This thread is pretty ridiculous IMO. Any hobby/habit is going to cost you. Fortunately the Pokemon TCG is a high quality TCG with great artwork.

Collecting DVDs, figures, or other TCGs your thing? Cash.
Playing any instrument? Cash.
Hobbies= what your expendable cash is most likely going towards.
Spend your money on whatever makes you happy.

PS. I think I read somewhere that starting with B&W, booster packs will be slightly cheaper.
 
I don't think this topic has anything new to offer that hasn't already been said.

We are a Pokemon fan site. You made your point, thank you. Glad you found a place to voice your opinion. People here are going to disagree with you because this is (again) a Pokemon fan site.

@Everyone:
I am closing this thread. While some points on this post were eye opening, more points are argumentative not discussion worthy.
