Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U

Everyone warmed up? Who are you favourite characters so far / who have you tried to learn?

I've been learning Villager -> Pac-Man -> Greninja, and now I'm starting with Zero Suit Samus. This also involves unlocking the custom moves by Smash Running a lot. I still miss one custom move on those three though (a neutral on Pac-Man, an up on Greninja, a side on Villager).

Custom moveset-wise I recommend:
Villager: possibly replace Tree with Big Tree, possibly Pocket by Super Pocket (makes pocketing much easier but the items/projectiles etc. get weaker when you use them)
Pac-Man: replace Water Hydrant with Explosive Hydrant (don't need to wait for it to disappear to use again)
Greninja: upgrade recovery (up) to Double Hydro Pump (sooo much better!)

Also, the Quick Gun for ZSS is imo better than the normal one (much weaker but not such bad firing lag). It also reaches a bit further.

I've been loving Greninja, Duck Hunt, and either Bowser or Yoshi so far. I, unfortunately, have little to no custom moves for them, but lots for others lol. Btw, what are Shulk's neutral 2 and 3?

I recommend playing Smash Run with the characters you want custom moves for. I have gotten anything from zero to four moves every Smash Run. When you get moves in Smash Run about 4/5 of the moves you get are for the character you are playing atm. But be aware that you can get a move even though you have it already... (although the chance is a bit lower...). Once I got the same move three times in a run, and several times I have gotten the same move twice, or just gotten a learned move later again. -__- Extremely stupid mechanic...

Assuming no customizations (for glory mode, essentially), I've really been liking Little Mac. Extremely fast, and as long as you stay on the ground, he's extremely powerful. Only thing I'm really having issues with is his lack of approach options--granted, he's so fast that you can generally get in their face no matter what you do, but it can be problematic against characters that camp (Robin and Villager X____X). Been fiddling around with Charizard since he's my main in Project M, but he's just way too slow and you basically have to rely on them walking into your forward smash or spiking them to ever get a KO.

Going to work on getting better at Sheik as well--never really used her any of the other games so it's going to take a while to get used to the speed and the timing for combos/gimps.

When I play with my friends we allow custom movesets but no buffs since that makes the most sense. I'm surely bummed that custom moves are not available in for glory because imo they should. They'll probably be tournament legal, too...

I'd be willing to run a BeachSmash tourney, but you have to be aware that there are some very large skill discrepancies when it comes to Smash and that if you don't know what stuff like landing lag, hitstun and maybe vectoring is you probably won't stand much of a chance. And for this to be anything other than just playing Smash together, stage choices would have to be restricted and items turned off. If you want a tournament, it's going to have to be somewhat competitive, keep that in mind.

Also, you'd all need to have at least 200 KO's so you can unlock the More Rules menu, which allows for timed stock matches.

If you're interested, like this post or reply or let me know some other way.

Also, I'm not sure a Mii tourney would be a lot of fun. There's not that much customisation involved, and the Miis are generally quite boring characters to play as. It seems weirdly restrictive for a tournament.

That is super easy. To get 200 KO's fast or 200 rounds if that is what it needs set the CPU to one life and set yours to infinite lives by doing the sideways 8 icon. Then start a match set your handicap to 9 and the CPU to 1 and then just keep ding UP+A with Yoshi and it does not take long to get 200 KO's. You can do that in roughly 15 minutes. I did this trick in Melee to get all the characters that needed matches to get them.:) Also you can just KO yourself by falling off the stage and it will still count the match even though you lost.:)

Mega Man I've had down since the demo, I'm best with him out of all the newcomers. As expected, mains so far are Mega Man, Dr. Mario, Ganondorf, and Robin.

I've been pretty unimpressed with Greninja. So far I have not seen anyone who was actually good with him. They like shooting Water Shuriken a lot even though it's kind of a stupid move.

I hate facing Macs online. They are so annoying.

Sounds like Greninja is for advanced players who know exactly how to make a KO. If you know what I mean compare the hard moves to pull off in Mortal Kombat 3. Remember Smokes blow up the world technique? Well the move performance is probably something like that where you have to not only be very fast but accurate to execute the hard moves with Greninja. If you don't remember Smoke's moves you will probably remember Riptor from Killer Instinct. If you know what I mean to pull off combos with Riptor on the SNES he was very hard to use unless you had the roll your thumb forwards and backwards down pat because I could not use him well. I hope you have a good idea what I mean and I think Geninja is that type of character. You have to get him down very well to use him in Smash. He is not made for newbie players. He is made for the hands of an expert XD.:)

Lolwut I hardly use Water Shuriken because it's just not good. It's good for shooting a few % on your opponent when they don't expect it but that's definitely not a main move of Greninja. My Greninja play is far from perfect but even I know that would be just plain stupid. Greninja is pretty good, don't let the noobs online fool you.

I would just practice with Geninja to get his moveset down and practice doing advanced moves.:)

I think I misspoke. What I meant was that I don't think Greninja is low tier, I just haven't seen anyone do well with him.

It might be because no one is used to his type of move set yet. It has only been 2 days XD. It might take awhile to get used to since people are ending up with broken 3DS's. They are probably trying to find away to avoid breaking the stick and probably using the D-pad instead since sticks are breaking a lot XD. Give people time to practice the characters. It will take awhile to get used to.:)

This is true; however, keep in mind that the game has already been out in Japan for a month, and it doesn't take long to get people down.

Also little Mac's recovery is piss poor. Like, it's wolf-tier bad. He's a star on the ground, but the second you're off the ledge you're done.

He'll probably still be low high tier though because his ground game is just that good.

"Low high tier" took a while for my sleepy brain to process. Also, what tiers would Greninja and Ganondorf be? I'm kinda liking Ganondorf now.

I think Greninja's been doing some sick stuff in Japan, so I wouldn't count him out just yet. I'm not sure exactly what, but still. I hear him mentioned occasionally as a candidate for high/top along such usual suspects as Zamus, Sheik, Bowser, etc.

Little Mac benefits from the lack of platforms on FD, in an actual tournament setting and not For Glory, he'll probably be high at best.

Ganondorf... I haven't really heard of any noticeable improvements since Brawl, nor have I heard of any of his moves auto-cancelling (and based on a quick test, none of them do). That means he's probably doomed for bottom once more. I love Ganon, but his main problem will always be his approach options. The reason he was decent in Melee was because L-cancelling his moves had such an impact on his game speed, and getting one good combo in as Ganon was basically identical to getting 2 or 3 in with most other characters in terms of damage and killing potential. In a game with better projectiles, better B-approaches, auto-cancelled aerials and a lot of aerial mobility, I don't see him doing well at all.

This is of course at high levels, Ganon's a very easy character to pick up and play at mid levels because his punish game is amazing against predictable or spammy opponents who don't know what spacing is or how to approach without committing. It's the same reason Ike is a noobhero but will probably be very low on the tiers list.

I've been doing quite well with Greninja. It does take some time to get used to his style of play. I use Greninja frequently in Smash Runs. I've also had good success at using Charizard.

Lucina is the best character and there's no disputing it.

Nah Lucina, to be exact.

Don't deny it.
