Talkin' Baseball: The MLB Discussion Thread

MLB Season so far:
-Bench-clearing Brawl
-Triple Play
-Perfect game taken away on the 3rd out of the 9th

By the time October rolls around there won't be any good plays left x_x

Last year it seemed like there so many perfect games/no hitters. Maybe it was just me though.

My early picks:

Athletics
Tigers
Orioles
WC: Rangers, Rays

Diamondbacks (In my heart, yeah I know. If not them, then the Giants.)
Cardinals
Braves
WC: Nationals, Reds

dmaster out.

Gallardo got rocked again by the Cardinals and Cy Wainwright went the distance while recording 12 Ks in the win today over the Poo Crew.

EDIT: And Waino got three hits himself.

Well, since I'm a sports fan might as well give a knock on early season picks:

AL
East: Red Sox (either them or Baltimore that wins the division)
Central: Tigers (they're the only good team out of their division unless the White Sox pulls out a Tebow)
West: Athletics (1 of my favorite teams out of the AL West and they got the Rangers to contend with)

NL
East: Braves/Nats (they're about even 50/50 at the moment)
Central: Reds (they're the team to beat this time around especially now that Houston is gone(not that they were a threat to their postseason hopes) but the Pirates have gotten a lil better (they woulda made the playoffs last year had they not slumped during the season)
West: Giants (defending champs are bound to repeat again unless the Dodgers are the hype they think they are)

That's the fun thing about the NL, when the pitchers get hits. Even better when they somehow manage to go yard, like Clayton Kershaw did on Opening Day.

Glad I'm not alone in my thinking with the Red Sox. Not that I think they're anything special, but the AL East is up for grabs for once, and if Lester returns to form and Buchholz puts things together for a full season, the Red Sox could be surprising some people this year.

EDIT: Just square the ball up and anyone can go yard on a 90 MPH fastball.

True. If you put a pitch in the center of the strike zone too and it's begging to be sent back from whence it came.

Red Sox have really upgraded from last year for sure then again if the AL East is up for grabs then why are than Yankees and Blue Jays getting off to a bad start? Plus I'm pulling for the Red Sox I got a feeling this is their year (hopefully)

Then again its too early to tell.

Just joined the forums a couple hours ago.

Good pitchers duel going on in Miami between Hamels and future ace hopeful Jose Fernandez. Hamels is no-hitting the Marlins through 4.

EDIT: Aaand it's gone

Yep, and in fact, it was Fernandez himself who knocked in the run. Hamels sucks. Dropping him from my fantasy team.

The Athletics had won 9 in a row (since game 3 of the series against the Mariners) but today they lost against the Tigers.

Dickey so far has played his best game as a Blue Jay.

He went 6 1/3 IP, and gave up one run. Toronto is nursing a 3-1 lead over Kansas City.

Pujols saves the Angels from the dubious honor of becoming tied with the Marlins and Padres for worst record in the majors.

Toronto got the win, and Dickey got his first victory as a Blue Jay, as Toronto beat Kansas City 3-2. Casey Janssen picked up his 3rd save of the season.

Im not surprised the Angels are off to a slow start. This happens 9 times out of 10 when you have superstar teams. The Heat had a tough first season with the Big 3 and won the next year. Marlins are just plain awful always, but last year they actually had some chance at a wild card (in the beginning)

Toronto lost their chance to get to .500 for the first time this season, but Kansas City prevented the sweep; beating the Blue Jays 3-2 on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the 9th.

Loss for Toronto goes to reliever Darren Oliver (0-1).

Well, now Derek Jeter will be out until around the All-Star Break after a new fracture in his ankle has been discovered.
