I suppose I see what you mean about Mint condition. Did they only run this print for European English release?

Yea that is correct.

I believe it's technically the 8th (and final) print of the Base set printed only in the UK.

It's referred to as the 4th print, as there are 4 common print runs, but when speaking completely technical (like down to the printing times) it would be the 8th print (that we know of). :)

@viperfox~ The holo on those last 3 cards is beautiful!

@theducktamer~ Congratulations! Such a simple card to finish off the set :p
Do you have any other complete Base Set runs?

Jeeze! Is it even possible to tell when the other 4 of the 8 were printed? I thought the only way to tell was by aesthetics or by the date on the bottom.

In 2000, I purchased a Tropical Mega Battle No. 1 card for 500,000 yen. It is the crown jewel of my collection.

Prints 3 through 7 all look identical so you can't tell them apart. The other prints are easily distinguishable though. You've got the original 1st edition, the shadowless set, and then the 8th Print has 1999-2000 at the bottom of the card. :)

That is a crown jewel indeed! I can imagine it is worth quite a bit more now. :)

I would imagine.

(At today's exchange rate $5,500)

I really have no idea what it might be worth today. But when I bought it, the card more than paid for itself in terms of publicity. I was running a toy store in Tokyo at the time, and we also had an online store that was very popular among Pokemon collectors outside of Japan. Several magazines and newspapers did stories on the sale of the card, and that only helped bring more traffic to my store and website.

Those early years of Pokemon were crazy-fun! :D

So, I was right about the name. I used to buy from you.

Well, I'm a first timer in this thread, but I've been collecting Japanese Pokémon cards for about six years now, so I am somewhat familiar with the ropes. :3

Anyways, a brief intro: I'm HeatRotomFTW97, or Jason, and I'm 16 years old. I've played Pokémon since Ruby came out in the States in 2003, but I never really started collecting until around January 2007, when I received an Entry Pack DP (first edition) for my birthday. Ever since then, I've been enthralled with the production value and sheer quality of Japanese cards; they are made so much better than their English counterparts are...

I started taking Japanese lessons in 2007. As I understood more Japanese, I began to appreciate the Japanese cards even more. I only collect Japanese cards now.

My long term goal for collecting has been to complete every Japanese set that came out in a booster box (starting with Base and up to the present). Right now, I'm just focusing on anything that came in a booster pack, but I hope to work on decks and promos eventually, when I have more time/more money to devote. Right now, though, I'm focused on completing a first edition set of every Japanese booster set.

I started buying boxes of new sets around when DP2: Mystery of the Lakes came out. Since then, I have obtained a full set of every set released in Japan. I'm only missing 3-4 ultra rare from BW8. Other than that, I have every card in 1st edition from DP2-BW8. It's quite fulfilling.

I've attempted to do some backtracking. So far, I've managed a (almost, I'm missing Tyranitar 142/141) complete set of VS and a complete set of Gym: Challenge of the Darkness. That's about as far as I've gone backtracking. I am always looking for sealed boxes pre-DP2 in first edition when applicable, especially from the ADV/PCG eras. This is a long term goal, but I'd love to have every card from Base-present in my possession, in Japanese. Even DP2-BW8 looks cool! XD

As a short term goal for collecting, I am trying to complete the 7-card Pal City set. When viper.fox posted an April Fools Day joke in 2009 that showcased the Pal City cards, it reminded me how much I love Masakazu Fukada's art style. So far, I have 4/7 cards. I have a picture of them below.

You can post stories here? Huh.

Well, I began collecting when my big brother gave me his binder of pokemon cards. He had the Dusclops eX power keepers binder. I gave the binder to my other brother, and kept the cards.

The only key card in the binder was the POP holo promo Suicune. I still have it.

So, I bought a infernape tin. I forgot my pulls.

I bought more nd more packs, with no memory to support it. Well, now. I got a MASSIVE collection of cards. Last time counted, around 1,000. And that was 3 years ago. And I bought way more stuff now then those days. I am currently doing a massive organization of uncommon tins, common tins, Trainer tins, Etc. Etc. So, a photo will be posted soon!

My pirze card: Either Mew full art or Computer search. I don't have many things to brag about.

My shiny collection. I even put Lugia and Sableye in the background :)

Really Japanese sets! It would be so surprising to see a guy like you in the US collecting Japanese sets. I'd name myself a collector than a player. Living in the other side of the world, my poor collection of Japanese sets can only be stored in the small boxes. I hope to see more Japanese cards from you and other similar collectors. I'll upload some of my collections the other day.

I will upload my Voltorb collection by summer! I just need some more to show off. Prepare yourselves!

We also have [member]NarcoticHobo[/member], [mod]SoulWind[/mod], and [smod]omahanime[/smod] as collectors of Japanese cards living in the USA.

While I'm casually in my bubble in Australia, haha.

There are more JP card collectors stateside and in the UK as well than most people think.
