Official States Discussion Thread

Okay, up to this point, I have seen a bunch of lowish ratings for Rampardos.
1. Fossils can't be affected by special conditions so there goes a T1 donk by Toxicroak.
2. Kingdra and Rampardos have the same speed only Rampardos has less demand (hand wise) and can focus on just attacking vs. having to discard 2 energy every turn. That of course results in needing Claydol.
I personally think that 75% of the State Provence Territory tourneys are going to be won by Rampardos.

No, the deck is terrible, yeah you might steal a donk here and there but that's about it.
A good T-Tar we will even knock down a Ramparados
 
I don't know the quality of the deck, but I almost beat a Rampardos. It came down to the last prize, when I hadn't gotten out my Drapion till midgame. He killed my Drapion for the win.

I'm not sure how good the deck was, but because of it I'd place Rampardos a place or two lower and Drapion a little higher. More testing results tomorrow. :D
 
Rampardos is only 25, not 75.

Yeah, Rampardos is overhyped. But check this out, it shoots itself in the head.

I kill it and block you. It can win States if you have the right strategy. Not straight forward or it is fail.
 
Rampardos is a more solid, but not as nifty version of Kingdra. It takes backlash from a KO, but it doesn't rely on a 2-discard every turn. They're pretty even, but Kingdra has Aqua Stream and can snipe a benched basic twice, then Crobat G it, or snipe a main threat twice then a few PlusPowers/Crobat G's to one-shot it, etc.
 
I see Kingdra having better results at S/P/T than Rampardos donk.

Kingdra will win again if it doesn't run into T1 Turtwig.
 
If Rampardos wins States, it's only because of the donks. I'd say it's going to take about half of them. Another part Kingdra and another part Shaymin Lv.X.

I agree that Rampardos does need to have some donking in the begining to win, but doesnt all the other speed decks too??? Yeah, you can use Aqua stream with Kingdra, but without Claydol, it is too hard to keep up the beat. IMO, a good Rampardos deck wont need to win on the 2nd or 3rd turn (although it is preffered). There are ways to get rid of the backlash from Head Smash. For instance, TMTS2, you can use Head Smash and then de-evolute the higher stage for a KO (if it was Candied or not). Also, Rampardos's second attack decreases the damage by 20 untill the end of your turn so you can use a Pluspower and then use the second attack and do 50, then next turn you can attack for the 80 and only do 20 damage to your self along with the reduced damage from the opponents attack. All of these are just for evolutions, but still. You are just going to have to deal with the 40 to your self when attacking basics. However, considering the past 20 battles I have done, my opponent only had 1 or 2 basics so it didnt even matter as it is. You only need to worry about the backlash during mid and late game, and as I said before, there are ways to get around that. Have I convinced anyone yet???
 
Nope, you have not convinced me.

I am smarter than that against Rampardos. Even My BlastCatty V6 is faster than T1 Rampardos donk.

Unless you have extreme draw power and extreme control power.

Rampardos can win States if you play it smart and extremely fast swarm.

I'm calling shananagans on that. My rampardos list gets t1 rampardos when going 2nd 90+% of the time. I would love to see a t2 blastiose powered up and attacking. :/
 
^^ Agreed. I am glad that a few people understand what I am saying. My deck is the same way with the 90% deal. I have done a bunch of studying and this is the deck that I think will do best in States.
 
Rampardos may do extremely well at states (probably) but what about mirror matches, that match all really depends on luck more that skill and who goes 2nd is a big factor as well. If Rampardos is going to be so big then there is no doubt that you won't run into another Rampardos deck

Which is why i have given up on the Rampardos deck. im switching to infertran. Yeah it's flippy but with a little luck i can one shot anything with less than 160 HP if can't, i will just use rage to finish you off
 
So you'd rather get a Heatran LV. X going as well as an Infernape vs. Rampardos or Amphy instead of risking a bit of the luck factor in the mirror? I'd say that a well-built Ramp deck can win any mirror match.
 
Dudes, and Dudettes. Ladies and gents. Boys and girls.

Today in Honors Geometry, I was deciding what deck to play.

I really like:

GLOX (Gengar lock)
Kingdra
Infertran
Giratina + Togekiss + Absol

And I was thinking how it matched up against all decks.


I have noticed that people compare EVERY SINGLE DECK to how well Rampardos runs. How fast, damaging, and skilled it is.

I figure if it is so good, which it is, to play rampardos. Sounds simple right?

But I think for me it is GLOX (CONTENDER!)/Rampardos/Giratina....whichever is the best in testing. Which one to play?

Guess what? I hate him. :D

I prefer 30 poison and 100 with Energy discard. That kills most pokes. The only exceptions are:

-Rhyperior Lv. X
-Regigigas Lv. X
-{G} with shaymin
-TTar
and Armaldo.

Since most of those are rogue, I'm happy. :D

Any proof to back that up?
80 for 1 is great and all, but Kingdra does 60-20 for one too you know, and it fuels another attack that a certain card has (Kingdra).

Not to mention Ramparados is incredibly frail after it looses a fossil or two, it's just harder to get them back compared to regular Pokemon (Supporter v Night Maintenance). And 80 for 1 won't cut it when Torterra is OHKOing you anyway, Kingdra will rack up some KO's on you too, a good T-Tar will beat you, I think your only positive match up is well...Gigas. But actually Gigas can win Ramparados too...
