I spun around, and came face-to-face with a Gastly.
"Did I scare you? Oh, so sorry about that. Name's Henry."
"Yeah, he kinda just showed up out of nowhere."
"Nya hah! Oh, I just love doing that. Scares the wits out of people!"
"Wait, but didn't you just say... never mind. I guess you came here through the rift?"
"Yup! At first I thought I was in a HOLE lot of trouble, but I actually kinda like it here!"
"Well then, I should probably catch you."
"Black, you can't be serious. This guy is a complete wacko!"
"I dunno, I think he's kinda funny. Welcome aboard, Henry!"
Sorry the update was so short and lame, I was just really lazy. Maybe I'll have a better one later.

This update is only slightly longer, but this time it has the excuse that it is mostly just used for exposition and what not.
Recently, there had been sightings of Team Plasma in Nimbasa City, so I decided to see what was going on. I searched at the Pokemon Center, the theatre, the subway system, everywhere. I eventually realized that they were probably at the famous Nimbasa Amusement Park, where they could easily blend in. And I was right. I eventually found a cluster of Team Plasma grunts near the Ferris Wheel. At the front of the group was none other than...
"N?! What are you doing here?!"
N shook his head.
"Honestly, I'm surprised that someone as smart as you hadn't figured it out by now." he said, "The truth is that I, N, am the king of Team Plasma."
"..Wow, that came out of nowhere."
"Shut up, you're killing the moment. Anyway, Pokemon are amazing creatures. They contain enough power to level the world. And yet, they spend most of their time stuck in Pokeballs, wasting away. I intend to free the Pokemon. And nobody, not even you, Black, will be able to stop me! Go, Sandile!"
"All right, then! Inigo, use Razor Shell!"
Inigo jumped forward and caught the lizard on its side with one of his shells. One of the combatants fell, and it wasn't Inigo.
"No! Go, Darumaka!"
Sending a Darumaka out was a poor choice on N's part, as Inigo was just able to repeat what he had done earlier.
"Scraggy, it's your turn!"
"Inigo, do you think you can handle this?"
"Think? I KNOW I can handle this."
Inigo used Razor Shell once again. The Scraggy was too sluggish to react, and was quickly knocked out.
"Time for my trump card! Go, Sigilyph!"
"Oh, poo poo. These things are tough. Go, Florina!"
It was an evenly matched fight. The Sigilyph attacked with Air Cutter, while Florina used Assurance. It was the age-old struggle, but in the end, Florina won.
"And STAY down!"
"Very nice," N said, "I assume that, at this point, you can understand your Pokemon?"
"Yes."
"That proves it, then. You are my opposite, the Hero of Truth. I shall be heading to the Pokemon League. Once I become Champion, everybody will be forced to release their Pokemon." He paused for a moment. "If your convictions are not strong enough, Black, you will never be able to defeat me." Using the last of its energy, the Sigilyph teleported N and the Plasma Grunts away.
"Well then." I said, "I'm dead meat."

Once again, a relatively short update, but that's only because it wouldn't mesh well with the next update (which may be up later today, not sure).
If I wanted to stop N, then had no time to lose. I had to get to the League first, and that meant getting all the Gym Badges. I had heard that the next gym was Electric-type, so I quickly grabbed Gaius the Sandile out of the box and started training. During that period, Roy, Leif, and Gaius all evolved into Simisear, Leavanny, and Krokorok (respectively). Afterwards, I decided it was time to challenge the gym.

---------------------------------------

"Let's get this battle started! Go, Emolgas!"
"Gaius, it's your turn! Use Crunch!" The Krokorok ran forward, jaws open wide.
"So long, suckers!" he yelled. Gaius caught one of the Emolgas in his mouth, and then threw it across the room. It crashed into the other Emolga, effectively performing a double knockout.
"Hah. What a cupcake." Suddenly, he froze in place, utterly paralyzed; the Emolga's Static ability had given him a discharge of electricity.
"Heh! Now you're finished! Go, Zebstrika!"
"No! I can't use Gaius, he's paralyzed, Inigo and Florina are weak to Electric-"
"Black, send me in!"
"Wha-Roy, just give me some time to think!"
"Just do it! I have a plan!"
"..All right."
Roy was sent onto the battlefield. Immediately, Zebstrika's blazing speed allowed for a first attack. It knocked Roy off balance, but he was quickly able to recover. He then responded by digging under the ground. With the Zebstrika confused as to where Roy would pop up, he attacked from the least expected spot. This repeated for a few minutes, but finally, Roy defeated his opponent.
"Congratulations, challenger! You now receive the Bolt Badge!"
Once again, my friends had carried the day. But more importantly, I was one step closer to stopping N's master plan.

At this point, it is about to become important that you have read my previous Nuzlocke, the link to which is in the first post. You do not have to read all of it, you just have to skim through the last page of stuff. But, in order to best understand what will be going on, you will need some of the information presented in there.

Also, the chapter is mostly just exposition.
Still in high spirits after the victory against Elesa, the team and I continued towards Route 5. Suddenly, from out of nowhere, Cheren appeared.
"Hay Black! We both have the Bolt Badge, so let's battle!"
"Oh, fine." For me, it was a flawless victory. For Cheren, it was another addition to his streak of defeats.
"Oh, what a bother this is. I shall have to train more."
"Heeey, you two! I'm Alder, the Unova Champion!"
"Umm, mister champion," I said, "I think your hair's on fire."
"I know, right? Took me yeeeaars to get it this way. Anyway, go battle those two little kids because I said so!"
"Little kids? This'll be easy, Black."
I frowned for a moment.
"If you've had the experience with kids that I've had, you would know that that isn't always the case. Let's get this over with. Go, Leif!"
That was how the battle began. The little kids sent out a Herdier each, Cheren sent out his Servine.
It all went smoothly. Servine and Leif's combined efforts were able to take down one Herdier with ease, and the other was halfway to defeat. That was when things changed from good to bad, then from bad to worse.
"Herdier!" the little girl called, "Use Take Down!"
The dog charged at Leif. My Leavanny was unable to react in time, and got hit. The Herdier knocked into him at a precise angle, at a precise moment, at a precise speed, literally tearing Leif's fragile bug body in two.

The upper part hit the ground with a soft thud.
What happened from then was a cacophony of voices and sounds. The only ones I could make out were Cheren saying, "Woah! What the-!", the little girl yelling, "Yaaay! I won!", and Gaius saying, "You... You'll pay for that!" In fact, it seemed like I was the only one present who didn't say anything. Not out of shock, but out of pain. My head felt like it was being simultaneously torn apart, shattered, and smashed. I couldn't even scream. The last thing I saw before I blacked out was Gaius throwing the Herdier against the pavement.

I wasn't entirely unconscious. I was seeing things. My subconscious seemed to be telling me a story. It was the story of a young boy, just like me, leaving home with nothing but a Snivy, some eggs, and some money. He had good times, he had hard times. Just like me, some of his Pokemon died in battle. But eventually, he saved the world and went on to become Champion. But then, in some sort of a freak accident, he disappeared without a trace. That boy's name was Locke. The story seemed all too real.
Then, I realized something.
That boy was me.
What had happened? All I remembered was that I became Champion, I was sucked into some sort of vortex, and then I was chosen by Juniper to investigate the rifts.
I came to another realization. There had to be some sort of a connection between the rift that brought me here and the rifts that I was investigating. More research was needed.
Questions floated around in my mind like sea foam. Why was I in the past? Why had my memory been erased? Why am I only remembering this now? Why...
"-ck, wa-- up!"
Somebody was calling out to me.
"Wake up, Black!"
It was Inigo.
Suddenly, I did wake up. I was in exactly the position I had fallen down in before. It had only been a few minutes. Inigo and Cheren were standing over me.
"Are you okay? You gave us a real scare there. Your Leavanny..."
"..yeah, I know."
"I'm so sorry, Black."
Black? My name was... no, I can't tell anybody yet. 'Black' will have to do for now.
"...Where's the body? We need to bury.."
"Don't worry, Black." Inigo said, "Yarne and Gaius are already working on that."
"..Good. Let's go back to the Pokemon center."
...
The team right now:
Inigo/Dewott
Roy/Simisear
Florina/Swoobat
Yarne/Linoone
Gaius/Krokorok
Leif's death was a real 'Oh, come ON' moment. Seriously, the one thing that could kill him at that point was a critical Take Down. And guess what happens.

Also, plooot.

Reggie McGigas said:
oooooh plot twist, this gets intresting!

Just so you know, muuch later in the story, I have plans for another, even bigger plot twist. Just saying.

I couldn't let Leif's untimely demise get to me. I had to stay strong. Knowing that I had to have another team member, I took Henry the Gastly out of the box.
"Hey guys, what's up?" He immediately noticed that a team member was missing and that there was a universally somber look on our faces.
"Oh, that Leavanny - aw man, bummer."
"Bummer?!" Yarne exclaimed, "One of our friends just got ripped in half, and all you can say is bummer?!"
"Ripped in half? Cool! I sure wish I had been there!" He laughed manically for about ten seconds.
"Buuuut, anywhoo, would ya feel better if I cursed the guy that killed him?"
"Curse?" I said, "What do you mean, curse?"
"Well, back in Kanto, I was classified as a wizard, so different kinds of spells and hexes are kinda in the job description. So, what would you like me to do to the guy? Runny nose? Slow, painful death over the course of a year? Make him vomit Slugmas? That last one's my personal favorite." He laughed manically again.
"Er, let's just skip the curses for now, Henry."
"Oh? All right, suit yourself."

-AND THEN, THERE WAS A HUGE TRAINING SESSION, DURING WHICH HENRY EVOLVED INTO HAUNTER.-

With that out of the way, we continued towards Driftveil City. We took a much-needed rest stop there, and set out towards Chargestone Cave, where, supposedly, I could find yet another rift. On the way there, we caught a Deerling named Stahl. We also defeated tons of trainers on the way there. After the team and I finally reached the cave's entrance, I discovered an unlikely barricade.
"What?! A spiderweb? Roy, burn it."
"Sorry, Black, no can do." he said, "This is a Galvantula web. Galvantulas make their webs super-strong and heatproof. You'd need a bulldozer to knock this thing over."
"Roy, how are you suddenly an expert on Galvantulas?"
"You don't know everything about me."
"Aagh, let's just head back to the Pokemon center."

---------------------------

"Hey, Black. Could I talk to you for a second?"
"Sure, Yarne. What is it?"
"Well," he said, "I've been doing some thinking, and, well..."
"Yeah? What?"
"I want you to switch me out. Put me in the PC."
"Wha- Yarne, do you even know what you're saying?"
"Yes, I do. Leif's death made me realize that the journey isn't going to get any easier. I'd just be a burden to you."
"Yarne..."
"I'm sorry, Black. Don't worry. If you need me, I'll be here."
"..Okay, fine." Now, once again, we needed a new team member.
Yeah, I boxed Yarne. Things are going to get tougher fast, and I'm not sure I'd be able to keep him alive. But, like he said, if I need him, he'll be there.

Sorry I didn't keep with my schedule and update yesterday, I was just being lazy.
Once again, there were sightings of Team Plasma in and around Driftveil City. They seemed to be pretty much everywhere. Even two years later, I recalled, this wouldn't change. I knew that, in order for the correct timeline to be preserved, I had to take down Team Plasma. This gave me an even bigger incentive to defeat N.
Within a few hours, my Pokemon and I had searched most of the town with no luck whatsoever. The only place left to search was the Cold Storage, so, by process of elimination, if Team Plasma hadn't left the town, they would be in here.

---------------------------------------

Inside a storage container full of ice blocks, Team Plasma goons were freezing.
"Br-rr-rr! This is so cold! Commander Zinzolin, why did you bring us here?! Why couldn't we hide out at a country club somewhere?"
"Mrrmp mm, mmphomi mrrph mmmrmph!" The response was incomprehensible because the commander's mouth was frozen shut. If it had been open, he would've clearly said, "Shut up, I actually like the cold!"
I jumped in, yelling, "Freeze!"
"Y-y-yeah," a near-frozen grunt said, "W-way ah-head of y-you..."

---------------------------------------

"Ya did good, kid," The gym leader and mayor, Clay, said, "However, we had to let 'em go."
"Oh, come on!" Now, I really looked forward to defeating this guy. But first, I had to train.

~One Training Montage Later~

"Ah, so ya made it through the elevators, did ya? Well then, let's try this on for size! Go, Krokorok!"
"Inigo! Water Pulse!"
Inigo ran forward. Excess molecules of water came together between his hands, forming a massive water droplet. Inigo then shoved this great sphere of water down on Krokorok's head, leading to an instant knock-out and an impressive slam dunk.
"Rrrgh! Go, Palpitoad!"
"Stahl, this is your chance!" After Yarne leaving the team, I decided it would be a good idea to bring Stahl the Deerling. After no small amount of training, he had blossomed into a magnificent Sawsbuck.
Stahl charged up an Energy Ball, which he sent flying across the room and directly into the Palpitoad.
"Now, it's time for Excadrill! Yee-haw!"
"Stahl, finish up with Jump Kick!"
As the name of the attack implied, Stahl jumped into the air. Only a few moments later, his hoof collided with Excadrill's skull. The mole hit the ground with a clunk.
I had won the Quake Badge.
The team right now:
Inigo/Dewott
Roy/Simisear
Florina/Swoobat
Gaius/Krokorok
Henry/Haunter
Stahl/Sawsbuck

I just generated the pick for Route 7, and, well...
..all I'll say is that the random number generator I'm using hates me.
Once we had gotten back to Chargestone Cave's entrance, the spiderweb that had blocked it off had been knocked down by someone, or something. Regardless, I walked in, hoping to find more information on the rift that was inside. It was supposed to only be a few meters from the entrance, but I looked around and saw nothing.
"Urrgh, where could it be?"
"Uhh, hey, Black? Look up."
I looked up and, there it was, yet another very big, very black hole.
Suddenly, a medium-sized Voltorb fell out of said hole. Clearly damaged from landing, it started to glow and spark.
"DEAR ARCEUS IT'S GONNA SELFDESTRUCT YOU GOTTA CATCH IT NOW!!!!"
I fumbled around in my bag for the first Pokeball I could find, threw it, and luckily hit the Voltorb dead on. The Pokeball wobbled once, twice, three times, and then with a Ping! it sealed itself shut, effectively shutting off a bomb.
"Phew! That was close."

-------------------------------

There seemed to be no more information on rifts there than I already had. However, there did seem to be a lot of Team Plasma grunts lurking around. They seemed to be searching for something, but I didn't know what. Even after I defeated most of them, there were still no answers. Finally, I came to the end of the cave, and still had no information.
"Looking for something?"
I turned around and, unsurprisingly, was faced by N.
"Yes, as a matter of fact, I am. Why are your soldiers in this cave?"
"Simple. There are rumors that a legendary artifact I seek, the Dark Stone, is hidden here. However, from what I have seen so far, those rumors are false. I suppose that, for now, I shall just have to test your skill."
"If it's a battle you want, it's a battle you'll get!"

{The following battle has been removed from this program for excess blood and gore.}

"Very well," N said, "You have won. And now..." Three black-clad ninjas suddenly appeared around him.
"I take my leave." And with that, the ninjas and N vanished.

Reggie McGigas said:
Lemme guess: you got Apiom.

don't worry just say it picked something cool like shiftry or zoura

Well, it's not exactly BAD, it's just that it's completely outclassed in every way by another Pokemon who I currently have on the team.
In any case, for now, I'll take my punishment (it's called the Nuzlocke CHALLENGE after all), but if enough people say it's okay, I may end up changing it.

In the middle of a grove just off Route 7, there was a rift, just like all the ones before it. From out of the rift climbed a Mightyena. It shook its fur as if it had been soaked in water, then was immediately zapped and absorbed by a beam of red light.
"Hmm..." I said, holding up the Pokeball it was caught in, "I think I'll call you Sedgar."

---------------------------

The next gym I would face was Flying type. My team had no major advantage, so I decided to take a precaution and withdraw the Voltorb I had caught earlier.
"Unit RICK fully operational." the orb buzzed.
"Umm, okay 'Rick', you're kinda underleveled, so I'm going to go train you for a bit."

~And train we did.~

During the training period, Rick wasn't the only one to evolve. Inigo finally evolved into a Samurott, while Henry evolved into a Gengar. In addition, Gaius was very close to his point of evolution. At this point, I decided to challenge the Mistralton Gym.
_________________

Inside the Gym Building, several platforms were hanging from the ceiling. The twist? Being shot out of giant cannons were the only way onto those platforms.
"Wow. That is certainly not OSHA compliant. Rick... Start preparing your Electro Ball attack. I have an idea."
I quickly pulled an absurdly long golf club out of my bag and started making calculations.
"Let's see, if I hit him from this angle, he should bounce over there, then over there, putting him on exactly the right path to... yes, that's perfect. Rick, hold still."
"Sensors indicate that this is not a very good idea. There is a 74.2 percent chance of failure."
"Oh, don't you worry. I've got this all worked out." I raised my golf club high in the air and shouted, "Fore!" In an instant, I hit Rick with the club, sending him crashing across the room, bouncing off of every wall and ramming into every bird in his path, which happened to be every bird in the building. Eventually he fell down from the ceiling relatively unharmed, a Jet Badge magnetized to him.
"Never do that again."
"Fine, I guess."
I stopped to think about what I had just done. Should I have really been able to calculate all of that? I mean, sure, I'd always thought I was kind of smart, but I had never learned about things like this. How could I have known the correct formulas?

Hmm. Oh well, no use questioning it now.
The team (on rotation):
Inigo/Samurott
Roy/Simisear
Florina/Swoobat
Gaius/Krokorok
Henry/Gengar
Stahl/Sawsbuck
Rick/Electrode
Skyla's gym was really just too easy. It was just Rick KOing everything with Electro Ball.

Also, things not covered: Celestial Tower.

Ah, what's better than coming home from vacation, sitting down and reading Dialkia's epic nuzlocke? xD

Noooo, Leif! D:

As I walked towards Twist Mountain, my eyes came upon an all-too-familiar sight - the sight of my rival, Cheren.
"Cheren, you're not going to try to battle me, are you?"
"No, no, of course not! I mean, I totally would, but you would just beat me mercilessly. What I really wanted to do was give you this HM for Surf! Have fun!" He ran away for no apparent reason.
"Hmm... Inigo, let's put this to good use. To Route 18!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Route 18: a rocky, rough, desolate island protected by fierce ocean currents. And yet, despite that, life thrived here. A Nincada burrowed up from under the ground, completely unaware that it had been transported here by a subterranean rift during hibernation. It was immediately snatched up by a Net Ball that I threw. I continued on my path as if nothing had happened. Eventually, down in a crevice in one of the rocks by the beach, I came across something unusual: an egg.
"Now what's this doing here?"
"It seems to be waiting to become an omelette."
"You're a riot, Inigo. Rick, you've got internet access, right? See if you can find out why this is here."
"Connecting to internet... It seems that it was Volcarona breeding season last month. This egg must be the only one not to have hatched."
"Well, we can't just leave it here. One of those Scraggy up on the hill over there might get it. Besides, Volcarona are really powerful, it would be a shame to miss out on this chance! Although..." My thoughts drifted back to the Volcarona who would meet a grizzly end against an Audino 2 years from now because I wouldn't be smart enough to switch it out.
"What is it?"
"...it's nothing. C'mon, let's go."
I quickly walked away, nestling the egg in my arms. I was barely able to here Inigo whisper, "Doesn't it seem like Black's trying to hide something?"
In return, I heard Rick whisper, "Maybe. But for now, perhaps it would be best to just let it be."
The team (on rotation):
Inigo/Samurott
Roy/Simisear
Florina/Swoobat
Gaius/Krokorok
Henry/Gengar
Stahl/Sawsbuck
Rick/Electrode
Egg
