RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 5

HALP HALP HALP :(

Now that I'm getting to the point where I can own more Pokémon than I can use, I am beginning to realize how wholly unsuited to the task of choosing Pokémon I am. Simply put, I feel sorry for digital creatures and would feel bad boxing any of them. Boxing Onix in Chapter 4 was painful, and now I'm going to be going through this in every route where I get anything that I think could be a legitimate member of Jessie's party.

So, simply put, I would like to start putting party decisions at least partly to a vote, to see if people think I should keep and use my newest acquisition from a route, or if I should keep my old party. In future updates, I'm going to try and end a chapter with a new WT to make it flow a bit better, and also so there's no issue of ZOMG SPOILERS, but for now...

Sneak Peak of the next chapter!

Jessie goes to Route 5 and manages to WT for a Furfrou. So, keep or box? And if you vote "keep", who should I remove from my party? Current team is: Fennekin, Riolu, Ralts, Staravia, Keromatsu, Bulbasaur.

Please let me know what you think! Next chapter might come over the weekend but is more likely to land on Monday.

FUNFACT: On Route 5 I actually did catch a Furfrou and managed to WT it for another Furfrou. I FOUND THIS HILARIOUS. Also, the Furfrou has Pokérus, if that would affect your decision at all.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 5 (Help Needed!)

If it has PokeRus, I would definitely put it in your party for a while to pass it around. The extra stat growths are great to have in Nuzlockes.
Besides that, I personally wouldn't use it. As the game progresses and becomes more challenging, you'll want stronger, evolved pokémon to keep up. A level 50 Gardevoir is more effective then a level 50 Furfrou.

If you're having a hard time with choosing pokémon, remember that you will eventually lose one or more. It's inevitable. Best thing to do is train a variety of pokémon, so when that does happen you don't have to worry about training a level 3 that you've been storing. Because that'd be suicide without Exp. Share. :p
So when you start grinding, set a goal for certain pokémon that would be over leveled a bit for that point of the game. Then, switch it out for a while and grab an under leveled pokémon to progress with. Then you have your stronger one waiting for you in the box that you can come back to later without worrying that its not strong anymore.

i.e.
Train Bulbasaur until it evolves and reaches level 20, and switch it for your Onix (who I'm assuming isn't as strong as the rest of your team). Then continue playing with Onix in your team so it can train as well. Then a little while later in the game, you can always grab Ivysaur because you over leveled it and would therefore be about the right level for where you are.

TL;DR:
Don't keep Furfrou, but spread PokeRus. Grind to train a variety of (evolving) pokémon so when one dies you don't have to panic.

edit:
Just noticed that Fletch's Starly is higher leveled then your Staravia. :O

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 5 (Help Needed!)

I'll give my opinion based on Jessie's personality and not on battle strengh/potencial: Furfrou might be a keeper.
I think that Jessie wouldn't have a plain and quiet Furfrou but if it happens to have a "Naughty" nature or something, coupled with the ability to give it a new look (Kabuki perhaps) then it would suit her. If you go ahead with it, I'll go for either Ralts or Riolu to be boxed (like I've said before, they would read Jessie like an open book and if they were kind Pokémon, dislike her).

Heh, this is a much different way from how I usually play, but it might end up being a useful way to get over my strong dislike of boxing Pokémon. If I decide to train all (or at least a good portion of) my viable Pokémon, I won't feel so bad about not keeping them around for a while.

Yeah, I think Fletch got his WTed to him at a higher level, whereas mine was Lv. 1 and I just evolved it as soon as I could.

ANOTHER FUN FACT: Furfrou is actually the first Pokémon I got via WT that wasn't Lv. 1; he's 10, but was still bred.

Yeah, it was the styling aspect specifically that made me think it was a Pokémon she might wish to keep, especially with the Furfrou groomers so close by. :D

Maybe I'll compromise and keep it in party until its fur grows back and she gets bored with it? :p

It's actually pretty cool that both of you weighed in because both pieces of advice are valid, but based entirely on different things; KoN's more on game survivability and LR's on keeping true to my role and the Jessie PoV. I'm trying as best as I can to balance both of these things, so it's pretty cool. Thank you! :D

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 5 (Help Needed!)

According to rule #4 of your first post you are obligated to WT the Furfrou away until you get something different

It's never how I play in normal runs, because I can pick and choose my favorites. I never worry about filling the 'dex and training other stuff until post game.
However, Nuzlockes are different. It's important to keep many strong pokémon both in-team and boxed.

While balance is a good idea, remember that if you don't survive, you won't be able to continue telling the story at all. :p

PMJ, that rule was for if she had already gotten that Pokemon in a wonder trade. She hasn't yet, so the rules let her keep it even though she caught one already. Confusing, I know :/

Like MtheW says:

Though I don't really think it's all that confusing; it just means the dupe clause is only concerned with the Pokémon I actually keep.

And that's why I'm also focusing on playability and not solely on Jessie's wishes. We know how well she battles when left to her own devices. :p

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 5 (Help Needed!)

I think she would keep the Furfrou, she loves styling so that poodle is perfect and it is very helpful early game with the ability to reduce damage from physical attacks. I will be very sad if it is killed though.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 5 (Help Needed!)

She will keep the furfrou, styling it HERSELF, be so proud about how her Furfrou look awesome, when not. And back to Luminose to brag about it in Furfrou salon. But, the furfrou's hairstyless hate her style, fix it. Jessie hate it, and sent it to Geovanni.

Yeah, I think Jessie will do that.

(Not having played the games makes it difficult to remember stuff)

Athena, I've just remembered that Furfrou needs care (yup, I've read that "fur grows back" but it didn't rang a bell until now) or in a few days all the work will be lost so you can either compromise as you've said and proposed or if you find yourself wanting only one of two option and no middle ground, you might wanna go with the battle value and have an excuse (it's actually a valid reason): trimming costs money and time and Jessie, despite her personality, is on a mission so if you have the need to spend money on other things useful for your journey AND you need a stronger Pokémon to keep you going in your wonderlocke/mission, then do it. Not only that, if it were real life (...ok, anime life!) and if she didn't had slave trimmers James & Meowth, Jessie would probably get tired of it really quick since she's the one that wishes to be treated and live like a queen.

You're welcome. ;)

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 5 (Help Needed!)

I do like the potential hilarity that comes from different temporary Furfrou scenarios, so I think I will go with that. I'll train Staravia up a bit (he's my highest leveled, currently) so I can box him temporarily without worrying about him getting too weak. Very nice solution, I think. :D

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 5 (Help Needed!)

If PMJ didn't understand the rule, obviously something was confusing about it :p

Loving the story by the way, you write Jesse's character impeccably

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 5 (Help Needed!)

So Athena, I know you've just yet beated Viola but I've remembered that one of the Gym Leaders you'll be facing is Ramos...Is there any chance of me, Leaf_Ranger, replacing say, Pokémon Ranger Maurice, just for story purposes!? :shy:

That's the way to do it. ;)

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 5 (Help Needed!)

This is quite amazing. Clearly, I need to bring my storytelling abilities up a notch.

Regarding the Furfrou, I would personally recommend you use it to spread Pokerus to the rest of your team and then box it. But story-wise, maybe have Jessie keep it as a personal pet?

Also, I cannot stop imagining Shauna with James' voice. I just can't.

Sure. :D Had to look up where he appeared just to make sure.

Glad to see so many people are enjoying this! :) I've been playing a bit over the weekend (mostly boring training stuff, getting Pokérus spread around, etc.) so I should have another update ready to go on Monday.

RE: Team Rocket's Revenge! A Wonderlocke - Chapter 5

Took me a little while to get done (very busy weekend), but here's Chapter 6!

Chapter 6: Jessie has a good day on the way to the Parfum Palace

In the next morning I left bright and early to start on the way to Camphrier Town. There was a gatehouse leading to the appropriate route, and thankfully this one wasn't blocked off because of the power outage. Normally, the gatehouse wouldn't even be worth mentioning, but in this particular one, I happened to be accosted by a strange man in a purple suit.

"My name is Fletching," he said with wink. "Though, if you prefer, you can call me 'Mr. Bonding.' Let me tell you a little something about O-Powers, if you know what I mean..."

Oh, great, another furry. And a perverted one this time, too. I quickly disengaged myself and ran out of the gate house, bumping into a Lucario accidentally on the way. I started to apologize, but it seemed the Lucario actually had something of a fondness for me. A Pokémon fond of me? That's new. Maybe it just smelled Riolu on me or something. It's trainer, some punk girl on roller blades, introduced herself as as the Gym Leader Korrina (really, they're just letting anyone be a Gym Leader these days, aren't they?) before skating off.

Before I could move much further down the route, my transmitter began to buzz. I quickly ducked behind a nearby patch of grass and was rewarded with another Pokémon, this time a beautiful Furfrou. I couldn't believe it, the most popular and trendy Pokémon of Lumiose City was now mine! It didn't last long, however, as the Pokéball popped out of my hands as soon as I recalled the lovely Furfrou. At first I was angry and startled, but I remembered that I had 6 Pokémon in my party, now, so the other would be automatically be sent by computer link to the Professor's laboratory. In fact, since I deposited Onix to pick up Bulbasaur, I actually had EIGHT Pokémon. The realization kind of came at me like a blow; I guess this is what it feels like to be an actual Pokémon trainer.

I debated going back to the Lab, but I wasn't quite sure I was up to meeting with Prof. Dedenne, especially after the close call with "Mr. Bonding" back there. Instead, I headed to the Pokémon Center to use their PC link to swap around my Pokémon. I temporarily deposited Staravia and withdrew my beautiful Furfrou, politely ignoring that it sneezed all over me and my other Pokémon. Poor thing must be so excited to finally have a fashionable trainer. I quickly took it over to the nearby Furfrou Boutique and had it trimmed in a gorgeous star design that just screamed "classy" then went back out to Route 5, ready to battle in style.

As I reentered the route, I happened to catch sight of a small skating park off to the side. That must have been what drew that Korinna girl to this area. I popped on my skates and did a bit of skating myself, managing to snatch a few items that careless skaters had dropped. Really, people in Kalos just don't seem to care about their stuff at all. I could make a fortune just finding crap on the ground and reselling it.

I eventually grew bored of skating and moved further down the route, dispatching a few trainers as I went. Furfrou was a bit excitable in battle, but it performed adequately. Eventually I ran into the ginger twerp and the fat twerp, and the fat twerp challenged me to a battle. He only had one Pokémon, a pathetic little lobster, and I knocked it out easily with my Fennekin. After the battle was over, I totally forgot to gloat because my little Fennekin began to evolve; I was now the proud owner of a Braixen! Could this day get any better?

I was even somewhat pleasant to the twerps, waving them goodbye as I continued on down the route. My Pokémon and I wandered through the flowers, taking down the trainers as we went, and eventually making our way into sleepy little Camphrier Town. This was where we were supposed to find information about mega evolutions? The place had almost nothing, not even a boutique. There was, however, a cute manor house in the north part of the town, and I headed there after making a quick stop at the Pokémon Center to heal my babies.

James was already already inside the manor, which I discovered was called Shabboneau Castle. There was a tour guide giving out information about the manor, and James was attempting to grill him for information about mega evolution when the guide was suddenly called away because of a problem on Route 7.

James pouted as the man left. "Aww, I thought for sure we'd find some useful mega evolution information here, but it turns out to be a dead end. Let's go see what's going on on Route 7, shall we?"

"You go ahead," I said, "I want to check out this manor to see if I can find anything of interest here first."

True to my word, I searched through the manor while James ran off to Route 7, but the only thing of interested that I found was a climbing rope, which I stole. There was plenty of beautiful artwork and decor all over the house, but as it doubled as a museum, the furniture was grimy and everything was bolted down. In other words, not worth stealing. With a shrug, I headed back out of the manor to meet up with James on Route 7.

On the way, I got a bit lost and somehow stumbled onto a farm. The old man there wanted me to plant a bunch of berries for him, and he wouldn't take no for an answer.* I finally agreed just to shut him up and started planting berries as he walked away, but I only planted a single row before pocketing the rest of the berries and heading further down the route.

Finally I managed to catch up with James and the other dorks standing by a giant Snorlax blocking the path. Go figured. Apparently they needed some kind of thing from the Parfum Palace in order to wake it up so people could go through. I hardly listened to half the words they said, but my ears perked up at "Parfum Palace" which sounded like an amazingly fashionable place to visit, so I quickly agreed to help them out. There were a few more trainers along the way, and I beat them with ease. Imagine my surprise when two more of my Pokémon evolved! Bulbasaur became Ivysaur, and Keromatsu evolved into Frogadier. Now that it had evolved, it finally allowed me to stop calling it by that weird nickname, too. 3 evolutions in one day; could this day get any better?

Just as I was approaching the Palace, I started to get another Pokémon transmission. My new Pokémon was a.... wait, what exactly is that thing? I hardly had a chance to look at it before the Pokémon was zapped up and transmitted into storage. Some kind of pink squishy thing in a helmet? I quickly skated back to town to use the PC and look at it, pulling out my Pokédex so I could get some information. The Pokémon in question was a Shelmet, some weird bug thing. Ugh. I ended up leaving it in the PC and headed back out.

It was starting to get dark now, so I decided to leave the Palace for tomorrow and get some sleep. I happened to see a hotel in Camphrier that I thought I could treat myself with a night at, but when I went up to inspect the rooms, the creepy little Mr. Bonding was waggling his eyebrows at me suggestively. I quickly changed my mind about renting a room and went to spend the night at the Pokémon Center. Man, does that guy give me the creeps. Still, all in all, a good, productive day.

Braixen - Lv. 16
Riolu - Lv. 16
Ralts - Lv. 16
Frogadier - Lv. 16
Ivysaur - Lv. 16
Furfrou - Lv. 15

Highlights/Notes/Thoughts:

* - Really, the farmer guy doesn't take no for an answer. If you pick "no" he'll just ask you again and keep doing so until you finally say yes. I really could picture Jessie and the farmer arguing over and over on the pathway. She's not the type to enjoy physical work.

Most of this chapter is kind of halfassedly written because I did the Route 5 and Camphrier Town stuff over the weekend and didn't jot down any notes, so I'm mostly going off of memory. And my memory is crap, so there you go. I don't actually think Fennekin evolved in the battle with Tierno (I think it was some other trainer further down the route), but creative license says this reads pretty well so THERE IT GOES INTO THE STORY. Kind of funny getting all 3 evolutions together like that, but I guess that's what happens when you have 3 starters in your party.

You're welcome to vote on putting Shelmet into the team, but unless a lot of people make a really good case for it, it's probably sticking in the PC. I can't see Jessie being fond of Shelmet at all, and I don't particularly think it would make that great of an addition to my team, even allowing the trade evolution.
