Ok I have been letting all of you fight your wars but I now feel like its time for a small, subtle post from the king

However, it also looks like an ****ing soap opera!

That I can definetly agree with! I was thinking the same thing!

I have to agree that this is, compared to many contests on this forum, is far superior.

So was Max Shade's fan creation tournament, that seemed to be the best thing on PokéBeach Forums. There were entrants from all across the forums (LOL) joining! If you recall, like B-ray said, that didn't turn out so hot.

The tiny issues were bound to happen. They are in any contest. Lets look at the example book.

I was in this one, it was one of the best contests ever! The fact that there was no final round was a COMPLETE fluke, I can guarantee you that!

Max's Contest-3/12 entrys turned in total?

First of all, it was 4 out of 12 And that was mainly because of Max's crisis and his absence from PokéBeach Forums. Sure, maybe not everyone would have had it turned in, but once again, odd scenario.

Ok now I don't want to pick sides, I am just going to say: B-ray didn't act perfectly with some of these cases, and thats ok I suppose.

Also with the time thing, like it has been said, a few more days wouldn't hurt! I know that you are on a lot and very active when it comes to art (like you're example peices) and we all dont have time to sit down in front of the computer for 3 hours and work non stop! With school, friends, homework, FUN, we need to get our priorties straight a little bit. And trying to schedule challenges so they overlap the weekends would certainly be a great idea! Just some thoughts of mine, hope you can make do with them!

Wes and I are just trying to give some constructive critiscism for the next Project Custom, not jump on b-ray's imperfections in any way.

I don't think you were refering to us, but I just wanted to make that clear.

Max's contest was hopeful but fell apart when he kinda left for you know....the whole tourney. It was 3 out of 10....I didnt count MUCKSTER's because it was late.....if you want to be techinical then yeah.....still 4/12=33%....good turnout? The changes I could do.....but the whole "B-ray didn't act perfectly with some of these cases, and thats ok I suppose." really ticked me off TBH. Look, if you want to make your own Art Tourney and run it thats your choice....but this is just what Im saying. You suppose? Im not the Allmighty, Monkeyking. I do make mistakes. Try it sometime...you'll find you will too

Just to clarify, I know you make mistakes, thats why I said you didn't act perfectly in some cases. (which is what we have been talking about right, constructive criticism is a big thing in the art world!) And the I suppose part was said to be clear that I AM NOT PICKING SIDES! I am not bashing you, or anyone. I will agree everything has blown out of proportion, which is why I have not been activly posting about this. I didn't think one little post would hurt this much. I am sorry to offend you Black Rayquaza, that was not the point of my post, and I hope this one clarifies my feelings a little bit more. As for getting back on topic, I am working on my entry. It should be done tommarow on time!

Glad someones working on it.....I'll make sure I include a weekend next time.....and just FYI Im gonna be gone Thursday and Friday so I wont be able to give feedback for the next challenge those days. I changed the ending to tommorrow because I need a day to get all the scores together and accounce the next challenge before I leave for Waterpark fun

I understand that this is an art contest threat and not a general art discussion, but rather than accuse them of spamming, I think it would be better and more polite to perhaps refer them to another thread or suggest to them what they could do, and then say that if they have any further questions, they can post in whatever thread handles art-related questions. By recieving as many page hits as this thread is getting, it's inevitable that such things will occur, and they have to be hadled well, or the contest's reputation will spiral downhill and next thing you know, noone will want to compete in it. A contest is suppose to put the spotlight on the challangers, not the fans. Fans are a factor, no doubt, but they shouldn't be your main focus. If it is truely a speed contest, that's something I will personally avoid, as I am EXTREMELY unhappy with works that don't turn out as good as I would hope (hence why I bashed my own "Avant-Garde" piece, and I still bash it to this day lol). Remember that AS said that he lives by the same philosophy that I do, and he's so right about that.



As for the time issue, one thing that I think could solve the time issue in terms of challange length would be to invite fewer contestants. If we're forced to turn in lower quality products, then the contest means nothing, IMO. An art contest is suppose to be a test of a person's ability to effectively make an image that will appeal to many people exceptionally well, not the person's ability to get work done faster. Of course, another thing that could help in terms of time length is holding like during the summer vacation where nearly everyone is swimming in free time, as I've stated before. If the contest DOES get held during a busy time for most people, then the time length of the challanges needs to be widened to what I mentioned in my above post. A time length too tight will result in what's been happening for the past two weeks, people dropping out left and right, which is why I personally think people are dropping out right now. If it were during summer vacation, I think that there would only be about 2-3 drop-outs/incompletions out of this whole contest up to this point since free time is in abundance. During school time, though, most people's efforts are geared torwards getting their HW done and mantaining their grade averages in their classes, and it gets worse when you get to high school and college, believe me, because when you are in there, not only do you have tons of HW, you have a job to keep, as well. This severly limits free time, and I don't believe anyone want to dedicate ALL of their free time torwards an art contest. It's not only boring to do so, it's also unhealthy to restrain yourself from doing your other hobbies. And once again, that philosophy that I live by kicks in with this whole time issue thing. It's something that many artists live by, so you need to remember that.



The questions/suggestions that have been bashed aren't just the ones that you're thinking of. I'll list just two examples that I remember of the top of my head...

The Avant-Garde question. Everyone was asking what it was despite that you posted a Wiki link to it. Well, the truth is that Wiki articles are often far too detailed. This means that people that have a difficulty understanding highly detailed info will in fact not understand it at all. There are people that can understand such articles, but there are also a great many people that don't, me included. It's usually best to provide your own simple definition that everyone will understand. Not the person kind, but enough to where most of the contestants will get the picture.

Then there was the issue that you and I had. I won't go into detail over it since we both already understand what happened there. (Plus, I'm lazy and don't want to have to type it all out. lol)

It's things like that I'm talking about, where the situation wasn't handled well at all and things just sorta exploded because of it.



Lastly, I never said you had to be perfect. (that was not meant to sound rude, BTW) The whole point of constructive critism is to get as close to perfect as possible. The closer it is to perfect, the better the contest will turn out. After all, noone ever said it would be an easy task to host a contest. lol You need to be EXTREMELY dedicated to making it as contestant-and-fan friendly as you can to the best of your ability. It's no doubt a VERY demanding job, as I'm sure you have learned first-hand. lol

Well, my post was actualy supposed to be refering to INFERNAPE's, it just came in a bit late. It still applies though.

And with the soap opera thing, I was intentionaly exaggerating (I believe the correct literary term is hyperbole for anyone who cares) to emphasize that this topic has more than it's share of drama.

Just wanted to clear that up, I'll let this get back on topic now.

Its not a Speed contest.....but the effects of extending the due dates will account to more than the effects of it being 3-7 days per challenge.

As far as the time thing, Im pretty sure we have that resolved....

Yeah, me too.....Im not gonna be fighting with anyone for quite awhile....Im tired out from all this (throws boxing gloves in closet)

Hopefully we can ease back to the task at hand (Art for those of you who dont know yet) and get this stuff in....I havent seen anything from Monkeyking,Bellomence,or INFERNAPE.....gotta get this stuff in. Im also planning the Finals and the Award show and such....I make make a video for my acceptance speech.

• Images cropped from Pokesho (I've completed some missing parts and I adjusted their lightings. :F)

Relation to Challenge:

Checking..... No greens..... No animations..... Check !

I had a hard time what element should I use. But I finally thought of ghosts. I also had a hard time finding images but I finally found some good looking images on Pokesho.

After cropping, I fixed Banette's hair like something because It's not included on the image where I cropped it. I placed the Pokemons in their best position, and I ended up putting them in that place. Making the text also ate my time..... I made that double touch using a more little text and recolored it into a more night theme..... I also made a drop out shadow to make the banner fancy *P

Personal Comments:

Finally a banner, :F..... The rounds are getting more exciting !! I love Project Custom !!!

Well, even though I know, I have immunity, I won't be slacking in this round, I'm now near to the finals. I must do my best.
