SSB Brawl Discussion Thread

RE: The official Super Smash Bros Brawl thread.

My friend and I were messing around with Mr. Game & Watch and Pikachu one day, and we came up with a great strategy for a two vs. two match. One person is Pikachu and the other is Mr. Game & Watch, but you are one different teams (though you are working together). Mr. Game & Watch holds out his bucket (down B), and Pikachu uses Thunderbolt (also down B) three times. Game & Watch's bucket is now a 1-hit kill, just be careful not to hit Pikachu. Any thoughts on this?

RE: The official Super Smash Bros Brawl thread.

General team play rules: Team attack on. So your strategy would work even when you're on the same team.

It's a pretty well-known strategy (as in, it was even on the dojo ._.), but you WILL GET PUNISHED. Your opponents won't just stand there waiting for you to complete your weapon of mass destruction.

They're all different characters. While Kirby and MK both have massive air games, they don't really have the speed and movability in the air.

Wario is madness in the air, if anyone would come close to replacing her, it's him. AND he has a ground game and way more weight.

And jigglypuff's rest really isn't what it used to be, even Luigi's Up-B kills sooner than it.

Wario, huh... I would have never thought of him being a master jumper, but I should try a few rounds with him and develop a strategy. With so many more characters in SSBB, Jigglypuff isn't the same as in the first Smash Bros. when there were only 12 or so characters and less choices. :)

RE: The official Super Smash Bros Brawl thread.

Don't bump :(

But I'll go ahead and sticky it, so it won't ever die, good enough?

Anyhow, it's been ages since I last played brawl for some reason (I blame school, Phantom hourglass, Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon, and my dad having nothing to do other than watch TV), but Jiggly's game is shaping up quite nicely from what I've been reading and such (sadly, there is no reference to this at all in the SBR tiers, not at all, it be a shame). Perfect rest (the act of resting one out of an attack, avoiding damage because of the invincibility frames) is HARD to do, but so very satisfying when done. I haven't had much time to practice (explained above), but if and when I do... :D

RE: The official Super Smash Bros Brawl thread.

You stickied a dead thread D:

RE: The official Super Smash Bros Brawl thread.

Man if this thread dies. I am going to miss it. I remember we also went on that smash site and posted on the update. We talked about some hilarious character discussions and such. XD It was awesome times.

Thanks for doing that. This thread should have been stickied a long time ago. Thanks for your help. If I had Brawl I would be posting in here more often. At least I had a long start when it was being made though. I still check the site for minor changes but I have not seen any since August 22 last year.:)

RE: The official Super Smash Bros Brawl thread.

Uh...right. First post here? Anyhow...Link. WHY IS HE NOT GOOD!? He was pretty sweet in Melee, and now he seems so bulky and slow. I want to get somewhat good with him, but he has a terrible jump and is slow. Help please?

RE: The official Super Smash Bros Brawl thread.

Link has never been good.

The trick to playing Link is to not leave the stage, ever, unless you know you'll be able to edgehog with the hookshot or boomerang, or if you really think you know what you're doing.

Link has A LOT of advanced techniques up his sleeves, if you want to play him, you have to be willing to take the time to look them up and learn them. The Bombs and the hookshot are my favourite weapons, but be sure to mix up a lot, Link has an answer for every situation, some more effective than others, how good he is solely depends on how well you can play him and mix up your playstyle. Deva, probably the best Link player, has beaten DSF, one of the best players, using Link. He might be low on the tiers list, but he has potential, some at least.

That, and he's one of the most awesome characters to play as, you never stop learning stuff when playing Link.

RE: The official Super Smash Bros Brawl thread.

It's just that, when I use Link, I find that I can't do anything! I'm not bad at Link, he was one of my best characters in Melee. I just find that it's difficult to combo anything with him, because he's so slow. Any far range combos I could use?

cool, thanks for the thread. That...kinda helped. :p I don't know half of the terms he used.

RE: The official Super Smash Bros Brawl thread.

Using your common sense when trying to translate most terms works, look up the other ones, Smashwiki is probably the fastest way of finding an explanation.

Link's not slow, unless, I donno, you're spamming smashes. Or do you mean running speed?
Link can keep on pressuring, using the hookshot, his rather fast multi-hit aerials, and his many projectiles. Although this is kinda hard against some characters, coughmetaknightcough.

RE: The official Super Smash Bros Brawl thread.

Link is a horrible character because he has bad aim on his bombs and he is hard to control when you use the spining sword move. He was bad in the very first game for N64 too and in Melee. I am not sure on Brawl but so far he is bad choice for SSB SSBM and possibly in SSBB. I don't know why they did not give him a better variety of moves but they could have done better with Link or replaced him completely in Melee.:)

RE: The official Super Smash Bros Brawl thread.

They didn't replace him in Melee because he is the main character in one of Nintedno's biggest games, Zelda -_-.

Anyway, Toon Link > Link IMO. Toon link is a lot quicker than normal link, and looks cooler. Cell shading FTW.
