They also signed CJ Wilson, former Rangers ace, to a 5-year deal. With Morales expected to return to the line-up next season, and these two great acquisitions, the Angels would be projected by many to win the AL West.

Yeah, they fell flat on their faces. But, they're are going to some people or one person saying talking some smack and then the Angels will fold up like a tent.

That post was totally incoherent.
But yeah, games aren't played on paper. If one team shows more heart and hustle than the other, no matter the talent, the team who wants it more usually prevails (as we saw toward the end of the regular season and the whole postseason regarding the Cardinals).

And the Lakers also want Dwight Howard too. If LA can get both, they'll be favorites in the West running away from Dallas and OKC and favorites to win the whole thing running away from Dallas, Miami, OKC and Boston.

Well, hold on just a second. We were just talking about how "Dream Teams" don't work out sometimes. Yes, they will be favorites, and yes, they will have a bunch of people jumping on a bandwagon almost already full, but again, these games aren't played on paper.

Yes, a good bench is important, but sometimes a great starting 5 can overcome that shortcoming.

I think LA really needs to get Howard, I don't think Bynum is strong enough (with his injury prone body) to be the big man for the team. With just Paul and Kobe, they'll be good, but not good enough to win this year.

Not necessarily. Just ask the Heatles.
Anyway, the thing with Kobe is that he himself isn't exactly the healthiest guy around. All those rings came with a price of fatigue and several injuries. He can't afford to play heavy minutes every game until the finals unlike the heat where they are all young. Also, Lakers lost Shannon Brown to the Phoenix Suns.
