Here's my entry:
Background is the cloud effect on Paint.NET
Border involves making a gray border, adding shading to it, and changing the format of one of the layers (I'm not even exactly sure how it works)
Lugia is Sugimori art from Pokebeach
Font is Black Wolf from FontFreak.com
The avatar shows me. I like blue, so I made the background blue. I like a border beyond the 1px black border, so I made one. Lugia is obviously my favorite Pokemon, so I included it in the avatar.

Well Challenge 1 Is officially OVER! Thank you so much to all who participated, helped this thread grow, and turned some fantastic art in. Since I am the head judge (the most active as well xD ) I will lead off every challenge like this one! In this post will be:
So theres alot of stuff going on here tonight! Please note that the winner of this challenge will not be announced until all the scores are in. The judges will not finish until tommorrow and I dont expect them to....hopefully they will think of you guys and give them to me ASAP! Also note that 3 competitors did not turn their work in.....now, they still have a shot (Any work submitted between Friday February 15th, 2008 at 11:01 EST and Saturday February 16th, 2008 at 11:01 EST will be ACCEPTED but will suffer a 10 point deduction off their AVERAGE score.) Tommorrow night at 11 PM I will post the winner, whos out, the next challenge, any changes to the rules/due dates, etc etc. So without further ado, lets see some art!

To Be honest, I completly hated the first one....espically to hear it was done in 20 Minutes. I like the concept here, but the mechanical errors and bad cut-outs led to your downfall. It got better though....best of luck to ya.

Again, I was NOT impressed with this.....the effort showed right through it with the speckles.....but besides that I thought It was way too simple....you're in competition with most of the best artists pokebeach has to offer.....you gotta step it up to continue in this competition.

I was very disappointed to see this....you first submit this awesome, but simple animated banner thats fun and filled with color and then you scrap the idea and send in a non-animated, boring Arkais image, cant see half the banner, piece of art? Come on....I saw FANTASIC potential of you....in fact, the score I gave you in the feedback was higher than this one! I just thought this seemed out of place, and lost. You'll most likely be safe, but be sure to bring your A-Game next week.

I'm not a big fan of spriting, but I can recognize good spriting. It was a good sprite overall, but lacked what the challenge meant. Spriting is the worst way to tell me how your art relates to you.....because Spriting is generic. Hope you'll get the chance to show me what ELSE you can do....

The originality and relation to the Challenge got you there....the work was good, but its been done before MANY times (About 3 Times by me, and once by Puzzle ( I gave him the idea....we made it for Max Shade IV's Fan Creations tournament back in December.)) so I had to dock off major points....plus, it was personal as you stole my idea for the team on the avvy....it's cool though....I take it as a compliment. :] Good work otherwise, just try to think about originality and espically the challenge and its meaning next time. It was very consistant with the scores....the only thing that was off was the Relation to the Challenge.....obviously everyone here thinks art is a blast....or else they wouldnt be here xD So I docked a couple points for that, but otherwise just a good banner overall! Consistancy is a good thing to have.....so dont be discouraged here.

This was one of the best avatars I've seen.....ever. It combines that new style of sleek and it was basically flawless. The only thing I would have suggested was to NOT use a Sugimori....because Lugias pic isnt that great.....but besides that it was fantastic.

I didnt like this one much....it was almost well made, but the Darkrai picture killed its smoothness with the white....and this banner was for a clan. How does this relate to you as an artist....you made it for a clan you belong to? No.....just no. Anyways, the rest looked good....

This challenge was accually quite simple.....it was just to see what you like to do, what you can do, and to explain what kind of art you like to do.....that was it! Some got it and some didnt....but overall, its turning out to be a great first challenge!
So as promised I will submit some "examples" of what I would do for this challenge.....I didnt spend a TON of time on these (about an hour total) but they represent the style of art I do.
This was my First Draft.....I recolored an Alakazam for the "Custom" feel.....as that's what my whole art feel is about. To show this, I animated the word custom and made it change colors.....so it accually is custom :]
This is my Final Draft.....instead of the recolor, I chose to take a backround of Zam using the Neon feature and do the same idea.....I think that the blue in the Zam highlights the color usage in this piece more than the last and again the Custom is changing colors, but it seems to stand out a little more because I double bolded it :]

Colour Usage: 8/10, The only thing I dislike is the fact that the black+red text really scatters the synergy, I can understand the red, blue the blue/white kinda ruins it a bit :S

Originality: 7/10, the red eyes own, but it's just an evil Glaceon, a bit of starts and some text.
