I agree with that, too. I still found it kinda confusing with that fancy phrase, but hey, at least I got most of the picture after having it explained to me... I think it would save you a lot of trouble, BR, if you state the challange in the simplest terms possible, where people that are new to the art world (like me) can understand it the way it's suppose to be understood. This would also minimized the number of "huh?" responses that you may get from other competitors.

BR, if you went on vacation, didn't you have to like not be here? I'm pretty sure all those guys who were on "vacation" have made at least 1 post during this week. I think that calls for an elimination.

On a side not, yes, I had to be rude like that, whilst most of it had the most sarcastic undertone ever, I can't just tell people it's a good banner when it isn't. I don't see why you would enter a challenge if you know you'll end up submitting stuff like that.

I disagree obviously.....I gave not only Two GREAT examples of Avant Garde, but a link to a webpage EXPLAINING it......not only that, but EVERY QUESTION that was asked about the Avant Garde challenge was answered in the best way I could. I dont think I could have explained it better....show us something we havent seen before. Im not gonna do it for you.....I almost did, showing you not one, but TWO examples. In addition to me explaining it thouroghly, I gave you almost a full week to complete this challenge.....most people didnt have partners becuase they used their vacation week.....so you cant really use that as a point. To be perfectly honest, I dont think any of the competitors that had partners coming into last night used them well at all.....every piece had a different theme.....and It completely did not live up to my expectations to any extent....I'm very disappointed on how this challenge went.....but I do want to see things get better around here, which is why I let those people use their vacation week.....Project Custom would end much sooner if 50% of the people were eliminated in this challenge, no? MUCKSTER and some others had viable excuses, he went on a cruise, but got back the day I extended the deadline. This was sopposed to be a fun, quick challenge.....I think everyone overthought this challenge and blew it way out of preportion....most of you guys can be creative, and I knew that, thats why I wanted to see MORE.....hence this challenge. As far as making it person simple, Im not gonna do that.....people can read a Wikipedia page, get it explained to them, and ask any questions they need to about it....oh,not to mention have a week to make ONE piece of art.....I think that people put way too much thought into it rather than just opening up their art program and playing it by ear.....creativity is a powerful thing. I get inspiration just THINKING about things.....the CD took all of 2 hours of thought while chatting on AIM and not about the challenge either.....and the DIY (Do it yourself, because it makes itself) Trainer Pass just kinda came to me, so I made it. If you look at the scores, it was the simplist challenge yet. Everyone got 40+ I believe, and noone was eliminated who turned someting in....did any of you think of that?

Anyways, Im done proving my point....I think I've got you beat 4x over already, so lets move on to other things. I still need scores from KG, PMJ, AMT, Max Shade.....so if any of you are NOT able to judge this challenge LMK ASAP so I can contact my backups.

I'm not saying that you didn't do an awesome job of explianing it, you did. And I personaly understood it almost right away, but it does seem as if the majority of people on this forum, and therefore some in this contest are just... dumb. There's no nice way to put it after seeing how some people reacted to a simple new word.

What I am saying is that you would've had fewer people drop out if you had said something familiar instead of avant-garde, because of, once again, the dumbness to people in general. But, hey, maybe you don't want somebody who can't understand a simple new term in this contest anyawy. But if that's the case, you have to accept that your going to lose some of the stupider members.

I understand your pieces are supposed to show your individuality but still, the two had really nothing to do with each other.

Um...this was very boring. you put an Empoleon in some water with some japanese text....just didn't "wow" me, ya know?

Definitely my favorites. I like the animation in Bellomence's, however one thing I would've liked to see is if you had changed the Plusle's cheeks and tail into a "+" sign. Zzzdark, you had some things I liked, but the things I like did not go well together. It's like this girl at my school: she can sing without music and can tap dance and can write songs, but when she combines all three it's "meeh..."

Personally, this contest is quite good and full of challenges. I enjoyed the first two challenges because they are very hard and tricky. The third challenge is what I appreciate the most: you have to combine certain elements to win. You have to learn how to cooperate with others, which is really essential wherever you go, from school to your home, or even when you grow up and you want to stand up business (positive teamwork for short, you'll never win this round without a little teamwork because you have to!), you need a wide-and-wild imagination ( creativity for short, just like how to create an avant-garde banner and how to create a unique blend to the team's works without losing our originalities) and a little understanding to deep terms related to art (good comprehension for short, if you want to win, you'll have to learn all of these weird terms like "avant-garde", actually there are more terms like that).

And what's worse, any contestant who failed to use these certain elements will fail at this challenge. For example, if you failed to understand 'avant-garde' despite all the explanations and examples given, then you'll lose. If you fail to cooperate with your peers then all of you will fail too. You are going to learn a lot from this kind of contest.

For me, this contests becoming more difficult and exciting! Black Rayquaza really wants to filter us until the best of the best remains.

P.S: Sorry, I am confused with Chill_glacia and wes1234 because of their glaceon obsession (some point in their lives). I edited my post....

P.S.: And everyone, especially PMJ, thanks a lot for judging our works, and criticizing all of them from top to bottom.... I just don't understand PMJ's judging because of the lack of explanation.

It's just because many of the contestants are complaining about the difficulty of the challenge. Even I experienced difficulty like how can I negotiate with my team if we live in different time zones (that means we visit PokeBeach in different times). I told to myself that we might not make it in deadline. But fortunately you extended the deadline.

And you make the challenge more difficult by using the word 'avant-garde'. It's like you want to confuse us, even though you don't intend to. You are giving us a really hard challenge by using French words, which I appreciate. I guess the fourth challenge will be more difficult...

Oh my, I guess I'm going to be drop out in the future challenges. At least it's worth participating.

Effect: 7.5/10 - Took me a while to see what was going on, but it comes off well once you work it out... well, as much as I have -_-
Color Usage: 8/10 - I'm loving the colour scheme in this... although I'm not sure EXACTLY what the blue thing is (one guess is Dialga, but it doesn't look like anything TBH >_< )
Effort: 9/10 - Clear to see the effort here.
Originality: 9/10 - Well, it's not often you see Halo and Pokemon together... but Palkia in space isn't exactly original. But it fits, so...
Relation to the Challenge: 8/10 - The aim was to produce something you don't see everyday. This certainly falls into that, but is easily thought of (space relation is obvious), so it's not perfectly original.
Overall: 8.5/10 - The effort is plain to see, and it is somewhat original as well (Halo + Pokes isn't normally seen). So nice one

Effect: 7/10 - It DOES seem a tad random... I guess the fireworks are set off by the electricity? Seriously, there's not much correlation between the elements of this banner, and that cuts the effect score a little...
Color Usage: 7/10 - PMJ's right on this one - the borders are a bit too visible really... things tend to look nicer when they blend more easily than this.
Effort: 8/10 - Again, a lot of work went into this.
Originality: 9.5/10 - Well, I can't say I've seen anything like it before... but it is a TAD random, hence why half a point is lost >_<
Relation to the Challenge: 7/10 - Too large, as peoples have said. It's nice, but it coulda done with being cut down slightly so that it would fit the specifications of a BANNER... but it's still quirky art, so it's not all bad. How does it link to Wes's banner though?
Overall: 7/10 - As it's been said, hardly horrible, but slightly random and a little disjointed with the lack of blending.

Effort: 6/10 - I'm not sure how long it would REALLY take to do this... there aren't that many separate elements there... but I wouldn't have thought it would take as long as some of the more profound pieces in this have.
Originality: 7/10 - Unique in here, but hardly a new concept... Empoleon in water is a duh choice.
Relation to the Challenge: 6/10 - I could see similar things for sure if I look hard enough... it prolly wouldn't take to long to do so either.
Overall: 7/10 - A good banner, but the lack of an original idea kills it slightly.

Originality: 8/10 - Haven't seen TOO many things like it, even though the theme seems obvious. It's nice to see the animation here - that's not always seen in these things.
Relation to the Challenge: 8/10 - Well, yeah, it's unique as well as linking with your partners piece, I like!
Overall: 9/10 - I really did take a fancy to this one. Possibly the only improvement would be to get that minus changed on Plusle...

Effect: 7/10 - Hmm... the teamwork aspect is portrayed, but... I don't think the colours really help the effect at all. Nice reflection effects on the Latis though.
Color Usage: 7/10 - Not a huge fan of the greyness, but it DOES work... maybe a different colour would have worked better though.
Effort: 7.5/10 - The various reflections must have taken a while, but the text font doesn't match up very well.
Originality: 7/10 - Not an original concept you two came up with, but it works. The team idea works in your own team here, and that's what gives you points
Relation to the Challenge: 7/10 - Hmm... I see more of these than Plusle/Minum, so it's not as unique I'm afraid... and that's the aim of this challenge.
Overall: 7/10 - It DOES work, although it's certainly not as good as your partners one. I'm not understanding why all the light stuff is there though... I know Latias can refract light, but still... it just doesn't seem to work as well as it should for me.

Effect: 7/10 - PMJ makes a good point... all the pokes fit on what appears to be a podium. Cool, but I'm not sure that was intended.
Color Usage: 8/10 - Simplistic colours work with simplistic cartoon pics - enough said there. The two contemplate each other nicely, but WHY does the shadow caused by Dusknoir have to be so HUGE? It just doesn't fit with the clolour scheme...
Effort: 6.5/10 - Yeah, it would have taken a fair bit of time... but not as much as some here.
Originality: 8/10 - Well, you don't see this everyday... not too bad here.
Relation to the Challenge: 7/10 - Too bad you had nothing to relate it to in the end, but it worked nice enough as a standalone.
Overall: 7.5/10 - I quite like this one, although the shadow thing puts me off slightly. It works enough to be nice though.

In addition to me explaining it thouroghly, I gave you almost a full week to complete this challenge.....most people didnt have partners becuase they used their vacation week.....so you cant really use that as a point. To be perfectly honest, I dont think any of the competitors that had partners coming into last night used them well at all.....every piece had a different theme.....and It completely did not live up to my expectations to any extent....I'm very disappointed on how this challenge went.....but I do want to see things get better around here, which is why I let those people use their vacation week.....Project Custom would end much sooner if 50% of the people were eliminated in this challenge, no? MUCKSTER and some others had viable excuses, he went on a cruise, but got back the day I extended the deadline. This was sopposed to be a fun, quick challenge.....I think everyone overthought this challenge and blew it way out of preportion....most of you guys can be creative, and I knew that, thats why I wanted to see MORE.....hence this challenge. As far as making it person simple, Im not gonna do that.....people can read a Wikipedia page, get it explained to them, and ask any questions they need to about it....oh,not to mention have a week to make ONE piece of art.....I think that people put way too much thought into it rather than just opening up their art program and playing it by ear.....creativity is a powerful thing. I get inspiration just THINKING about things.....the CD took all of 2 hours of thought while chatting on AIM and not about the challenge either.....and the DIY (Do it yourself, because it makes itself) Trainer Pass just kinda came to me, so I made it. If you look at the scores, it was the simplist challenge yet. Everyone got 40+ I believe, and noone was eliminated who turned someting in....did any of you think of that?

Anyways, Im done proving my point....I think I've got you beat 4x over already, so lets move on to other things. I still need scores from KG, PMJ, AMT, Max Shade.....so if any of you are NOT able to judge this challenge LMK ASAP so I can contact my backups.

Ok, I'm going to be as nice as I can about this, though I'll warn you that you're not going to like what I have to say.

I don't believe that you had to get that ugly about the matter when explaining your point. I'm not saying that I disagree with you. In fact, I actually completely agree with you on the matter you were referring to. The only thing I have to say about it is that not everyone had the a whole lot of time to talk to their partners. However, I know that this is fairly irrelevent due to having a week, so I'll shut up about that. Anyways, your wording on the matter was just... I found it offensive to be honest. I understand that I'm really taking a risk participating in this contest, as noone knows what to expect from me and everyone will be judging my "artistic ability" based on what I create in my pieces, which have so far, all been flukes (even though I know you disagree on that). Anyways, what really makes me VERY angry (and is also why I'm quitting, among other small and "not-as-influentual-to-my-decision" things, too) is what you said at the end of your post... About having me "beat 4x over. That's just uncalled for, bragging about what you're saying was correct, which was actually correct. That's like twisting the knife and it also reinforced that you were just trying beat me down simply because you and I weren't agreeing on something, which is so wrong. I can be stubborn sometimes. I'll admit that. However, I'm not so stubborn that I'll refuse to see one's perspective. I'll actually try to understand what you mean. There are other ways to discuss things besides comitting such low forms of arguments, like you did. If this is how I'm going to be treated when I just make a simple statement/suggestion or ask a simple question, I want NO PART in this contest. PERIOD! There are other contests with nicer people could be hosted in the far future.

As for the score thing, I personally still strongly disagree with the scores I'm getting in this challange... I feel that I deserve ~30/60 rather than the 40s and 50s I'm getting strictly because it's space-themed. How is that origional? Yes, it has Halo and Pokemon, but that's it. As far as relation to challange goes, that should be a 5/10 at most because it's not out of the norm.

Aside from those things, I'm getting busier and busier IRL, so I'd be lucky to get any future entries in on time while also keeping up with assignments in college AND maintaining a full-time job. That, along with the aggressive additude torwards me you're showing... I see no point in continuing my participation in this contest. I don't care about the fact that noone got eleminated this round. That is irrelevent to me.

Anyways, I'm done. I apologize if this was overly harsh. However, it's also quite hard to be as nice as you can when your emotions are boiling hot. I was really expecting better things from "Pokebeach's Ultimate Art Contest." I was hoping that I could really learn from this to improve future pieces and make top-notch banners using the skills I learned. I should've been aware of the risks of entering a contest when I had JUST completed my first-ever banner. I don't think I'll make this mistake again. I enjoyed this contest up to the point when you made that post.

To all judges and fellow challangers: I sincerely apologize for this. None of this was directed at any of you in any shape or form. For those that move on to the next round, I look forward to seeing your works. I wish you all the best of luck. Please don't let what I said in my post affect you in a negative way. Again, I apologize for this... I realize that some things I said may have been unecessary. Good luck to you all.

Well the scores are in......and the winner of this challenge by a clear majority (first 4 I asked all said the same so I didnt have to ask anyone else) is Bellomence Youre banner was very creative and all the judges liked it.....so you have immunity for the next challenge :] Wes, great job you came in a close second. Everyone else who turned in a piece of art is in, Andyman and Bulbasaur45 are OUT.

Next Challenge.....will be a Trainer Card challenge.....as nobody has made a Trainer Card yet, and they happen to be my speciality.

Challenge #4-Create a Custom Elemental themed Trainer Card

The pokemon do NOT have to do with the theme at all.....and will not be graded down for such. Challenge #4 is due Thursday March 6th at 9:00 PM EST.

EDIT:Really sorry to read that Wes.....but as the head of this tournament I really have to defend myself when people disagree with my actions.....I agree I may have been harsh about that, and I truly apoligize for my earlier actions.....but please know it was only to prove my point, not to impose anything mean to anybody. If I would have known you would have dropped out because of this, I would have never posted anything.....that really saddens me, you were one of the frontrunners to win this Competition. You do have a ton of artistic ability, and the scores you recieve are truthful and genuine at least mine.....It was a good banner overall....you have to understand that nobody really grasped the concept so I had to judge accordingly. Again, I think that I did overreact to what you guys were saying....but I feel that was I said, I had to day weather it be now or later.....so I dont really have much to say now but Good Luck in whatever you may do, weather it be art or competitive battling.
