Playthrough Team Rocket's Revenge - Complete!

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 17

I wouldn't understand you losing 4 Pokémon but I had a hard time with Cheren in my B2 walkthrough (I lost 3 times before winning the 4th and thanks to Mareep's Thunder Wave) and I'm now replaying Emerald and Wattson also gave me a hard time and in both cases I soft-reseted (in one of the battles my Shroomish really couldn't landed a Stun Spore in Voltorb, and in the next I had forgotten (but was planning to) to give it a Quick Claw -_- ).
All that said...you really are filling some Pokémon Tower or whatever it's named in Kalos! Just pray that the ghosts of those poor souls don't come back to haunt you!

PS: Athena, have you seen by any chance an Absol or perhaps a Murkrow!?

Nope, though that would have certainly explained things. :p

I'm working on building up and leveling my newcomers (and my oldcomers a bit more, too), but when I post the next chapter up, you'll get the full story.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 17

A long chapter, and most of it is abstract flavour to explain the loss of my Pokémon and subsequent retraining. Because some of the things that actually happened in game wouldn't make sense in context, most of the account below is fictionalized, though I explain the actual happenings (more or less) in my notes below.

Chapter 18: The Lost Calamity

Drunk on victory and with a nearly-healed team, I headed up to the Poké Factory where James and the other twerps were waiting. To my surprise, as I was walking up the path, I hear the sound of James's girlish screaming as he races down the path to the town below, following closely by a Team Flare grunt. I had no idea what was going on, but it seems like Ash and I both had the same idea: get into the factory while the grunt was distracted. After all, something must be going on in there.

Ash offered to take care of the grunt at the entrance while I ran inside, trying to figure out what Team Flare had planned. there were grunts and blocked paths everywhere, forcing me to use the Poké Ball conveyor belt system to get around. In truth, I felt like some kind of secret agent riding around like that, and I beat the various grunts with ease, making my way up to the top level where I learned the sorry truth, that Team Flare was stealing mass quantities of Poké Balls. I managed to find and beat one of the admins before Ash run in, having finally taken care of one grunt I left him with back in the beginning. He insisted on teaming up with me for a double battle against the two female scientists, and I agree, mostly just to shut him up, though his Pokémon didn't do much good and I carried the battle, forcing the Team Flare members to leave in disgrace, though they'd always stolen so many Poké Balls that it felt like I'd really accomplished very little. The president of the factory, however, was very grateful and gave me both a Master Ball and a big nugget. I thanked him and headed out of the factory, eager to get back on the road to the next town and the next gym badge.

The route east from Laverre was a pleasant path filled with trees, leaves, and lots of trainers to battle. My team and I plowed through the trainers with ease, passing through the path and eventually coming to a set of rocky ruins. The gate to the next town was right nearby, but I couldn't help being drawn to the ruins with a desire to explore. There was a crumbling staircase leading up to a mostly-destroyed second floor above, and another dark stairway leading below. A Hex Maniac outside warned me that there were a bunch of strong punks down there, but I ignored her warnings with a shrug and moved on. My confidence would be my undoing.

It wasn't too long into the underground passage before I ran into the first of the punks, an ugly kid named Sid with a shock of teal hair and a sour expression on his face. What I hadn't expected was the strength of his Pokémon, particularly the Scrafty. In three quick blows, he killed my Lapras, Skarmory and Gabite, leaving me stunned and in tears before I could hardly think. I sent out Lucario and Mega Evolved her to take out Scrafty and the rest of the punk's team, but I was working on autopilot, hardly thinking from numbness and just wanting to get out of this stupid place. When the battle was concluded, I headed back towards the entrance as quickly as possible, only to be confronted by an Electrode that self-destructed, taking out Lucario in the process.

I must have blacked out or something after that, because I don't recall what happened next. I awoke in a field of tall grass with an Eevee licking my hand. I was outside, presumably somewhere near the ruins, though I could also see the tall buildings of Lumiose City nearby. My friends... I must have left them down in the darkness of the ruins, but they weren't really my friends anymore, just corpses. I didn't want to move. I didn't want to think, or feel. I closed my eyes and let the sound of the wind in the grass lull me back to sleep.

I woke again to see the Eevee digging around in my purse. I blinked sleepily as it nosed around among my belongings, eventually grabbing onto a blue stone. I had to shield my eyes from the flash it evolved into a Vaporeon in front of my eyes, then stood there, wagging its mermaid-like tail and looking on at me expectantly. Did it want me to move on? I supposed I had to. I stretched and stood up, looking around. In addition to my bag, the transporter had fallen out of my pocket and was lying next to my side, along with a Poké Ball. The Eevee must have been a gift from Headquarters that had been sent while I was dozing in the grass. And it didn't get sent to the PC because four of my friends were dead.

The Vaporeon looked at me cutely with a small smile and I couldn't help but smile back. "Well, let's head over to Lumiose, shall we?" I recalled Vaporeon into his Poké Ball and headed off towards the city, to rebuild my team and my life. It was easy enough to fill my belt with Poké Balls; Vaporeon could take the place of the poor, departed Lapras and Tyrunt and Raichu were welcome back as well. For my sixth spot I picked someone new, the sword-like Honedge that I'd gotten before.

With a team change, I felt like I needed a change myself. I ran off to the hair-dresser to have my hair slashed off into a stylish bob, then managed to finally talk myself into the Lumiose boutique. The prices were outrageous, but I'd saved a fair amount of coin from all the trainers I beat, so I splurged and got myself a gorgeous top with matching socks, shoes, and a new hat with a cute ribbon. It cost me the vast majority of the money I'd saved, but I needed to change out of the stench of failure that had rotted its way into my old clothes. With the new style and hair, I felt like a completely different person. I knew I'd have to train up my new Pokémon... but how?

Then inspiration struck: the Battle Chateau, of course! There were loads of trainers there, with new ones showing up each day, and I'd already gained a rank. It would be a great place to stay for a bit. It was a bit of a hike to get there, but I hopped on my bike and I made good time, through some smaller roads and off to the Chateau where I lost myself for some time.

Oh, Battle Chateau, I'd forgotten how beautiful you were, with your luxurious halls, your rich trainers, and your lofty nobility system. I abandoned my trainer persona and became Countess Jessie, a traveling lady from Kanto looking to make a name for herself among the Kalos elite. My team was training and getting stronger and learning to work together all while I schmoozed and hobnobbed with the other rich trainers, beating them and taking their money to help fund the lavish lifestyle that I'd fostered for myself. Sometimes even old Gym Leaders came back, and I had fun beating them again, along with the beautifully dressed hostesses of the Fairy Gym in Laverre.

I don't know how long I stayed there, sleeping until late in the morning, battling throughout the afternoon, then attending balls and parties until after midnight. I continued to raise in the ranking system until I became a Duchess. It was a fun and glamourous lifestyle, one very fitting to a woman of my type. Eventually I began to think that... maybe I should stay here, maybe this was where I belonged. I'd never really fit into Team Rocket. Although I would always love James and Meowth, I was simply not cut out to be a criminal, as my past with Team Rocket should prove. In Kalos, I thought that I might make it as a Pokémon Trainer, but even that dream seemed to have felt flat. But here, I was always laughing and smiling, training with the other heiresses and lords, partying into the evening. People enjoyed my company and were glad when I entered a room. I was loved.

One afternoon, I was just about to turn in for the day when I'd been told that I had a challenger. I turned around and found myself staring into the familiar eyes of Grant. I blushed as I accepted the challenge and soon found myself battling against the man who'd once saved me from my grief. Of all the Gym Leaders that I'd fought, many of them multiple times, he had never showed, until now.'He used two Pokémon, a Tyrantrum and an Aurorous and both were powerful, though I took them down like all of the others. My face was flushed and sweaty by the time the battle concluded, a most un-womanly state to find myself in, but Grant ignored it and offered me his hand for a walk through the gardens.

"I was wondering what happened to you. You seemingly fell of the face of the earth," he said with a smile as we took a seat on a bench amongst the hedges. "I heard of your success at the Laverre Gym, but then you just... disappeared."

I quirked an eyebrow. "You were following me?"

"Not literally." Grant chuckled. "But the Pokémon League does keep track of the trainers that challenge gyms and some of their progress, like PC stays and the like. Which is why I got so worried when you stoped showing up. I thought something might have happened to you."

"Something did." Tears started welling up in my eyes so I dabbed at them lightly with a handkerchief to save my mascara. "I've had to build up a new team again, and..."

"And you decided to start a new life for yourself here?" Grant finished. "Not a bad place to run off to, I suppose. The food is excellent and the staff top notch, if you can afford it all."

"Most of these rich guys can tell the cost of your shoes from the other side of a room but they wouldn't know Pokémon strategy if a Chansey walked up and Double Slapped them in the face. I beat them and I take the prize winnings and it sustains my lifestyle."

"Is this really what you want to do?"

"Eh?" I looked over at him, dumbfounded, to see him staring very intently into my face.

"You're a very good trainer, Jessie. Better than the Gym Leaders I know. I think you could take on the Elite Four, win the whole thing."

"Really? You think I'm that good?"

"Yes. But you won't stay that way long if you stay here. You'll grow soft, challenging these rich heiresses and their purchased Pokémon, and your Pokémon won't grow. You're wasting too much potential here. But if you're happy..." He smiled, crinkling the corners of his eyes. "I guess it's not my place to tell you what you do, but only if you're really happy here."

I looked into his eyes and I sighed, thinking of James and Meowth and all the other times I'd thought of them over the past few weeks. Living here was nice, and at one point, it really might have been everything that I'd hoped to find in life, but Grants words were also hitting home with me. I could already feel my battle edge starting to dull with each additional battle I fought against some rich lord and he's puffed up, dressed up Pokémon. Even getting a nice, fat pile of winnings never quite compared to the feeling of accomplishment I experience whenever I beat a tough Gym Leader or make it to a new town.

I stood up and grabbed Grant's hand. "Come on, help me change into one of my fancy ballgowns and prepare to gorge on some delicious snacks. This is the last night I'll be spending in the Battle Chateau and I want to go out in style, decked out in jewels, drunk, and full of delicious foods and good company."

Highlights/Notes/Thoughts:

Alright, so here's more or less how things REALLY went down:

I did lose Lapras and Skarmory to that jerk in the Lost Hotel. Skarmory was first; he got hit my a critical Hi Jump Kick. I don't know why I brought out Lapras after that, a very poor move on my part, but it just took a single non-critical HJK to take him out. I brought out Mega Lucario to take him down and then lost Lucario to a self-destrucing wild Electrode.

Eevee was my Route 15 WT (level 39), really a god send otherwise I'd have no one that could Surf, and I did have a water stone. I got a Mienfoo from the Lost Hotel and also popped onto Route 16 and WTed for a Noctowl named Bedding (is this some joke I'm missing?). I was really hoping that I could get something good, or at least interesting, so I went ahead to Dendemill up to the Frost Cavern, where I stupidly kept Gabite in my front party slot. >_< That's how Gabite was really lost, to a OHKO from a wild Piloswine that I then captured and WTed for a.... Ledyba. ._.;

I will fully admit that some of these actions are just the result of poor choices, mostly Lapras and Gabite. By the time the Gabite thing came up, I was tired and mostly running on fury. I don't even remember why Lapras happened, though it wouldn't have been an issue in the first place if it weren't for the stupid critical.

With all of this happening, my husband legitimately wanted me to stop playing because it was upset me too much. I was crying, pretty harshly. Maybe more like sobbing. He doesn't think I should finish the run (in his POV, Nuzlockes aren't good for me in general because the point of a Nuzlocke is to make you feel closer to your Pokémon, but I already feel pretty close to them. Hell, I feel sorry for inanimate objects all the time, like things put back in the wrong place at the grocery store), and for a while I was debating if I wanted to stop, too. I did end up putting the team together and training in Battle Chateau, just like I described, figuring that maybe if I just leveled for a bit I'd have less to worry about and things wouldn't be so bad. I guess we'll see. But for now, I plan on continuing. Though I do think that when I make it on to Platinum, I'll do a CMT or something instead of a Nuzlocke. It's just very difficult.

Anyway, sorry for the lack of detail in this chapter. I really hardly remembered anything about what happened in the Poké Ball Factory and Route 16 by the time I decided to write this up today; I had to look at a Walkthrough to actually remind myself of the details (like doing a double battle with your rival against the scientist chicks).

I'll probably still work in the Chateau for a couple days and level up, but after that I'll get back to the swing of things.

And, yes, Jessie really did blow almost her entire wad on Lumiose clothes. The first outfit I put together was actually too expensive for the money that I had on hand at the time, so I had to go back and put something together (I think I reused a different purse instead of buying the one there, since that was like 200k in and of itself). She's looking cute, though! I want to unlock the pigtails...

I was so tempted to put "Jessie + Grant OTP <3 <3 <3" in my notes section but then I checked myself.

A Wonderlocke is like a Nuzlocke* except that, each route that I catch my 1 Pokémon, instead of keeping that Pokémon on my team, I use the Wonder Trade feature of X to trade my Pokémon in for a new, mystery Pokémon.

* - If you don't know what a Nuzlocke is, it's a specific type of Pokémon challenge run. In short, playing a Nuzlocke means that you can only capture and use the first wild Pokémon you find in each Route you visit, and if any of your Pokémon "faints" in battle, it is treated as dead and you are not allowed to use that Pokémon again for the rest of the game. The idea is to not only make Pokémon more difficult, but also to build more meaningful relationships with your Pokémon, especially considering that they are often Pokémon you might not typically use.

Oh, I couldn't stop laughing with Lucario's death. Those kamikaze Electrode are still being used by GF!

One thing I'm wondering...in your nuzlocke, after dying are Pokémon still capable of returning to their Pkballs or they just lay on the floor and the one that comes next will battle while standing on their dead bodies!? I think Lucario might have felt some hapiness in dying after sensing its comrades deaths.

You've traded that murderer Piloswine!? Like I've said before, I would capture it and then let it faint and die on purpose! U_U Also, if going by Gen. I, Piloswine would make a great meal that would last for a couple of weeks since its half Ice! Oh I can already imagine the feast!

Now, for serious, if this nuzlocke causes you that sadness then I think you should stop too! It's just a game so if it ends up making you feel like that, what's the point!?

some day I will update my nuzlocke, some day when my internet stops sucking

There's precedent for bodies hanging around after death (see: the Ivysaur death scene back in an early chapter) and I even reference Jessie regretting not grabbing the corpses from the Lost Hotel. Fighting around the dead bodies of your comrades must be pretty awful.

And, yeah, I had to WT the Piloswine, just like I did the Dragon Rage Axew back early on. After all, I couldn't let Gabite's death be in vein... though I did only end up getting a Ledyba for it which was pretty lame.

I'll probably do the CMT of Platinum once I'm done with this. It's been a while since I've played through Gen 4 anyway. :D I'll post it up here when the time comes.

As much as the sadness makes me want to quit sometimes... I just can't leave the story half finished either, especially if I want Jessie to move onto Sinnoh. As such, I do plan to keep going on, though that's also why I'm leveling like nobody's business. I want to get to L50 before I move on from the Chateau.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 18

Time for Jessie to get back in the figurative saddle!

Chapter 19: Back on the Road to Anistar Gym

The next morning I awoke refresh and ready, my mind made up. It was time to move. I brushed my hair and got dressed long before the other nobility were awake to slip out the door without having any awkward goodbyes. It was easier this way. Duchess Jessie would be there if I needed her, but for now, I was back to Trainer Jessie, and I had a Gym to get to.

I stopped at the Lumiose Boutique one last time on my way, spending the rest of my Chateau money on a cute new shirt, ribbon, and purse, then left to the east via Route 16. I battled my way through the tall grass and trainers until I found myself back at the Lost Hotel. Clenching my fist, I climbed back down the stairs, battling my way through the trainers to the Boss at the end. I was expecting a Pokémon battle, but instead he... complemented me on my style and taught me a skating trick? It felt like something of a disappointment, but regardless, it was time to move on to Dendemille.

And it looked like Dendemille I would stay, at least for some time. the road to Anistar and the next Gym was covered by a thick layer of snow, and the Mamoswine that usually transported trainers to and from the gatehouse was distracted by troubles up north at the Frost Cavern, which sounded like a dreadful place to visit. I'd already spent most of the day traveling, so I decided to take a break, exploring the sites of Dendemille and taking an early bed.

I awoke the next morning to the sound of my transmitter beeping. I caught a glimpse of a cute red bird before it flitted off to my PC. Something to keep in mind in case I lose some more party members, I guess. I dressed warmly and had a large breakfast before making my way north to the cavern to see if I could figure out the problem. The Mamoswine and its handler were waiting outside the cave, and the Pokémon was clearly agitated, but I simply continued on into the cavern, prepared to figure out the problem as quickly as possible so I could make a move on with my journey.

The cavern was full of trainers and covered in a thick layer of ice which made traveling difficult, but I quickly learned how to properly slide across the ice to minimize risks. It was actually somewhat fun! Sliding around and battling trainers, I had almost forgotten my purpose... until I saw the familiar red suits of Team Flare, and the poor Trevor twerp huddling against the wall and likely wetting himself at the thought of confronting them. I decided to confront them on my own, which gave him enough courage to take down one of the grunts, while I handled the other, and also another one of the scientists, this one with blue hair and some kind of wacky 3D goggles on her head. The trio had been tormenting an Abomasnow to create bad weather conditions, but after we finished beating them, they fled and Traver and I managed to calm the Abomasnow down. It thanked me by giving me a small stone, an Abomanite! I quickly secured it carefully in my purse to send to the boss later and made my way back out to Dendemille.

The weather was clearer and the Mamoswine was back in action, so I was able to ride one through the snowy pass to Anistar. It was a smelly beast, but fast, and we made the trip in a very short amount of time. I was weary by the time I reached Anistar, but as soon as I touched down on the ground, I got a call from the main twerp challenging me to another battle in front of the Gym, and I couldn't pass that up. I beat him easily, as usual, but he didn't seem quite as dejected as normal for once, wishing me well as he strolled off.

I thought about challenging the Gym right away, but I knew I was too tired to do well, so I decided to spend the evening relaxing and seeing the sites. Anistar was a tourist location famous for its Sundial, a large crystal made in ancient days that could be used to tell the time. It was a pretty thing, but ultimately not very interesting to stare at for long, so I spent most of my time wandering around to the various cafés and turning in early again.

The next morning, I was awake bright and early to challenge the gym first thing. The Anistar City Gym was Psychic-themed and featured bizarre, curved pathways and teleporters. There was only a single path to follow so it was hard to get lost, but the curves and the starry sky background served to distract me. I have no idea how long it took, but I eventually made my way through, beating the trainers to reach the Gym Leader, a lady named Olympia with impressive hair and a beautifully starry cloak. I opened up the battle with Doublade, who was strong against the powerful Psychic type attacks, and he managed to weather through 2 out of 3 battles before I switched out to Tyrantrum to Crunch her final Slowking into submission.

The battle was exhilarating, a sensation I'd missed while fighting the richies of the Battle Chateau. My Pokémon and I had grown strong together and we welcomed the challenge, and also the badge at the end. Olympia wished us well, and I was smiling wide as I took the teleporter back to the entrance.

I was heading down the street towards the Pokémon Center when I saw the Ash twerp approaching me again. I stifled a groan, but before we had a chance to talk, we both received a holo clip call at the same time. It was Chaos Jackal.

"Pokémon Trainers. I come to you by the Holo Caster to make an important announcement. Listen well. Team Flare will revive the ultimate weapon, eliminate everyone who isn't in our group, and return the world to a beautiful, natural state. Unproductive fools are consuming our future... If nothing changes, the world will become ugly and conflicts will raze the land from end to end. I repeat. We will use the ultimate weapon and wipe the slate clean. I'm sorry, those of you who are not members of Team Flare, but this is adieu to you all."

I was stunned. I had thought there was something weird and shady about Chaos Jackal, that name if nothing else, but I'd never imagined he was the leader of that weird Team Flare group. And even though he seemed so fond of me, he never even offered to let me join before deciding to destroy the world! I stormed off in a huff, leaving Ash behind, uncertain of what to do. This was big. Really big. I would have to break silence.

I took a private room at the one of the hotels in town, securing all entrances and sweeping the room for bugs before I dared make a connection to HQ, The boss had said that I should only call in case of emergency but, well, this was definitely an emergency.

Giovanni's initial anger at my breech of cover soon turned to shock and dismay as I told him what I'd learned and what was going on. When I asked for advice...

"What do you think you should do?" Giovanni asked me scathingly. "Go after him, you fool! Find James if you can, but you've been succeeding in this mission so far a lot more than he has, so if you have to leave him behind, fine. In the name of Team Rocket, these fools MUST be stopped. I'll send you some back up of my own, but I fear we'll be starting in too late, so it'll have to be up to you. Good luck, you'll need it."

He turned off the transmission before I could get in another word, but that was alright, my mission was clear. I would have loved to spend another night to rest in the hotel, but time was of the essence. I grabbed my little red bird and flew to Lumiose City as fast as his wings could carry us. I didn't know where to find Chaos Jackal for sure, but I figured his beloved café would be a good place to start....

Highlights/Notes/Thoughts:

A pretty straightforward chapter all said and done. I stayed at the Battle Chateau until everyone was Lv. 50 and then moved back on. I couldn't actually travel backwards through Route 16 like I described because I hadn't been through it before and never pushed the Strength block, but it seemed to make more sense to write it that way. I'd actually done all of the Lost Hotel and Dedemille Town stuff back before the last time I was here, with the exception of the Lost Hotel Boss because I'd missed getting one of the skating tricks in Lumiose. I did manage to get the final one before I came back and made my way to the Boss... and I really did forget that he just gave you a move; I really did think it was another Pokémon battle. >_<

Frost Cavern was pretty straightforward; I usually enjoy the Ice caves of Pokémon since I love the sliding puzzles. >_> And I mostly solo'ed Anistar Gym with Doublade with the except of Tyrantrum on the last Pokémon.

Otherwise, nothing much to write home about. Fletchling was my WT for Route 18 (and, funnly enough, the OT is James! :p). I don't really feel like making a space for him now, but as a Fire- and Flying-type, it could be very useful.

Also, I'd totally forgotten that I already had Fly, so until today, I'd been traveling everywhere by bike. >_< When I got Fletchling I was like "oh, okay, cool, when I get Fly he can be my flyer!" And then when I didn't get Fly from Anistar I looked in my bag and, derp, there it was. So I was able to swap out to fly back to Lumiose at least...

7 badges down... I should hopefully be able to finish up with the WonderLocke at this rate. :D

There's precedent for bodies hanging around after death (see: the Ivysaur death scene back in an early chapter) and I even reference Jessie regretting not grabbing the corpses from the Lost Hotel. Fighting around the dead bodies of your comrades must be pretty awful.

And, yeah, I had to WT the Piloswine, just like I did the Dragon Rage Axew back early on. After all, I couldn't let Gabite's death be in vein... though I did only end up getting a Ledyba for it which was pretty lame.

You should do a CMT of Platnum! I'd suggest you use Gastrodon or Rotom! And you should stop if this causes you sadness :p

some day I will update my nuzlocke, some day when my internet stops sucking

I'll probably do the CMT of Platinum once I'm done with this. It's been a while since I've played through Gen 4 anyway. :D I'll post it up here when the time comes.

As much as the sadness makes me want to quit sometimes... I just can't leave the story half finished either, especially if I want Jessie to move onto Sinnoh. As such, I do plan to keep going on, though that's also why I'm leveling like nobody's business. I want to get to L50 before I move on from the Chateau.

My bad. How could I forgot Ivysaur!?...
While battling and standing on dead comrades can be heartbroken, it can still be useful for cover...imagine ripping off Lapras' shell and using it as a shield! (Ok, I'm already imagining a more item creation and pratical Pokémon game :shy: )
One thing is Jessie and the other thing and more important is you! Giovanni can send another agent, namely one that does mimicking like that guy from Team Magma in the anime!!

About the new chapter...yeah, Jessie should had definitely flirt with Flare's boss, after all two persons with akward hair can only be a good match right!?

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 19

gawd Thena you're beating me again e.e
screw not being able to WT I'll hijack my sis' 3DS if I need to! *furiously starts grinding*

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 19

How did I only find this today? I read through all of the chapters so far, and it's great! All those poor lost Pokemon though... ;-;

Nuzlockes are so brutal, but can be so rewarding once you finally beat the game.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 20

And I just keep plugging along; I guess it helps that we're getting into the exciting parts of the game! This is a longer chapter guys, just a head's up.

Speaking of which...

@Leaf_Ranger: That's actually a cute idea, trading my Pokémon at the end as giveaways. :) I'm not sure if I quite want to (I'm very attached to them!) but it would be a fitting end. I'll have to think about it.

@Luke: Come on, you're slow! :p

@TT: Glad you're enjoying it! :D I'm happy there are people out there willing to read through the walls of text. :p

Chapter 20: Team Rocket vs. Team Flare
I landed near a Pokémon Center in Lumiose and stopped in to heal my Pokémon before making my way to Chaos Jackal's café. Not a Team Flare member was in sight, but the staff at the café were giving me dirty looks. When I asked about Chaos Jackal, I was challenged to a battle; the wait staff was Team Flare members in disguise! I quickly beat them both and learned the secret of the hidden entrance, making my way to the Team Flare Headquarters beneath the café.

Waiting for me at the bottom of the stairs was Chaos Jackal himself, dressed in all of his orange glory. "Welcome!" he greeted me, flashing me a charming smile. Oddly, he seemed less creepy now that his secret was out of the bag. I guess his face just fits for a world destroying sort of guy.

"What a surprise meeting you here." I rolled my eyes.

"You must understand, Jessie. This world will eventually reach the point of no return... Saving the lives of all is impossible. Only the chosen ones will obtain a ticket to tomorrow. Do you want to have a ticket? Or, do you want to stop me?"

"Look," I said, exasperated, "if you're going to give me some long speech about your plans, you can forget it. I don't care. I'm just here to stop you."

He grinned widely and held up a Poké Ball. "Show me."

I was honestly expecting Chaos Jackal to have a more impressive team than he did. I beat down his unevolved Mienfoo with a few crunches, Surfed my way past Pyroar, and took down both Gyarados and Murkrow with a pair of Thunderbolts. I didn't even break a sweat.

""Wah ha ha! Your convictions, and those of your Pokémon, please me!" Chaos jackal chuckled as he recalled his Murkrow. "You are here to stop me. But I ask you to wait. I tried to save people--"

"Can it." I held up a hand to cut him off mid-speech. "I already told you I'm not interested. The world's a piece of shit, I know. Trust me, I probably understand that better than most people. You don't need to justify yourself to me. The only part of your little plan that I have a problem with your plan is that it's Team Flare doing it. As far as I've been able to tell, you all are nothing but a bunch of rich losers with bad fashion sense. If there's going to be anyone taking over this stinking world and making something better out of it, it's going to be Team Rocket."

"Oho!" Chaos Jackal stood straighter, intrigued by my outburst. "Don't tell me, you were sent here all the way from Kanto by Giovanni? Most interesting."

I smirked. "Of course. Not only that, but I've made mincemeat out of every single Team Flare member that I've come across, you included. Your pitiful Team Flare can't hold a candle to the greatness that is Team Rocket." I probably shouldn't have broken cover, but I felt a weight lift from my chest regardless proclaiming my true intentions. I squashed an irrational desire to go into the motto; after all, it wouldn't be quite the same just by myself, anyway.

Chaos Jackal shrugged. "Try to stop the ultimate weapon if you must, but to do so, you will have to explore our lab and have Pokémon battles with all you meet. If we're all so easy to beat compared to the wonders of Team Rocket, that should be a piece of cake for you, I'm sure. Oh, and as for the Elevator Key, one of the Team Flare Scientists you've met on your journey has it." He lifted a hand in farewell and exited onto the elevator, leaving me standing there on the first basement floor.

A floor filled with spinner tiles. I groaned. At least I'd gotten plenty of practice using them back in the old Team Rocket headquarters. I hoped I wouldn't puke.

As Chaos Jackal promised, there were plenty of Team Flare grunts to block my path, and a few scientists too, but I bullied my way through all of them, following the path and trying to figure one which one of these bright-haired weirdos had the key so I could move on in this stupid place. They liked to talk, though, and I learned a bit more about their plans and the weapon they hoped to use. I finally managed to grab the key from the blue-haired one, the same scientist I'd just fought in the Frost Caverns. She smiled as she handed me the key and waved goodbye. I couldn't help but feel that they were just trying to steal my time.

I made my way back to the entrance and down a floor to the next part of the basement where I found Chaos Jackal standing next to a cell block holding an incredibly tall man who seemed vaguely familiar looking. Chaos Jackal introduced the man as AZ and then left, telling me to meet him in his office. I went to turn and follow him, but AZ called me back for a moment. I didn't think Chaos Jackal would do anything without me there to watch him and hear him tell about how glorious his plans were, so I hung back to listen to AZ for a bit.

"Listen, one who will face Lysandre…" he began. "A terribly long time ago, there was a man and a Pokémon. He loved that Pokémon very much. A war began. The man's beloved Pokémon took part in the war. Several years passed. He was given a tiny box. The man wanted to bring the Pokémon back, no matter what it took. The man built a machine to give it life. He brought his beloved Pokémon back. The man had suffered too much. His rage had not subsided. He could not forgive the world that had hurt the Pokémon he loved. He turned the machine into the ultimate weapon. The man became a bringer of destruction that ended the war. The Pokémon that was given life must have known that the lives of many Pokémon were taken to restore its life. The resurrected Pokémon left the man. Get the key back. It should not be used. Everything will vanish again. Do you want to know unending pain…like I have?"

I stared at him blankly. "You killed thousands of people and Pokémon just because you were pissed off that a Pokémon you loved, who had chosen of its own volition to fight knowing the consequences, was killed in a battle? You're a terrible selfish asshole. I can see why your Pokémon left you."

Without waiting for a response, I turned around and went back towards the elevator to get to Chaos Jackal's office. All of these people were crazy.

I found Chaos Jackal standing next to a bald, fat man in a scientist's jacket in a room filled with complicated machinery and a humongous monitor screen. When he heard me enter, he turned to face me and smiled. "Jessie, you're just in time! The only thing left to do is put the plan in motion. I'm counting on you. One push of a button, and we can activate the ultimate weapon from this room."

"I already told you, Team Flare doesn't deserve to have anything better than a kick in the pants."

"But, Jessie, didn't you hear me? I said we. Surely you must realize that I could not neglect a woman as talented as yourself. While you were battling my scientists, I did some digging around and managed to pull up your dossier. Such a boring life, really, living as a grunt in Team Rocket for all these years, when you have so much talent and potential! Surely, that talent would be much better off put to use in an organization that would treasure and support you.

I believe being a chosen one such as yourself means you have the potential to change the future! As such, I would like to formally invite you to join Team Flare, entrance fees waived, of course. You can choose to join and we'll proceed as planned, or... if you'd rather continue this folly of yours and go back to living as a grunt in Team Rocket, that of course is your choice, too. Whether we activate the ultimate weapon or leave it safely underground will rest on you."

With a wave of his hand, Chaos jackal left, leaving me to battle the fat scientist, a pushover. He giggled as he withdrew his last Pokémon, blathering about the power of the ultimate weapon and finally inviting me to make my choice. "Choose the red button to join Team Flare and help us achieve our ultimate victory... or you can pick blue. Push one now! Come on! Push one!"

I walked up to the machine, hesitant. Part of me really did agree with Chaos Jackal said, not about how Team Flare deserves to destroy the world, but about how Team Rocket didn't really seem to appreciate the work I've done. Sure, I never managed to capture the twerp's Pikachu, but my success in Kalos proved that I really could be competent with Pokemon under the right circumstances.

I ground my teeth and pressed the blue button. Team Rocket might not appreciate all my skills, but they gave me my friends and a place where I belonged. They gave me a home. They deserved my trust.

"You pressed it! Oh ho ho! You pressed the blue switch! Winner, winner! Congratulations!" The fat scientists danced around the room, acting for a moment like the fat twerp, then turned and looked at me with a smug look on his face. "But I'm still going to activate the ultimate weapon! I know the boss promised that we wouldn't if you pushed the correct button, but I refuse to let the potential go to waste! I'll just use my remote, here! Click-click! And the power is ON! Come on! Look! Look at the monitor!"

"You asshole!" I raised my sleeve and prepared to punch him, but before I could, my attention was captured by the site on the screen, a large crystal device rising out of the center of the stone ruins of Geosenge. The ultimate weapon, brought to life at last.

"Did you see? The ultimate weapon is reborn! The poisonous flower has bloomed! All shall perish! Except for Team Flare! Look at Geosenge! It has bloomed in Geosenge Town! The boss's dream of creating a beautiful world will come true! Add it all up, and it equals... a victory for our SCIENCE!"

"I don't have time for your shit," I growled, rushing out of the room and back up the elevator and out to the café and Lumiose. I quickly flew out to Geosenge, right in the middle of the disaster zone. I spied a Team Flare grunt off to the northwest and headed over, only to be joined by Ash. Of course, there's no way I'd be able to do anything of importance without him tagging along. I sighed and joined along with him as we went through the elevator into Team Flare's secret headquarters.

Chaos Jackal was there waiting for us, of course, laughing. Ash hadn't gotten a chance to hear his spiel earlier, so I sat back and tapped my foot waiting as both of them debating back and forth. Talk about boring. I guess Ash was able to out talk him because finally Chaos Jackal put his foot down. "Enough of this. You want to stop the ultimate weapon, and I refuse to do so. So, I will keep you busy for just a moment..."

"I got this, no worries." I stepped up, confident, and prepared to battle Chaos Jackal all over again. It wasn't really much different from our other battle, though he had somehow managed to find time to evolve 2 of his Pokémon since our last battle only a few hours ago.

Chaos Jackal grimaced as I pounded him a second time. "You're as strong as ever. But... It's too late! There's no hope for you now! Go down to the lowest floor, and see for yourself!" With another round of maniacal laughter, he strolled off, leaving Ash and I to make our way down to the basement.

Ash and I ran into quite a few Team Flare members on our way down, but he stepped up to help me fight and the battles were a breeze, taking up time more than anything else. Ash blabbed on while we walked, but I tuned him out, lost in thought. Perhaps killing time really was all Chaos Jackal was trying to do...

Floor after floor, stairway after stairway, we continued on, eventually joined by... James? "I'm sorry… I know… I'm just going to slow you down," he explained slowly while catching his breath. "But… But friends should stick together!" Ash welcomed him and then we went down the three of us.

I soon welcomed James' addition to our party, however, when we finally reached the bottom of the series of stairs and were confronted with a large door with a keypad lock. James whipped out a device given to him by Gym Leader Clemont and picked the lock for us! I thanked him with a kiss on the cheek and strolled into the room, both boys following along behind me.

In the center of the large room was... a tree, dead by the looks of it, with all sorts of wires and tubes hooked up into it. Surrounding the tree were about a dozen Team Flare admins, every one of them ready to slow us down. James, Ash, and I split up, though that still meant I had 4 admins to take down, and as quickly as possible. I beat them in good order while Ash and James were still working on there, then I walked up to the giant tree to see what the fuss was all about.

There was a button on the pedestal the tree was sitting on, so I pressed it, and was immediately blinded by a flash of light. When I could finally open my eyes again, the tree was gone, transformed into a Pokémon: the Legendary Pokémon Xerneas! This was my chance! Finally, I would be able to capture a Legendary Pokémon for the boss!

I stepped up to confront it, palms sweaty, knees shaking. I'd never caught a Pokémon of my own before... but it couldn't be that hard, could it? I had a good selection of Poké Balls in my bag, and it seemed to be waiting for me to make the first move. I reached into my bag, pulled out a blue and yellow Poké Ball, and tossed it, fingers crossed. The Poké Ball shook 3 times and then stood still. Xerneas was caught! I walked up to grab the Poké Ball, still shaking, but this time with excitement. Finally, I'd done something the boss could be proud of.

"What a startling development! I never would've thought you were really a chosen one!"

I quickly turned around, looking into the face of Chaos Jackal.. at least I thought it was him. He was decked out even more flamboyantly than usual, with some large orange shades and these weird... robot arm things coming around his shoulders. "So THIS is the mighty Xerneas?!" He laughed. "I expected more from a Pokémon called a legend! You desire help from people? YOU need help from a human? For me, victory is using the ultimate weapon. In order to do that, I need to reclaim the Legendary Pokémon's power and send it to that weapon once again. I'll be taking the Legendary Pokémon back now! This time, I won't lose. I, too, shall use the Mega Ring and Mega Stone that you researched during your travels."

Another battle with Chaos Jackal, but this time was the toughest yet, especially his Mega Gyarados which was more resistant to my Thunderbolts than before. Still, I managed to take him down without any losses of my own, but I was sweating by the end of it.

"It's over..." Chaos Jackal sighed, slumping. "Fools with no vision will continue to befoul this beautiful world. They will go on until the only thing left to do is squabble over the remaining scraps of hope..." He cursed. "I can only see one future! One where selfish, foolish humans like Team Rocket think about nothing other than themselves and steal more and more from one another... It's a tragic future!"

Suddenly he stood tall, raging. "The original purpose of this device was to bring a Pokémon back to life. But the ancient king transformed it into this ultimate weapon... Hmm. When the Legendary Pokémon awakened, it took back much of its energy--its power--that had been sent to the ultimate weapon. There's not much power left... But there IS enough to use it once..." He looked at my slyly. "Jessie... Let us live forever... That's right! I shall grant you eternal life! I'll give you the pain of endlessly waiting for a beautiful world to finally be built!"

The building started to shake, even though we were deep underground. That was definitely not good. "Quick, let's get out of here!" I called to Ash and James, racing them out the door and up the stairs while the building trembled violently. It felt like an earthquake! Finally we reached the top floor and took the elevator to the surface. We exited out into Geosenge just in time to see the ultimate weapon fire up into the sky, then collapse onto itself in a huge sinkhole of rock and ruin, destroying the headquarters and everything, and everyone, inside."

James snorted. "Good riddance. Now let's go back to our journey!"

I walked along behind the others as they moved away from the wreckage, but I couldn't help glancing back occasionally. It may be nothing now, but that rubble was the site of where I captured my first Pokémon, and where I really made my first big steps towards pleasing the Boss. He may have been a psychotic rich guy with bad fashion sense, but Chaos Jackal had made that happen. I waved goodbye to the wreckage one last time, then prepared to fly back to Anistar City for some well deserved rest before moving on to the next gym.

Highlights/Notes/Thoughts:

I guess I really could have split this up into two chapters, but I played it all at once and it went by so fast that I thought I could just fit it into one chapter, and I did... just a really long chapter.

Nothing really much interesting to say, honestly; it was a pretty straightforward chapter, especially since most of what happened was in-game plot. No new WTs, nothing overly difficult. I really do think AZ is kind of jerk, so part of Jessie's reaction to him was self-projection. I really did capture Xerneas in a single Quick Ball which was kind of lulzy, and also fitting for Jessie given her other lackadaisical Kalos captures (*cough*pumpkaboo*cough*).

Otherwise, hope you guys enjoy! For now, I'm off to play some more. :D

Yes, I did. :p

And I'm just about to get my Dusk Stone, too, since I'm in Terminus Cave. :D I had my first experience of having a hard time finding someone to WT with.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 20

When I spoke about ending your nuzlocke was if you decide to do that because of the sobbing that you were last time and if that happens again, because then it would be a shame to just delete the save file and all those creatures. If you finish your nuzlocke like you've intended too and have no plans to start a new and regular walkthrought, then keep them!

As for the chapter, good thinking about the spinning tiles!
So...is Chaos Jackal/Lysandre dead!? O_O

Dead people buried or perhaps now nothing more than dust? Meh, I've yet to win my last badge, let's move on! U_U
Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool! Just like Ash!

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 20

It's not like Jessie had any particular fondness for Team Flare or anything. :p I do find that scene in game kind of ridiculous, though.
