Good idea. Besides, I can see the card fine as is.

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card October 2013!

*phew* almost lost the deadline

I tried another set this time and we'll see if I pulled this off (probably not lolol)

Poke-POWER Swirling Darkness
Once during turn (before your attack), when you put Pangoro {G} LV.X from your hand onto your Active Pangoro {G}, this Power does 20 damage to each of your opponent's SP Pokemon.(Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokemon.)

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card October 2013!

Going to assume that's the G for Galactic, not Grass.

And yeah, last night was the deadline. Aren't you glad I extended it a day? Alexander's entry is the last one in. Now CMP and I will get to work judging these entries and getting the next month ready.

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card October 2013!

I just remembered I completely forgot to do my half of the judging. >_<
Tomorrow, I promise.

I need to harass CMP for spelling 'Arctic' wrong every month. But first, I must flagellate myself accordingly for missing the end-of-month deadline.

Ah, a Darkrai. As expected, of course, based on theme. Fitting HP and Energy costs for a Darkrai-EX. The attacks are good, fitting for a Darkrai card, but neither stand out. Not necessarily a bad thing, by any means, but we’ve all seen cards with Nasty Plot (although this version is a little more risky, albeit potentially more rewarding). It pairs well with the second attack, though I would slightly decrease the additional damage…even for an EX card with the risk of discarding all Energy, a total of 150 seems a little steep (for comparison’s sake, Raikou-EX does 100 damage with an all-Energy discard). I know Landorus-EX has the same attack, but wow it's pretty ridiculous. I will point out, though, that you reused attacks from Rayquaza and Landorus. A hit on Originality. Wording checks out fine! Placement looks pretty good, too, though I’d suggest moving the effect a few pixels to the left (to line up with the W/R/RC bar), with the Energy cost a pixel or two to the left of that. The Fighting symbol (and x2) needs to be a little more centered between the Weakness and RC bar). Otherwise, though, it looks good. Also (and I know it’s hard to avoid), try to keep the effects from overlapping the main features of the blank (copyright, Weakness, Retreat Cost, EX rule box). These effects are merely meant to supplement the Pokémon, not be the focus. Aside from that, though, a solid entry!

Using your own Fakemon – very, very cool! For the ex-era, 140 HP is a little high (even the legendary * cards only had around 90 HP). The Poké-Power’s wording is a little off, though, and should be, “Once during your turn, when you put Aquagon * from your hand onto your Bench,” In addition, “Place” should be “Put.” Ocean Void’s wording checks out okay, though! The right edge of the “70” in the damage should line up with the right part of the text box, with the plus symbol smaller, more bolded, and with the bottoms lined up (see Banette-ex for an example). Unfortunately, though, it also looks like the symbols you’re using are incorrect – they’re a little too small (that goes for both the Energy cost as well as the W/R/RC). The W/R symbols need to be moved up a few pixels as well. Just minor things, but they can add up. I loved seeing an original Fakemon, though – great work this month!

shinytyranitar_zps1db7a790.png

Third entry judged and third super Pokémon (thankfully you guys chose different types to do)! :p Well done recoloring the art – nearly impossible to tell. As you know, I’m a sucker for new gimmicks, including markers. Despair markers are a very interesting twist, too. Although it would be nice to see that card that puts the Despair marker on the Pokémon haha…I still dig the setup, though. Wording seems to be fine across the board. Placement generally looks fine, although I’d suggest lining up the Ability/attack effect with the gold bar above the W/R. Also a very minor thing, but since you went through the trouble of changing the flavor text to accurately reflect the official shiny text, it would’ve been nice to see the formatting all of the official cards use (“This extremely rare Pokémon is / a different color than usual. It is / very hard to find.”). The Darkness symbol is a little hard to see in the background, so lightening it just a little bit could be beneficial. A beautiful card nonetheless!

Delta:
4rp9gw.png

Delta’s back in the game! And with a classic series blank (and your own artwork)! Looks very nice, though I’m not sure what’s going on with the very faint holo over the whole image section…regardless, HP/W/R/RC all make sense. In the length/weight box, it should be noted that classic/Neo-series didn’t use any zeros, so the length should be listed as “4’ 7’’,” The text box in Barrage Headbutt could be extended some to the right, and the damage could be moved a few pixels to the right as well (see Jungle Exeggutor for some placement ideas). Memory Retain should be worded, “Remove all damage counters and discard all Energy cards attached to Zweilous. Then, search your deck for a card that evolves from Zweilous and attach that card to Zweilous. This counts as evolving Zweilous. Shuffle your deck afterward. Whenever the Evolved Pokémon attacks, it can use any attack from its Basic Pokémon card or any Evolution card attached to it. It still has to pay for that attack’s Energy cost.” A mouthful for sure! The symbol placement looks good, although there seems to be a larger than necessary gap between the two Colorless symbols in the RC. In the Pokédex entry, there should be an additional space separating the level from the entry and the number, but these are relatively minor. I’m glad you were able to submit an entry this month, Delta – it turned out great!

Darkraiex.png

Ah, a Darkrai-ex (as opposed to Darkrai-EX). Older is always fun to do! Upon first glace, card looks beautiful – proper HP, good damage output…basically, very fitting for the era. Great placement (especially on the Poké-Power symbol, where a common mistake is made lining it up with the circles). Wording was near perfect, but you must remember to always capitalize “Active” in “Active Pokémon.” Additionally, a comma is needed after “Active Pokémon.” Otherwise, wording checks out. Interesting attack (an effect not seen on too many cards). Weakness and RC symbols should be moved up a few pixels, and I think with Darkrai’s HP/damage output, [C][C] would be a more realistic RC. Overall, a very solid effort (just try not to miss those little things)!

Once again, Noddeh shows great creativity! I love the concept of representing dual-types in a whole new way. In the little rule, though, I would capitalize Weakness and Resistance (and probably put a period on the end, too). First attack is good – nice damage with a 50% drawback, and the second attack is well, an attack. :p Placement and fonts look good, although the RC looks a little too spaced apart. Otherwise, a very beautiful and creative entry!

Dat art…yikes. Although it does go well with the Ability, I’ll give you that. Speaking of the Ability, you’ve made another well executed creative one this month, PMJ. As you mentioned, the way it works is a great representation of it being a priority move in-game. Moonlight Dream is a perfect way to reflect Umbreon’s relation to moonlight with the fact that moonlight is now Fairy domain. Nice damage output for the cost, and the healing is a great added bonus. Interesting choice of resistance, something I can’t recall seeing (although perfectly acceptable). Beautiful work (per usual)!

Another shiny Tyranitar…some of you must think alike! Not sure the rocks were necessary – they look slightly out of place, and not many of the original Pokémon-* cards featured anything similar. Pressure’s effect should read, “As long as Tyranitar * is in play, the attack cost of each of your opponent’s Active Pokémon is [C] more.” Delta Slayer is way too OP – instant KO without any setup/drawback? I’d give it a power of 30-40 and make the base damage double if the Defending Pokémon is a Delta species. Brute Force is also a little OP – remember, Pokémon-* cards weren’t necessarily known for being really powerful. As far as placement goes, it looks pretty good. However, make sure there is an identical gap between each of the Body/attack names and their effect text. Still a nice, solid entry, though!

From CMP:
As far as a wrap-up is concerned, congratulations are in order for each of you. You guys churn out quality work each and every month, so be proud of yourselves regardless of who wins!

However…each month is filled to the brim with ex, *, LV. X, EX, and shiny Pokémon. As you guys may or may not notice, I’m not blinded by the glitz and glam of these special cards. In fact, the winners are more often than not just regular versions. So, I’d like to offer a personal challenge: whatever the theme may be for next month, try to avoid these special Pokémon, and get by only on your own creativity regarding attacks/gimmicks. You don’t have to participate, of course, but I’d love to see what you can come up with!

I don't think, outside of Dragonite FB, that options to counter Pokemon-SP were really explored during their lifetime. Maybe it's because there were enough options in the format out there that they didn't need to. And even then, Dragonite was just another SP, so... but then again, so is Pangoro G here. I honestly like this - it's focused primarily on stopping Pokemon-SP, and pays little attention to anything else, but has more power to compensate for it. Well done.

What I should note is, if the power isn't optional, you don't even need the phrase 'this Power', and even so, 'power' would be lowercase. As for whether you write it SP Pokemon or Pokemon SP...it's Pokemon SP.

Shadow markers, hm? Fancy. You people really know how to please me with the new cards you keep creating. And I remember seeing a few attacks that got stronger (or at least different) when the target Pokemon already had the Special Condition on it.

Only main gripe that I have, which is the one I usually tend to have with CAC, is the wording. It could either be more concise, or the way they're worded on actual cards is different. Since the differences are subtle, I'll just give you how I'd probably see it worded:

"...you may put a Shadow marker on 1 of the Defending Pokémon. ....done to Dark Gengar by any Pokémon that have any Shadow markers on them." (though, the second bit I think could be left as is)

"Move a Shadow marker from 1 of the Defending Pokémon to 1 of his or her Benched Pokémon." (Always use numbers in these cases.)

"If the Defending Pokémon is already Poisoned, before doing damage, switch the Defending Pokémon with 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokémon, if any. If you do, the new Defending Pokémon is now Poisoned."

[D] [D] [C] Mob Attack - 20

Does 20 damage to each of your Opponent's Pokémon for each Murkrow and Honchkrow on your bench. (Don't apply Weakness and Resistance for Benched Pokémon.)

Weakness: Lightning (×2) Resistance: Fighting (-30) Retreat: 1

Flavour Text: If one utters a deep cry, many Murkrow gather quickly. For this, it is called "Summoner of Night."

Not surprisingly, since it's Darkness month, along comes a Honchkrow. And, much like Honchkrow MT, he has many minions. Unlike the last one, it seems to gain strength for each Murkrow in play, instead of sending Murkrow off to fight instead.

I can see what you're trying to do with Honcho's Gang, but we've already had a card that does that, so check its wording. As for Mob Attack...is the extra damage only to the Bench or what? I'm confused where it's going, so you could make that clearer. Oh, and 'opponent's' is never capitalized.

Well, it's not over-the-top (thankfully), but I'm still not sure how to score the Believability bit - mostly because I'm looking at the combination of Shady Aura and Shadow Punch. Though, 140 for 5 to the Active Pokemon isn't that outrageous, I suppose...though I don't think an EX would have an attack costing 5 Energy like that. So...I give it a 14, to be fair.

And as I told Four Arms, you want to put 'Each of this Pokémon's attacks' for the ability. But you also want to put apostrophes and commas in the text when appropriate, and I don't see very many of those. (Also, the ability would be before W&R, not after, since it's an effect on the attacker. Effects on the defender come after.)

Well, this is...interesting. I don't think I've seen an attack like Dark Pulse lately, though it can knock off a lot of Energy cards. Sure, it compensates for doing a lot less damage, but energy removal is big. Also, should it be discarding Energy, or Energy cards? There is a minor difference, though usually when they're discarded, it's cards. The first attack seems to be 'just there', but it has a cute name.

Oh, a Darkness Energy card, that Darkrai can swap with himself. I can definitely see what you're trying to do here - having Darkness Energy cards on your Bench to power attacks. Though, I'm not sure how you'd get more than 1 of those (for the second attack) unless you had multiple Darkrai. How to fix the wording is just...really really complicated, so I'll leave a comment on your wall about it shortly.

Finally the month of October is at an end, and with it, the darkness has lifted! and not a moment too soon.

For image-based, it was definitely a close call I can see - Nod3 and PMJ each hold the position of first place, tying with their Sharpedo and Adorable Umbreon respectively. Blui wasn't far behind, though - his shiny Tyranitar was most impressive! Though, truth be told, all of the entries we get for CAC are amazing, no matter how they end up scoring.

For text-based, I feel similar. I'm not sure if I was especially generous or what, but a lot of people got similar scores. In the end, it appears that Teal and his Hydreigon come out on top, scoring the ideal 50 points. As for second place, that is when I tend to have a lot of ties - Four Arms, Lemonnade, and Lvl 100 Bidoof all got second with 49 points, with a Liepard EX, a Rocket's Crawdaunt, and a candy-loving Spiritomb.

And that appears to bring the CAC closer to the end of the year! I have a few more things planned for the remaining months, but you'd best protect yourself for what I have planned for you next. I just need to do some small things and November CAC will be ready for you imminently! See you all soon!

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card October 2013!

Hey, I didn't participate last month. *cough* because I forgot *cough* That's enough of a ban, right?

Congratz.

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card October 2013!

Oh, don't worry - I have something special planned for Teal.

RE: PokéBeach Create-A-Card October 2013!

"Ooh. I got 49 points. Maybe I could win this time."

*scrolls down to Teals entry*

;-;

Tied for second is fine, too, I guess. Good job to everyone and all that gobblety-gook. On to next month!

I wanted to see if I could give you 50.
I couldn't. ;-;

I wanted to see if I could give Teal 49.
I couldn't do that either. ;-;

edit @KoN: kght
freaking Metagross
*tweaks score*

Oof. Bit off more than I could chew with that second attack. And to add insult to injury I forgot to clean up the corners. I guess I don't know how to make a card look good yet.

Dark Gengar 120HP [P/D]

[Stage 2] Evolves from Dark Haunter
(This Pokémon is both [P][D] type)

[Poké-POWER] : Shadow Bond
Once during your turn (before your attack), if Dark Gengar is your Active Pokémon, you may choose 1 of the Defending Pokémon and place a Shadow marker on that Pokémon. Prevent all effects of attacks, excluding damage, done to Dark Gengar by any Pokémon that has any Shadow markers on it. This power can't be used if Dark Gengar is affected by a Special Condition.

[P] Bond Share
Move a Shadow marker on one of your opponent's Active Pokémon to one of his or her Benched Pokémon.

[P][P][C] Poison Glare 50
The Defending Pokémon is now Poisoned. If the Defending Pokémon is already Poisoned, switch the Defending Pokémon with one of your opponent's Benched Pokémon before doing damage. The new Defending Pokémon is Poisoned instead. Ignore the effect of this attack if your opponent have no Benched Pokémon.

Shoot down by Wording. as expected. I though i'm already have memorized the wording in my heads rather than keep comparing with wide range of cards. i tend to pick just a couple of card as my base reference.. It was a fun round.

Probably I wouldn't be making any card with markers next month if the number of Fakers using markers increase.. haha.

Congratz to the winner

Can't wait to enter next round
