Marth in D tier? What is the world coming to?

That D-Tier tho. It's chock full of decent fighters. So, yeah. The tier list kind of surprised me, wasn't expecting to cards to fall the way they did.

What I'm really surprised at is that Sonic is so high and that there is such a big difference between Fox and Falco. Wish it was the other way around because I find Falco's design much more pleasing and I would learn him if he switched places with Fox. (Never played SF games so design is all I can base my opinions on with them.)

Also, remember that this list only applies at very high levels of play where the players utilize their characters to their fullest potential. Tier lists hardly matter when you are casual or play against casuals. Also, tier lists at this point are still fully subject to change, as you can't assume that those who made that list have had enough time to learn every character perfectly. As you can see from the scores even the makers of the list had different opinions on how good characters are.

But what it does give for sure is some orientation. Like we can safely assume that anything in A and B is better than anything in D or E for sure.

Early tier list often have some serious flaws, so don't take any specific placing too seriously. The overal trends are probably correct, though. Marth and Lucina have an awesomely strong shieldbreaker, but that's about it. Their ground game isn't necessarily better than anyone else's, and none of their aerials auto-cancel, which means they don't have a safe aerial approach option. What you basically want is to have as little commitment as possible when attacking. Since Marth can't dashdance, can't safely attack from the air, doesn't have an insane grab range, and can't use any other approach options he's sort of limited as a character now. Marth used to be all about spacing, but you can just bait out attacks and punish now like it's not even a big deal. Sonic on the other hand has a lot of approach options now, most of them being low risk and able to cause quite a bit of damage.

That being said, there are also some things which I think are Japan-specific about that specific tier list, most notable to me are that Yoshi is in the top tier and Puff being below average. Japan has some pretty good Yoshi players, and Melee Puff has never been as popular there.

And yeah, at low level play these things don't really matter, and even then they're usually quite match-up dependant.

No way Shulk is right next to Ganon -- when used correctly, man that dude is awesome. His riposte is one of the best I've seen, KOing in the low numbers under his Smash boost. Ironically enough, however, I've gotten some play out of Palutena, and I've had moderate success, even though my Ganon track record is quite dismal! The guy hits like a truck on steroids, but he is slower than a melting stick of butter on a hill. :p

I also really like Charizard. He seems quite capable to KO things, especially with Flare Blitz, an attack that strikes up to twenty-nine on the first blow, albeit easy to counter via simply blocking. It also feels like his Rock Smash has been nerfed quite a bit, and his midair flaps are not as they were. In fact, several of my own deaths were from me being knocked down, leading to his poor aerial recovery. Flare Blitz is also quite amazing at side recovery, so perhaps it's for the better that he doesn't have that much of an aerial recovery, ironically.

Dark Pit is also quite good, and I like him better than regular Pit on most occasions. He has more finishing power at the sacrifice of some speed and a worse bow, but I'm okay with that because his recovery is unbelievable. Plus, his Final Smash is better.

Rosalina and Luma also has to be one of the most irritating characters to face with a ranged character (such as Dark Pit, Samus or Palutena, in my desperate attempts to find out if I could make her good). Luma's hitbox is at the right height to make projectiles hit it instead of Rosalina, so nearly every one of my attacks that I was saving for that KO, or just even some of Samus' missiles, went to Luma instead. Building up damage is the hardest thing to do against this character. Once Luma was defeated, I figured Rosalina would be somewhat defenseless without the star, but as it turns out I only broke the shell to reveal the equally hard nut. It's quite impressive just how fast and hard hitting she can be. Easily an A rank character.

I've had the opportunity to fight with a Little Mac main over Wi Fi, and I can attest to his ground game. Even though I've managed to dodge all his KO Punches, leading me to doubt its viability in the long run as those dodges allowed me to find some openings to strike back, his Side Special was quite impressive as it armored almost everything I had (I was playing Dark Pit at the time). I found that Charizard was the one that could really put a hurt on the boxer, as I could repeatedly knock him into the air with Dashes and Smashes for easy damage, and intercept him with Flare Blitz and Rock Smash every time he tried to get close enough to me to deal damage on the ground.

Palutena, though, can be good if they allow custom moves in tournaments as her custom moves are actually quite impressive when used correctly. Although, I must state that she is quite punishable if she whiffs almost any of her Smash attacks, Grabs or even her standard specials.

Bowser below Yoshi.
Shulk in lowest tier.
Duck Hunt in B.

Let me quote the signature of the guy above me with a hearty hhhehehe.

Silly less-than-a-month tier lists.

I never knew Yoshi was that good. I should try him out, huh? Oh, and is there any way to help me remember to use DH's down special sometime? I barely even know what it does.

Edit: lol I didn't know there was a new page lol. I was still on the previous page

Duck Hunt's Down-B is pretty underwhelming, really. The main thing I've seen it used for is to start off a game and hit cans that are further out and in a dangerous zone.

I'm sure more uses will be found in time, but right now it seems best to stick to Clay and Can.

Oh, I have another DH question. Is there any way to cancel the recovery? I don't wanna just fly up out of control being pulled by a psychotic duck that looks like its dognapping and making passionate butt love to the dog simultaneously while everyone else is throwin bombs, rockets, and giant fists at me. While I wait for the answer, I think I'll go practice using DH, Yoshi, Greninja, Rosalina, and either Jigglypuff, Lucina, or Villager.

Does it work like the star item that is used for bashing opponents? Like the item that slams your opponents in Melee where it makes you fly upwards and then slams your character on any player in the way? Does it work like that?:)

Does what work like that? I'm confused... You mean the Wild Gunman? Or Trick Shot and Clay Pigeon Shooting?

The move you were using? Does it work like that star item in Melee or does it work in another type of way to use the move?:)

According to the in-game tips, once you start the recovery with Duck Hunt there is no way to stop it.

Oh, you mean the Warp Star? That's in all games. Also, learning the names of items would be rather helpful, y'know. And, no, it doesn't. That's why I said I'm basically helpless as everyone else comes charging at me ready to kill.

Sorry Man. I forgot the name of the item. Anyway I was thinking that the move might work like that. About the recovery can you disable recovery somewhere in the options? You might be able to turn off recovery from anything but not sure how the options have changed compared to now. If you really want to do it get a device to turn it off. Mods don't freak out. Was just a suggestion. If you guys think it is bad IO will remove that part.:)

Wait, so you're asking if there's an option to disable recovery moves? And devices to turn it off? I'm so confused... You mean I should hack my game to make it so recovery is impossible? Oh god I'm so confused.

I was asking if there is an option to turn that off. If you really want to turn it off badly then get a cheat device. If not then there is no way to do it I guess.:)

What you can do is unlock the custom moves for Duck Hunt and see if any options suit you better, but you just can''t use those online then.

I wasn't asking to turn it off, I was just asking if there was a way to cancel mid flight rather than go all the way up.

Edit: Okay so I was training in... well.. Training, and I was using Pac-Man on the PAC-MAZE and I discovered that when it zooms into certain characters, it'll cut into them. For example, play as Pac-Man and zoom into him. It's the same for small characters being next to some large ones (such as Bowser and Charizard). Even some moves zoomed in as anyone can cut into them, exposing their innards. Anyway, I just figured this would be fun to point out, and it may also work on Balloon Trip and possibly Flat Zone 2

And we finally have release dates for the Wii U version! Nov. 21 for the States, Dec. 5 for Europe and Oz. Honestly, it's rather sooner than I was expecting given how long it's been to announce the dates. Also, disappointed that Europe's getting it a few weeks late, again. At least I don't feel quite so bad about holding back on the 3DS version now. Amiibos are coming out around the same time, too.
