Project Pokemon Shuffle - The Pokedex 2.0 Region Thread!

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

Pokebeach Fourms was down for me for almost the entire day once I got back from school, so sadly I missed out on doing some stuff :/

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

Yeah, the forum outage happened for most of the day, it was pretty awkward. But thankfully everything's back to normal, now.

This post includes an additional Elite Four member, so with 2 Gym Leaders and 2 Elite Four members left to join the crew, that leaves 4 slots that the remaining 8 types (Normal, Grass, Bug, Dragon, Dark, Ground, Psychic, and Fighting) will have to jockey for. Hopefully Dark won't fail to secure a gym slot once more.

As to the question of the secondary starter, I think there should be a secondary rival to get the secondary starter...possibly a stylish girl, like HGSS Sabrina.

Arioso Glassworks
Real-world Location: Aosta Valley
Resembles: Floaroma Town

Resting in a cleft in the Transbal Mountains, Arioso Glassworks rises above the rain shadow, appearing as a lush, rainy paradise within a dry, craggy set of mountains. The glassmakers discovered how to make a unique device that resonates with the power within Mega Stones, but fearing for the balance of power, entrusted the plans to the people of Frescourse City. The Pokémon Bellind makes its habitat here, floating in from other areas, attracted by the beautiful sound of the glassmakers' windchimes.

When you first enter the Glassworks, a Feracat runs up to you and expresses its affection. While that's happening, Josey runs up with her Feracat, and both Feracats run away and into the workshop. She asks if you're the one Marty gave the plans to, but instead of waiting around for an hour, she runs off after her Feracat.

Inside, one of the Feracats is curiously watching the kiln, while the other one is sprawled out comfortably next to the cooling trough. Inside, the two head glassmakers reveal that Josey is a member of the family who runs Arioso Glassworks, and ask if it's true that the seal on Mega Evolution is to be broken. Josey confirms that it's true, that Team Shadow is threatening the entire region, and Mega Evolution may be the only way to stop them. The two glassmakers understand, and, using the plans, forge a Mega Band for you. They mention that they intend to create more for trusted trainers across Baloncé, and to expect to see Mega Evolutions from now on.

Once the Mega Band is complete and safely fitted, Josey asks you to take back your Feracat, not realizing that it was a stray. Regardless of which one you choose, the other one is always hers. If you pick the one by the kiln, your Mega Band reacts, and it instantly evolves into Leoroar; if you pick the one by the trough, it evolves into Selilon. The Pokémon joins your party as the leading member, and you will be asked to move one of your Pokémon to the box.

When she retrieves her Feracat, the Mega Bangle she's been wearing all along reacts with her Feracat, turning it into whichever one of the two you didn't pick. She then challenges you to a battle to test out her new powers of Mega Evolution (you're allowed to use other Pokémon besides your Mega in this battle).

After the battle, she congratulates her on your use of Mega Evolution, and leaves to dig up new information on Mega Stones and Team Shadow. She now keeps her Leoroar or Selilon in a ball, instead of having it follow her like it did when it was Feracat.

One of the glassmakers is a happiness rater; whenever you show him a Pokémon with a happiness of 225 or higher, he gives you a Flute. You may do this once for each type of flute.

She tends to be rather informal with challengers, and is always amused that they have something in common: having defeated Trisha.

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

Loving what you guys have come up with; it's amazing how quickly a region can be designed when you've got so many talented people working on it!

That said, do you guy mind putting the sprites in spoiler tags? I have my forum settings to show more than the default number of posts per page, so it's making things lag up pretty bad. Thanks!

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

The quickness and quality of these updates is amazing; I'm really impressed you guys have made it this far with your imagination and some retyping. I can't wait to see the final product!

With that said, I do have a small suggestion. Remember that most gym leaders have four Pokemon and under. I'm counting four for several gym leaders, though Pryce was a 7th gym leader with only three Pokemon (if that brings some perspective into it). There are several other leaders that have threeish, which is fine, but I'm seeing a larger amount than usual. Maybe cut a couple leaders down one? :p

Good luck with the great work!

Wow...I was almost finished with this and then the page closed and reopened and I lost all my work ._.

Also, I think the game names should be called "Pokémon Dawn" for Purotenshi and "Pokémon Dusk" for Kuraskamai. I was also thinking about Pokémon Cream and Pokémon Crimson versions as well. Any other ideas?

Zalem City
Location: 26
Zalem City is the most corrupt and crime filled city in Baloncé. Recently, a large factory devoted to making and studying man-made Pokémon closed due to bankruptcy and has become a hideout for punk kids. The gym leader, Darwin, is rumored to be working with the notorious Team Shadow. However, reconstruction is going surprisingly well for Zalem City, and crime is dropping.

Areas of Intrest:
Zalem City Pokémon Gym- A Dark Type Pokémon Gym led by Darwin. He gives out the Night Badge when defeated.

Abandoned Factory- An abandoned factory that used to research and create man made Pokémon like Robopoke and Cybercore. However, bankruptcy has caused it to shut down. A group of punk kids, led by a man named Travis have made it their base. Their motives are unclear. However, they have had wars with Team Shadow in the past, so some people think that this group's intentions are good.

Well, we can't really have Dawn and Dusk because Digimon used those titles when they decided to make a pair of games modeled after the Pokémon formula. As fun as it is to have a pair, pairing doesn't really lend itself well to a fan project, because any methodology you use to create an actual game out of it - Essentials, ROM hacking, etc. - can't provide a true trade experience. For the title, I'd take a step back from the in-universe themes and look back at the core concept. It's like a Second Quest, the Majora's Mask to Pokémon's Ocarina of Time. All the characters are the same, but they've been shuffled. And that's why I'd call it...Pokémon Shuffle.

For another side note, I'd like to discuss HMs, because they've only been implied here or there. I'd like to return to an 8 HM system, but with a list that gives a bit more diversity in the types that get them:

HM01 - Rock Smash. Usable after obtaining the Gale Badge (1st). Rock Smash and Cut have always been nearly identical moves, one is just a reskin of the other. Since the opening sections are craggy and dry, this makes more sense than Cut.
HM02 - Fly. Usable after obtaining the ??? Badge (3rd). Some of the more recent games (Platinum, BW) have given out Fly sooner than traditionally. For me, a lot of the early parts of the game just feel like the thing you get through before obtaining Fly, so I'm for an early grant of it.
HM03 - Surf. Usable after obtaining the Spice Badge (2nd). Again, this is also somewhat earlier than traditional, but given the way the early game routes work, this is probably a more elegant solution than the Dewford Town option of skipping over those routes in a boat and coming back later (Which still remains true of parts of Route B3).
HM04 - Strength. Usable after obtaining the Tide Badge (5th). Completely ordinary, nothing to comment on here.
HM05 - Charge. Usable after obtaining the Plasma Badge (6th). The first of the two new-to-HM moves on this list. Useful for activating electrical devices and equipment - you could use it to turn on a conveyor belt, or move a truck. Acts as a new HM move for Electric- and Steel-types, to replace Flash.
HM06 - Incinerate. Usable after obtaining the Alloy Badge (4th). The other new HM move. Incinerate can do everything Cut can do, but also much more - light torches, light the wicks on explosives, and melt solid ice. I think it's both a good way to make Cut into a less lame move, and give Fire-types the ability to contribute an HM.
HM07 - Rock Climb. Usable after obtaining the Frost Badge (7th). Waterfall is often used to gate late-game areas and prevent them from being entered early. Rock Climb (from Gen IV) is a nearly identical concept, to the point that a waterfall can even have a Rock Climb point next to it, and Rock Climb can be placed in deserts and spots where there wouldn't be water. Waterfall is one of the competitively viable HM moves, but with Rock Smash and Incinerate deserting their TMs, it can easily be made a TM (that might unlock optional interactions with the environment, as Rock Smash does).
HM08 - Dive. Usable after obtaining the Night Badge (8th). Parts of the game (such as certain evolution paths) clearly suggest Dive is in the game, but the geography doesn't really require it to happen early.

Ancient Shrine
Location: Place 25
The Ancient Shrine is a shrine that worships a legendary Pokémon. It is also a small tourist stop, but it isn't as popular as places like Symmachine City due to its isolation from the rest of the region.

First Time Around
At Tries Castle, a tourist blocking the exit will tell you that he left his Camera at the Ancient Shrine. He says if you get it for him, he will give you a special item from the region that he comes from. This forces you to head to the Ancient Shrine.

You, your rival, and Travis meet up at the entrance. You walk into a group of Team Shadow Grunts guarding a secret entrance to an underground area. Defeat them and they will let your group in.

Extra Info: Floyd is the leader of Team Shadow. He has enlisted Casey, Darwin, and countless grunts to support his evil group. His primary goal is to catch Purotenshi, Kuraskamai, and Seikoshi and have complete control over the balance of Baloncé. He is ruthless and will do whatever it takes to get what he wants.

After the match, Floyd says he won't give up. He says he has already has Purotenshi and Kuraskami contained, and he lets you chose one to battle. He will take the other one and defeat you with it.

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

Man, look at you guys, with all this updating. I guess you're taking full advantage of Saturday to get a move on things around here?

I've got a few things I've started, but I guess I'd better get them up before those slots are gone:

Splitport Town
Real-World Location: Gibraltar
Resembles: Six Island
At the extreme southern end of Baloncé, this town barely avoids touching the next region over. It is known for two things: its boat dock, and its hotel, though at the beginning of the game, it's during the off-season, so neither is open. After gaining the Alloy Badge, tourists from all over flock here, making it much more lively.

Hotel Exparté
At the beginning of the game, only the lobby is available; the rest of the hotel is being prepared for the busy season. Once it opens up, a Berry salesman sets up shop in the lobby, and in one of the halls, a maid needs help lighting a stubborn candle - by helping her with Incinerate, she in exchange gives you 3 Roseli Berries.

Sunday
Shortly after gaining the Alloy Badge, Professor Willow will contact the player and ask them to meet an old friend here at the hotel. That old friend is Prism, a forgetful woman who often lapses into a variety of other languages. When you first meet her, Willow and Rival are also present. Despite her oddities, she is extremely knowledgeable, and describes one of the conditions for Purotenshi and Kuraskamai to reveal themselves to humans: the humans must present to them evidence that Baloncé has become unbalanced, and fears that Team Shadow is trying to create that evidence to lure them out.

Afterwards, Rival takes the opportunity of running into you to challenge you to a battle:

After leaving the town and returning, Prism's room will instead be occupied by one of seven NPCs - if it's Sunday, she appears, but on the other days, a combatant appears. When Prism appears again, she will tell a story about either Florilord, Terrilord, or Aerolord, granting the seen data for that Pokémon in the Pokédex (you can still capture them without obtaining this data). She no longer appears in this capacity after you've completed Another World, leaving the room vacant on Sundays.

And now, big, massive endgame plot thing. It should be noted, despite all the tie-ins, this isn't the sole endgame plot; you can catch Maragon and Mysteriguard without being on it, the plot just provides some clues for them:

Eventoil City
Real-World Location: Oslo/Morgedal
Resembles: Snowpoint City
During the time that Baloncé was divided, Eventoil City was named the host of West Baloncé's Pokémon League. At the time, it was a flourishing city, the most prosperous in the northern islands. After reunification, it and its eastern counterpart rotated every six months, but ultimately, Eventoil was forgotten. A new bridge was built, B22, over its collapsing Victory Road. A few trainers from that era remember something very odd about Eventoil's Pokémon League: occasionally, two shadowy figures, taller than any human, would leap out of the mountains to watch particularly powerful challengers, then disappear after the match.

Points of Interest:
Medicine Shop
Trader: Varietin (Cold) L60 for your Deseruler (either form)
The original Pokémon League facilities can still be visited, including each Elite Four member's room, the Champion's, and the Hall of Fame (these resemble Indigo Plateau, HGSS), but the only thing to be found there is two TMs, resting side by side: U-turn and Volt Switch. After turning back, you are greeted by Baird, one of the rare few to have lived in Eventoil his entire life.

Baird
VSFalkner.png

Protector
Once, while lost in the mountains, Baird was rescued by a mysterious, tall man. He later learned that the man was in fact a legendary Pokémon: Purifighter. He devoted his life to learning everything he could about Purifighter, choosing not to leave Eventoil City in order to stay close to it. Baird doesn't know how to find Purifighter, but he will tell the player where to find Maragon.

Upon returning to Eventoil City after fighting Skjald (you do not have to have seen/caught Maragon), Baird will accuse the player of working with Skjald to find Maragon first, and challenge you to a battle:

After defeating Baird in battle, Purifighter will start roaming Baloncé. If you show Baird the Nexus Stone, he will give you the seen data for Purifighter (you cannot show both Baird and Skjald the Nexus Stone). If, after obtaining Purifighter, Maragon, and the Nexus Stone, you show him Armor Purifighter, he will give the player 10 Kee Berries (Again, you cannot do this with both Baird and Skjald).

Skjald
VSMorty.png

Explorer
Baird's childhood friend, Skjald has moved on from the frosty city he was born in, taking in the lavish sights Baloncé has to offer. In his travels, he attracted the attention of Fightark, a kindred spirit, and wishes to ensure that it will be the first to obtain the Nexus Stone. You first encounter him in Suxen Cave, where Maragon is fought; if you caught Maragon prior to meeting Baird, he will then appear there, and comment that Maragon is gone. Upon meeting him, he challenges you to a battle:

After defeating Skjald, Fightark will begin roaming Baloncé. If you win, he sees your potential to help complete Fightark, and informs you of Mysteriguard's location. (If you lose, he travels to Eventoil City and does not tell you the location). He then travels back to Eventoil City, where he waits in a house on the opposite side of town from Baird's. If you show Skjald the Nexus Stone, he will give you the seen data for Fightark (you cannot show both Baird and Skjald the Nexus Stone). If, after obtaining Fightark, Maragon, and the Nexus Stone, you show him Armor Fightark, he will give the player 10 Maranga Berries (Again, you cannot do this with both Baird and Skjald).

Fightark Lv 55
toxicroak.gif

Secret Sword, Teleport, Doom Desire, Dark Pulse

Once you capture either Fightark or Purifighter, the other will no longer be roaming Baloncé. You will immediately receive a message from Fightark or Purifighter's pet human that in order to lure the other one out, you must complete the Abso-fusion. After doing so, the other's location data will reappear - in Eventoil City. When he reappears, you will get a message from Drac (or no message, if Drac's quest isn't complete) saying the Champion's room has been invaded. When you go there, Fightark or Purifighter (whichever you haven't captured) will be there, with Baird, Skjald, and Drac. It will only fight you if the first Pokémon in your party is Armor Fightark or Armor Purifighter.

Before the battle starts, Fightark/Purifighter calls forth Maragon and the Nexus Stone, causing your Pokémon to de-fuse, and it to take on its Armor form (This also means that you cannot Abso-Fuse again under any circumstances and lose Maragon until you regain the Nexus Stone, at which point it resumes existing with the same stats as before). The following battle is treated as a trainer battle, and you cannot capture capture Armor Fightark/Purifighter at this time.

Armor Fightark Lv 75
aggron-mega.gif

Secret Sword, Dragon Claw, Aura Sphere, King's Shield

Armor Purifighter Lv 75
bisharp.gif

Sacred Sword, Dragon Pulse, Aura Sphere, King's Shield

When Armor Fightark/Purifighter gets below 30% health (even if it faints), Seikoshi will appear, and Baird will exclaim that it truly does care about the balance of Fightark and Purifighter, just as much as it cares about the balance of Purotenshi and Kuraskamai. Seikoshi calms down the attacking legendary, and then takes the Nexus Stone and Maragon for itself, vanishing before its new Forme is revealed. Then, Fightark/Purifighter, restored to full health and back in its original Forme, will attack; this time it counts as a standard wild battle, and you can catch it.

Fightark Lv. 75
toxicroak.gif

Secret Sword, Dragon Claw, Aura Sphere, Detect

Purifighter Lv. 75
lucario-mega.gif

Sacred Sword, Dragon Pulse, Aura Sphere, Detect

Once you've encountered Seikoshi and completely resolved the plotline, Drac will contact you on your SmartPoké, and ask you to visit the old Pokémon League building once more. When you do, the location has a new, more upbeat soundtrack, and is littered with tourist NPCs. Drac is accompanied by Reggie, who explain that word has spread about your encounters with Purifighter and Fightark, and people are starting to take an interest in this old city again. The two of them are currently meeting to discuss plans to renovate the building and make it useful once more (this does not happen during the course of the game). As a reward, Drac gives you a Hailordite, and Reggie, a Droughtordite, twins of the ones that Baird and Skjald received from their mentors long ago.

Reggie McGigas said:

Yeah, that post took a while to sort out...if you saw the all-Fearow version, that was especially messed up. Should be fixed now, though, thanks for the proofreading help.

I'll see about getting some of these new areas on the map.

Okay, big idea, and it has to do with how I said earlier that paired versions were irresponsible - what if, instead, there was a major "choose your fate" event in Normeric City? You encounter your Rival, spying on a Team Shadow Grunt, and the Rival asks if you want to pursue the Grunt, or if he will. If you pursue the Grunt, you spy on a secret Team Shadow meeting where they discuss their values as they see them. If you send off the Rival, you instead meet Stephen, who describes Team Shadow very differently. Your decision has small effects on dialogue here and there (especially where Team Shadow and your Rival are concerned), and also changes Pokémon encounter rates (like in the Gorgare/Gorgeel example).

Of course, the big question is, what does Team Shadow believe? What do they want, what do they fight against, and who would their message appeal to?

As a totally random aside, I have no idea how Biweak evolves.

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

I'm just going to post some interesting facts about a few of the remaining real-world locations:

10: [link=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neuschwanstein_Castle]Neuschwanstein[/link] Castle may not have a very recognizable name, but one look at the pictures immediately demonstrates the uniqueness of this whimsical fairytale castle hidden in the mountains.
24: Transylvania. Transylvania
29: [link=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Athos]Mount Athos[/link] is a peninsula, but it can only be feasibly reached by sea due to the mountains. It is an extremely pious monastery, where women are not supposed to enter.
30: Lake [link=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V%C3%A4nern]Vänern[/link] resembles Zealand (the large Danish island where Coastide City is located) so closely that a popular legend suggests the lake was created when a massive area of land was cut out and thrown into the sea to become Zealand.

I'm just going to post some interesting facts about a few of the remaining real-world locations:

I have an idea for number 30 now:

Lake Coastide
Legends has it that Coastide Island once layed in this lake, but the legendary Pokemon Maragon, pushed the land flying and it landed where it is today. Water filled the hole, leaving a giant lake.

It's funny how I live on Zealand, and I've never heard of that story about the lake :3

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

I don't really like the "Chose your fate" idea. It just doesn't appeal to me for some reason. Also, why is Stephen a Team Shadow representative?

Biweak evolves into Malevolice at level 50.

Team Shadow's goal is to simply turn the world into a destructive wasteland. They want to take control of all the legendaries of Baloncé and use their biblical powers to torture anyone in their way. They claim to want to end crime in a more quick, sealthy, and convenient way then using the police. However, they really want to end everyone in a quick and convient way, and create a new world on top of the Pokémon World.

If anyone wants to suggest any motives/change this one for Team Shadow feel free to make suggestions.

I'm going to make a cool area for Location 24 today/tommorow, so please no one take that!

RE: Pokedex 2.0 - Region Thread!

I hate to bump the thread but what is the secret garden/broken bridge area on the map about?

Also, the name of my location 24 area is going to be called Treisty Castle. It is going to be an abandoned castle with a small festival next to it that happens once every Saturday. I'll post more details tomorrow.

One last thing, I encourage all you readers to come and participate in this thread! There is plenty left to do and we could use more great ideas.

Yolo, thats why.
jk lol

I've been thinking about maybe having a Safari Zone type of thing as another Red Dot in Jutland, and having it connected to Coastide City, or having next to Town(17). I think it should be like the Great Marsh, but instead of only marsh, it should be different biome for each little square. Maybe having them inside a "glass bowl" so that the Pokemon inside each biome doesn't escape :)
