Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U

Robin is the playable avatar from the newest installment of the FE series. He/She (you can pick gender along with name and customizing physical attributes when starting the game) is a main character in the game and functions something like a PC, since he/she is effectively designed by the player. Robin is available from the very beginning, is not allowed to die, and plays a crucial role in the game's plot, despite not being a Lord (Lord being the typical class for the main character of an FE game; in this case, Chrom and Lucina are both Lords with Chrom being the main Lord). Robin is also unique in the sense that he/she starts out being able to use both Magic and Swords; traditionally in FE characters are either fighters or mages and very rarely do they mix (though some later available prestige classes do offer the availability to use magic and a weapons as well). The aspect Robin mentions about tomes being used up references in-game mechanics in FE; almost all weapons and magic tomes in various FE games have a certain amount of uses before they break, with weaker things having more uses and some powerful ones only allowed to be used maybe 5-10 times.

Lucina is another character from FE:A. She is a secondary Lord who appears early in the game but does not actually become playable until later. She initially appears as a masked fighter and takes the name of Marth, only to later be unmasked as a woman with her identity revealed (though there's more to her identity than just her gender and name, I won't spoil it here since it's plot-relevant). Because of her connection to Marth, I originally thought that she might replace Marth as an available character in SSB, or appear as a different skin for him; they're also both fast characters with smaller builds. I would be disappointed but not surprised if she ends up being simply a Marth clone, though I do hope that there will be something that distinguishes them.

Chrom, despite being the main character of FE:A seems to only be in the game in Robin's final smash.

Wait...so if Chrom is part of Robin's final smash that means that if I use female Robin and access her final smash my OTP can battle together!! Also for you non FE players you can marry your characters in game (well some characters can't marry certain other characters), and in my run with the female Robin I had her marry Chrom, they're love story is so cute and kinda kinky. Anyways I like how they sort of acknowledged the fans shipping of Robin and Chrom.

With the Wii Fit Trainers, the male and female Robins, the Villagers, and Little Mac, varying their appearances and voices works just like selecting alternate color variations. However, whenever there is even a small difference in abilities, that character gets an actual roster slot. That is why you can select Lucina individually.

Along with Robin, Lucina joins the battle!! Her physical ablilites are identical to Marth's--it must be in her D.N.A. However, where Marth's power is concentrated in the tip of the sword, Lucina's attack strength is balanced throughout the weapon, which might make her easier to control. She's also a little bit shorter than Marth.

>be Marth
>have no sweet spot
>take up a character slot which could have been Klonoa, you bastards

Lucina confirmed for worthless

Robin, on the other hand, looks like a pretty dope guy and I can't wait to give her a try.

...or some representation from advance wars... you know, that really great series that's had like four installments and not once has there been a dud... and that nobody freaking ever seems to bring up in speculation discussions... no? still getting capt falcon, little mac and fifty billion FE characters? okaaaay theeen :[

Who is Robin and what games is he from and where does Lucina Come from or whatever his name is. Also to the previous poster I cannot read your post. I can't read size 4. please print in size 14 so it is legible to read. Thanks. Mods we need a rule for this as well. If anyone posts small print we need warnings for this. No one can read it. Thanks.:)

Robin and Lucina are both from the strategy role-playing game series Fire Emblem, specifically the newest installment in the series, Fire Emblem: Awakening for the 3DS. If you want details about those characters, you're welcome to read my post up above where I detailed both of them for another user's request.

Also, we do not have rules against people using different sizes and colours of fonts. If you have difficult reading a particular post, the easiest solution is to quote the post and read it in the reply screen so that you can see it without any added code, including size or colours.

so i can post like this?
Wow. That's actually pretty cool. Anyway, i just realized Sakurai said they're running out of newcomer videos, but that technically doesnt mean we wont see anymore videos or characters added.

That last installment was pretty "meh" if you ask me, but Advances Wars characters would be an interesting idea to throw in, especially if they were projectile or disjoint-hitbox heavy (moves utilizing the war units from the series instead of their physical bodies). There was an assist trophy of Advance Wars in Brawl, so they proved that it could be done.

Seriously FE only has 4 reps. You don't see anyone blowing a fuse over the amount of Pokemon, Mario, and Zelda reps. The way I see it Sakurai is choosing characters that were either veterans, company mascots, or characters of a major series. Fire Emblem has always had a massive following and with the immense success that FE Awakening had worldwide, they were not gonna miss out on an opportunity like that. Yes Lucina looks a lot and seems to play a bit similar to Marth, and Chrom probably would've made a better choice, but there are so many other characters Sakurai could've added to the SSB4 like Manaketes and Taguels (dragon and animal shapeshifters). In fact he should've added them just to add an even greater variety of fighting style. Sakurai is playing on characters with very big names that have significance to video games, so very successful games will get some good type of representation.

So I believed it was confirmed today as a Pic of the Day that Robin's tomes rotate depending on which special attack is used. I guess that means Up-B would be one thing and Down-B would be another. It was also said that the Levin sword is activated by the use of a smash attack on the ground and midair, but the sword will break after a while.

I'm not "blowing a fuse" by saying that I'm disappointed FE has this much representation and AW has zilch. Jesus, it was clearly a casual post that I didn't put much thought into, but you gotta get all Captain No Fun up my ass? Chill out lol

Oh hey Zyflair

So, what? FE isn't allowed to have more than 2 characters at a time or something? Also, this is probably me being stupid, but what's AW?

Fire Emblem doesn't really deserve 4 characters, lol. And AW stands for Advance Wars, the game he mentioned in his original post.

Excuse me? Why wouldn't Fire Emblem deserve 4 characters, if anything it should have had 4+ since Brawl. The Fire Emblem series is fantastic and has a butt ton of cool, important, memorable characters that could add more diversity to the Smash series. Not only that but I bet Fire Emblem has either the same amount or more dedicated players compared to Advance Wars, especially considering Fire Emblem has been around much longer and has a huge following in Japan. Now I'm not saying Advance Wars shouldn't have any reps at all, It would be cool to see how those characters can be implemented in Smash. However, I don't know anything about anything about Advance Wars characters or gameplay. I do know that Fire Emblem does deserve these slots, however.

I can think of 5 characters off of the top of my head that would make better choices than Robin. It just strikes me as a little odd that as of this moment, FE has as many characters in the game that Pokemon does, and FE doesn't even come close to that series in terms of popularity. Calm down dude.

In his defense, you were mercilessly laughing at his opinion, and he's only defending his point. In terms of popularity, Pokemon has had a huge head start from its long-established franchise, but Fire Emblem Awakening has sold over a million copies globally (the total sales for the latest two Advanced Wars games didn't go past six figures). If we're going to take about character slots be reserved for popular games, Captain Falcon, Ness, and Lucas shouldn't even make the roster since Brawl.

On a side note, I'm rather surprised that you're attacking Robin out of the four; at least he's not a pure swordsman.

I was picking on Robin since I suppose he/she isn't as easily as recognizable as, say, Marth when concerning Fire Emblem. That certainly doesn't mean I don't think he/she'll be an interesting character to play as, especially since those tomes(?) don't last for the entire battle.

And I never stated that I wanted an Advance Wars character put into smash, simply that I think 4 FE characters is a little bit of overkill.

If there's anything I've learned from Smash Bros releases it's that people will always want more character representations from franchises they like while thinking there should be less characters from franchises they dislike or think are inferior.

Essentially what Athena said. Besides, you could argue about the over-representation of FE however you like, but I'm fairly certain more people in Smash Brothers community would recognize Robin than those who'd know Little Mac. Franchise representation is obviously going to be skewed and quite honestly, Fire Emblem has reached that point where it's a "big" franchise.

Yes, when will nintendo wake up and put the goddamn Batman and Scorpion in SSB? It's what everyone has been asking since like 10 years.

I tell you, nintendo is blind and deaf to the desperate pleas of we, their faithful, oft-abused customers. Let's boycott nintendo!

Yes, this is, indeed,sarcasm... just in case you are already going to type your angry response.

Nature of the beast, essentially. It all boils down to personal preference.
