Talkin' Baseball: The MLB Discussion Thread

Controversial call in last night's Athletics v. Indians game. What looked like a game-tying HR in the top of the 9th by Oakland was ruled a ground-rule double, then that call was upheld by the review.

Everyone's up in arms and some are calling for the 9th to be re-played with the score tied 4-4.

Just like in the infamous Armando Galarraga "Imperfect Game," the MLB stated that the umpires blew the call, but a judgment decision would not be reversed. Tough break for the A's.

Also, Roy Halladay is going under the knife. He's questionable to pitch again this season.

The game stood, but MLB officials knew it was the wrong call.

Oakland got teed off on by Cleveland, losing earlier today 9-2.

And for the 3rd time since 1967, there will be two CY Young pitchers taking on each other in Toronto's R.A Dickey and Tampa Bay's David Price.

And even more unusual, both Cy Young winners are struggling mightily so far this season.

Dickey I think was a consensus pick to struggle, but David Price sure wasn't one of those predicted.

It's normal for some aces so start slowly out of the gate, but while others have begun to put things together, neither has really shown signs of reversing those trends.

Another controversy in the MLB last night. The Angels protested a pitching change by the Houston Astros, in which Houston made a pitching change, and then made another one before that first substitution made a pitch.

The umpire said that wasn't illegal, and the Angels played the rest of the game under protest.

Tribe won the first game today, but lost the 2nd. Offense wasn't good at all today. 1 run in 18 innings. Hopefully we smash the Phillies again.

A little past one year after throwing the 21st perfect game in MLB history, Houston Astros' pitcher Phillip Humber was designated for assignment.

Humber was 0-8 with a 9+ ERA this season for Houston.

To be completely specific Humber has a 9.59 ERA this season in 8 starts.

Right on, an MLB thread! I grew up a Dodger fan, but I also have a soft spot for the Tampa Bay Rays. (Liked both teams around the same time). Looking forward to talking Baseball with everyone here... I'm also looking forward to getting out of the NL West cellar.

Is that where the inspiration for your username came from?

Toronto beat San Francisco last night; 10-6. R.A. Dickey notched his 3rd win of the season, in probably his best pitching performance against the season (6 IP, 6 H, 2R [2 ER], 2 BB, 10K's).

The Jays chased Barry Zito's pitches and pounded 6 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning.

He'll have to have those big strikeout performances in order to continue to improve. They were a signature of his Cy Young-winning season last year.

If Dickey can notch consecutive high K ratios for his outings, the Jays should hopefully take advantage of them and win more games.

Bryce Harper and the Nats dodged a bullet after Harper crashed into the wall nearly full speed giving chase to a ball in the air. He managed to avoid a concussion, any structural damage, and any internal injuries, and remains day-to-day.

He took a very bad hit into the outfield wall, hitting the scoreboard area.

You're right; he and his team should be lucky that nothing seriously bad happened.

Yes, Evan Longoria was an inspiration for my username. In other news, Jonathan Sanchez signs with the Dodgers pending a physical...We have become desperate for pitching...
