It sounded pretty legit for a DS game so yeah. Please make sure you clarify that it is not a DS game because if you post it we pretty much believe it because this is a forum dedicated to everything and the outskirts of Pokemon. Mewtwo was a clone in the original, so they wanted to replace him with a brand new character and moveset. IIRC though, his data is still in the coding of the game.

If Mewtwo were a clone, who would he be a clone of? :S
He was removed because 4 seems to be the maximum for one series (the 4 extra Mario characters each have their own series)

Mewtwo was supposed to be downloadable originally but they scrapped that idea and replaced him with Lucario instead. WPM had a news update on all the ideas they scrapped a few months back.

Your information is partially correct, xxashxx.
There are parts of the programming which suggest that 7 characters were originally planned to be in this game (Mewtwo being one of them). However, these 7 were cut, and the data which is on the disc is nowhere near enough to actually use these characters through hack/download/whatever.
Sakurai didn't even know of the option of possibly adding downloadable characters, thus, this will never happen.

Who are the other six? I've heard oddities like Plusle & Minun and Toon Zelda but I figger since you seem to be in the know about this stuff, you would know more information.

I am curious of this as well. I'd assume Roy, Pichu, Mewtwo...
One of my friends made a list of all the possible characters. Those that weren't in Brawl were Mewtwo (regular and Power Suit), Roy, Krystal...and that's all I can remember.

Dixie Kong, Dr. Mario, Roy, Mewtwo, and yes, Toon Zelda/shiek and Pluse and Minum.

This, and Mewtwo is a bit of an outdated character now and isn't nearly as popular as he was back in 2001. Lucario is much more recognizable, espeically to younger kids. And Jigglypuff and Pokemon Trainer already serve as the nostalgia for the older crowd.
When it comes to the 'Forbidden 7' though, it is important to note that (while extremely likely) we still do not know for sure whether or not Plusle and Minun are actually the seventh character. The file name is Pra_Mai, so we're can't be 100% certain, even though there is not much else it could be.

There's really nothing else they could be.
What is important to note, though, is that they are both in the same file, unlike Popo and Nana, which means that Minum was probably meant as an alternative costume, and not as a Nana.
Oh well, chances are we'll never know.

I would assume a Popo and Nana combo with Plusle and Minun...
My friend says that there might be a Sonic and Tails combination in the next game. As if the Ice Climbers weren't bad enough.

Also don't forget Blaziken was supposed to be a playable character and all the Pokemon including Raikou was supposed to be added as well but they had to scrap some because it woas bogging down the data. Ithink.

Blaziken was scrapped when Lucario was introduced, as Lucario was a more popluar Pokemon. Gardevoir was also playable in very early builds of the game but was taken out because she apparently ended up being too similar to Mewtwo (who I guess was still planned at the time).
