RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 15

I'm at Lumiose too now; it looks like I've caught up to you! Let's see who can get to Laverre first ^^

I have a very difficult time navigating Lumiose. North and South Boulevards aren't that bad, but the spoke and side streets confuse me greatly and I get lost pretty easily. Now I'm having double the difficulty because I can't tell which things I remember because I've already seen them as Jessie and which things I remember from my original playthrough! :p

My answer: draw a map! Seriously, if there isn't any map like the ones from the PokéNav, get one or do one yourself with the places of interest.

Btw, I forgot to ask but since you've write that chapter, then your cat is doing better?

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 15

It's not a matter of map or no. I did that originally and it didn't help. Part of it is the goofy camera and angles, part is the fact that everything outwardly looks very similar (except for a couple key places), part is the fact that it's radial instead of grid pattern, part of it is the fact that so many things lead to other places instead of dead-ending so it's hard to tell where you've already been. It's just annoying. :p

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 15

I remember seeing here one artwork showing Lumiose and it was confusing just looking from the outside, having two of each entrances sharing the same arch or entrance design and with Lumiose's tower looking the same from three sides. Good luck, then.

Seems like you're not the only only (this guy also made a map):

PS: they should have created a cab system in Lumiose where you would select one destiny from all the places, containing a short description and pay a fee, instead of the Gogoat.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 15

Just use the Lumi Cab 'Thena, it's much easier than finding your way through the metropolistic nightmare that is Lumiose :p

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 15

Cab only takes you to some places, though, I'm pretty sure. Like I want to make sure I talk to all the random people and do all the buildings and such, not just stores and restaurants. Though I do use the cabs frequently to get to places I've already been, like the PokéBall store and the Salon and such.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 15

Haven't seen this in ages (guilty, I know).
Anyway, here's my opinion: Do not try to wander around Lumiose for now. Personally, I learned to navigate Lumiose during the Looker side story. Until then, I had made efforts, but I couldn't find where I was the last time I entered.

Chapter 16: Return to Lumiose City

I waved goodbye to James/Shauna and headed off to wander around the city once again. Now that the power plant was working as usual, stores on the north side of Lumiose were opening left and right. I had a wonderful lunch at a small, cute café and took a detour to get a new hairdo, longer and darker this time. To celebrate my new look, I also decided to make a new PR video for myself. Don't I just look fabulous?

The main fashion boutique still wouldn't let me in (the nerve!) so I consoled myself with an ice cream and wandered around the art museum. As I looked at all the fancy paintings, I couldn't help but try and figure out the worth of each of them and which would be the best to steal. Perhaps my intentions showed on my face because the security guards kept staring at me and eventually I left empty-handed. As the evening wore on, I grew tired of wandering around, and a bit footsore, so I stopped by a different café for dinner and then turned in for the night at the Pokémon Center near the heart of the city. In the morning, I'd be fresh and ready to challenge the gym.

The next morning, I entered the Prism Tower bright-eyed and ready for battle. To my surprise, the gym's gimmick was... tests. Ugh, I hate tests. I consistently failed the various questions, but at least it allowed me to challenge more trainers to give my Pokémon a good workout. Finally, the questions were over and I was allowed to battle Clemont... if only his stupid little sister would stop jabbering and let us fight. I bet the stupid quiz was her idea, too.

I opened up with Gabite, figuring he could absorb any Lightning-type hits that come his way, and take down Emolga with a few well-placed Dragon Claws. When Clemont swapped to Magnemite, I switched in Lucario and Mega-evolved him to take down both Magnemite and Heliolisk. Lucario was limping a bit by the time the battle was done, but I thanked her gracefully as I accepted the badge and TM from Clemont and his annoying interfering brat of a sister.

I was about to celebrate my win with another ice cream when I got a holoclip from Prof. Furry calling me to visit Chaos Jackal's Café. I followed his directions, which led me to an imposing red building built in an alley off of one of the squares. A couple Team Flare members were loitering outside, and I set my mouth in a grim line as I entered the café to meet up with the professor and his strange buddy. Both congratulated me on my successes before launching into a story about Kalos's past. Jackal admitted to being a descendent of Kalos's royalty, and I couldn't help but admire the man in a bit better light knowing that. He condemned the final king's actions of destruction, though admitted that they had done some good in the world as well. Looking at him as he made his speech, surrounded by this red café and the Team Flare member who claim to love it here, I couldn't help but make some connections...

Chaos Jackal gave me a gift after his story and left the café before I could get a word in, standing there dumbfaced with Prof. Furry. We had a small conversation about Jackal, but the professor didn't seem to share my suspicions. After all, the two men were good friends, though often people are blind about the people they care about the most. I said my goodbyes to the professor and left, my stomach queasy, but not queasy enough to stop me from grabbing that ice cream...

Highlights/Notes/Thoughts:

I did end up wandering around Lumiose City, following a specific pattern in hopes of not getting too lost. Of course, I hardly remember anything I saw or did, so I guess it was kind of a waste of time anyway. I did get a few TMs and some other items, though, and I won a Moomoo Milk in the lotto thing.

I was about evenly leveled with the trainers in the gym, but I really didn't feel like wandering around leveling, so I just fought all of the trainers by purposefully getting the questions wrong. I can't imagine Jessie would have gotten them right anyway, considering how poorly she did in the one Pokémon school episode in the Indigo League season. It was type match-ups that let me win against Clemont, and even then, Lucario really was hurting at the end. I'll do some more leveling on the next route probably. Totally not trying to get a shiny Goomy or Bellsprout, nope, not at all. *innocent whistling*

I was originally planning on making a customized PR video for Jessie, but... it seemed way too complicated, so I just did one of the basic ones again. Maybe I will at some point when I'm less lazy.

However, I have yet to mention the most important thing: my WT from Route 14.

I received.... an Ekans!

I almost kind of feel like I have to fit this into my party, but I don't want to kick anyone out, either. :< Opinions?

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 16

I would actually suggest swapping Raichu for Ekans. Jessie doesn't really like Pikachu because she spent half of her life trying to get one for her boss. Surely, she wouldn't be interested in keeping a relative for long. Gabite is another option because Garchomp doesn't seem like a 'Jessie' Pokémon IMO.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 16

Raichu was the first I thought of, yeah, even though he's pretty cool and all. That might be the best option I have, I think.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 16

I agree with replacing Raichu, it does seem like the best option :p
In other news, I finally updated my PoV :p

Since I'm out of "likes" for today, I have to say that I support this! Let's just hope that Ekans doesn't end up like Froslass! -_-'

By Dialga, it's been ages since coming to this thread. In Blaine's gym I also get the answers wrong on purpose in order to train my Pokémon, but it also made sense that Jessie wouldn't get them right! I still remember that episode about a Trainer's school where there was a visual test with shadowed Pokémon in which one was just a circle and everone (myself included) thought it was either Voltorb or Electrode and it was actually a Jigglypuff seen from the top! :p

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 16

I have decided to replace Raichu with Ekans, yes. Raichu seems to have served his given purpose well enough by now, and the replacement is symbolically pleasing.

I haven't been updating since I've injured myself. The pain and discomfort are making me irritable which makes video games... not a good way to spend my time. I have neither forgotten nor abandoned this, though.

Llllllllllllol, since Raichu is based on a mouse, it could have been eaten by Ekans...there you have its ultimate purpose! Jessie would love to see that happening! :p :D
I wish you a speedy recovery! :)

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 16

Now that I'm mostly feeling better, I've started playing again, working on training up Jessie's Ekans Arbok in Battle Chateau for a bit before moving on with Route 14. I hope to have an update in in the next week or so, but there's a lot of leveling left, plus actual, you know, gameplay and stuff. Just thought I'd let you all know that I am, indeed, back at it. :p

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 15

Wild update appears!

Chapter 17: A Fairwell to Fairies

I woke up in my room at the Pokémon Center groggy and disoriented. A night of partying (and eating!) in Lumiose City meant that I'd long overslept. My alarm was buzzing next to my pillow, and my transporter also alerted me to the fact that I'd received a new Pokémon while I slept. It must have simply auto-transferred to the PC while I was snoozing. I yawned and started preparing for my day, almost not recognizing my new hairdo in the mirror, long and glossy black. I badly missed my natural red, but it was too conspicuous.

I went down to the PC lobby and figured I would check out my new Pokémon before wandering off to find some breakfast. My eyes scanned over my stored Pokémon until I spotted a small, purple snake towards the bottom of the screen. My heart leapt, an Ekans! Surely it couldn't be my old Pokémon of old; Ekans had evolved into Arbok some time ago, long before I had released him to take care of some wild Ekans that James and I had freed. However, just seeing it coiled up there brought back memories long suppressed, and I quickly swapped in Raichu to bring Ekans onto my team.

Ekans was young and weak, so I knew it would take some time before he would be strong enough to keep up with the rest of the team. As such, I decided to dedicate a day to training him to bring him up to speed. We battled with trainers and wild Pokémon alike, learning new moves and growing more powerful by the minute. Just as I was about to call it a day, Ekans evolved into an Arbok right in front of my eyes! Remembering how hard I had worked to evolve my earlier Ekans, I couldn't help but reflect for a bit on how much I've grown as a trainer over the years as I ate a late dinner at one of Lumiose's cafés. With a full belly and tired muscles from the day of training, I decided to stay in Lumiose again overnight and continue traveling in the morning.

It was overcast and smelling like rain the next day when I left Lumiose, heading north on Route 14 to Laverre City and the next gym. The weird twirps were all hanging around and waiting for me, including James, still in that ridiculous costume. As expected, none of them even noticed my new hair or clothes, and Ash challenged me to another battle, though I beat him soundly. Afterwards, James asked us all to go join him in visiting a haunted house deeper in the path. Ash declined, but the others want to meet there, so I reluctantly agreed, mostly just to get them to leave me alone.

Right after exiting the playground at the beginning of the route, the rain broke. And just as I thought things wouldn't get any worse, I entered the swamp. Great. It looked like Route 14 was going to be a messy, disgusting path, but I'd need to make my through it to get to the next city, so I just plodded on, beating the trainers in my path. Arbok was proving to be a good addition to my team and was fighting with the other Pokémon well.

Eventually I made it to the haunted house. By this point, I was actually glad that I'd agreed to go, since it meant getting out of the rain for a bit. Inside, an old guy told us a short, terrible ghost story and then asked for money. I rolled my eyes and exited without giving him a dime, eager to keep moving.

After most of a day's worth of hiking through mud and ick, the sun finally came out again, drying the mess on my clothes and skin just as I made it within the Laverre City limits. I spied a clothing boutique and almost ran inside, eager to buy some new clothes and change out of what I was wearing. The clothing was cute and colourful and I quickly had a new outfit ready. I stopped by the PC to refresh my Pokémon and bathe before changing my clothes, and then I finally felt clean enough to look through the city.

Laverre was a cute, small city with lots of trees and houses. I noted the location of the gym, but I found myself drawn to the northern part of the city where a Poké Ball factory was located. While I can't pinpoint what exactly called me there, I was surprised to spot a Team Flare grunt hanging around outside, keeping people from entering. My curiosity was peaked, but he would tell me nothing interesting, and I could find no other way into the building, so I thought to ignore it for now, and instead headed back to the gym.

The Laverre Gym was as cute as its clothing, a doll house like structure filled with fashionable girls. While I got lost easily among the warp tiles, I beat all trainers I came across, and I eventually made it to the gym leader before getting too frustrated. The leader herself, Valerie, was very pretty, but also somewhat flighty. Although I was nervous to battle her, the battle actually went very smoothly. I opened up with Lucario and Mega Evolved him to take care of Valerie's Mawile and Mr. Mime, then swapped out to Skarmory to take care of her final Pokémon, a strong Sylveon. I felt worn out and sweaty after the battle was finally over, but Valerie had not a single hair out of place and was perfectly poised as she gave me my badge and a TM for my efforts. Someday, I hope to be that glamorous.

As I was exiting the gym, I unfortunately happened to the meet the eyes of the twerps who were waiting outside for me. James invited me to join them all in visiting the Poké Ball Factory, and I was about to decline, when I remembered the Team Flare grunt. Surely there was something interesting in there, and I'd look like conspicuous in a group than I would alone, so I decided to agree. I was tired from a morning filled with trudging through swamps culminating in a difficult gym battle, but curiosity was a powerful motivator. After a quick lunch, we agreed to head up together, and perhaps then I could figure out what Team Flare was hiding this time...

Highlights/Notes/Thoughts:

The early parts of Route 14, including the battle with Ash, actually happened before I started this chapter. I had wanted to get to Route 14 to see my new Pokémon and I had forgotten that I would need to see the scene and do the battle before I could encounter any wild Pokémon. Of course that was, uh, over a month ago now, so I don't remember it very well. So if you're wondering why there's so little detail in that part, now you know.

Ekans came in at level 1 and needed a lot of training, so I slapped a Lucky Egg on him and did a couple day's worth of Battle Chateau. The first day was enough to bring him to 22 and evolve, and the second day brought him up to 34, so I felt confident enough to start navigating the route at that point.

I was originally planning on using Arbok in the Gym Battle, but ended up changing my mind when I looked at Valerie's Pokémon again. Mawile's Steel-type gives it immunity to Poison, and Arbok was weak to Mr. Mime's Psychic side, so I ended up going for Mega Lucario, swapping out for Skarmory to absorb Sylveon's Dazzling Gleam attacks. I was really paranoid going into this battle because of how easily Valerie's Sylveon decimated my team during my initial playthough which is why I played it so safe, but it ended up being a relatively easy battle all things considered.

No new Pokémon at the end of today's chapter since Flare grunts block the opening to Route 15 until I beat the Poké Ball factory, but I should have another one at the end of the next chapter for R15 and then again for R16, so it's pretty exciting.

Very glad to get back on track with this. :)
