THE Durant thread: Durant NV.

Good luck getting that huge legend out there without Twins and without setting anything else up before they mill you out. Even if they do, it takes 3-4 turns just to charge the thing, and then you need six energy in your hand to consistently attack. I'm not seeing it.

Then let's try this:
1-arcanine.jpg

One fire, one colorless to KO Durant every turn. And a comfortable 110 HP.

Now we're talking. :)

Let's see... 70+30 still falls short. I wish it had one retreat, though, for the Cobalion versions. Still, it's easily arguable that it's better than Victini, because of the higher HP and you don't need to fill your bench out.

^ Teching in a stage 1 to beat a deck is really clunky. They'll just mill a part of it before you can evolve or something. I don't see how that's better than the above options.

Collector, Communication (There's 4 of each in almost every deck.). Now it's in your hand and can't be milled. Ta daaaa.

And if you really just wanna urinate in the cheerios of a Durant player, you put four energies on it just to use Fire Mane.

But, with victini, you dedicate less spots and it's a basic, so it's easier to get out.

Only one less spot, and they would attack on the same turn if you benched them at the same time, because Victini still needs {R}{C} to attack.

Most lists are pretty tight nowadays. I just don't see it seeing play due to the fact that it's a stage 1. It's just not splashable imo

It's not as splashable, but it's a 1-card tech vs a 2-card tech. If you're truly desperate to beat Durant, a lot of decks would prefer an Arcanine-style tech. Heatmor is still going to be better than any of these are, of course.

Although, running two Victini might be superior to this. Idk.

when heatmor comes out, durant will probably be a dead deck because of all the one shotters that will be released

I just don't see victini as a decent counter. It likely needs a rainbow, which is easy to lost remove, and it requires 5 benched pokemon, which means they will have something to catcher that may have a high retreat cost.

The thing is, the deck that needs this the most is Chandelure. Chandelure has the trainer lock to stop Lost Remover and Pokémon Catcher, but Celebi's point may keep it from working.

We can't use inconsistent 3 energy techs like Ho-oh or Arcanine because they will take to long to get out, so even if you are able to knock out a Durant each turn, they can still mill you out because you won't be getting that Pokémon out and attacking until turn 3-5.

Assuming that's your only tech, you should be using it T3 at the latest. Collector and communication are currently the two most commoncards in the format, and using them both will get you the basic and Stage 1. It's only a matter of using a draw supporter to get a {R} or Rainbow after that.

It is the energy I am worried about.

You use one or sometimes two energy to retreat your starter. Then you can attach any energy as your fist attachment. Then you have to hope to draw a {R}/ Rainbow energy. So you have 4 Rainbow Energy in your Chandelure, taking the place of your {P}, or at least most of them (most Chandelure variants use 6 {P}. If you ever want to Eerie Glow outside of the Durant matchup, it will mean having to attach a Rainbow giving Chandelure 120 HP, allowing Reshiram of Zekrom to knock it out.

Then take out only two {P} for Rainbow, and drop something unnecessary for two fire. Remember, fire can be used for Eerie Glow as well. As soon as you see a Durant, Collector for Growlithe and Doduo (I assume all Chandelure lists run this) and attach to Growlithe. You can Communication the other away for a Stage 1. T2 Evolve one and PONT, looking for the other Stage 1 and another energy (or a way to get them). Retreat for free with Dodrio and swing wild with Arcanine.

*Edit:
If you're running Vileplume, you should get it out after you got the Stage 1's. That will keep Durants from Reviving and stop any energy removal.

I forgot about Dodrio :p. I don't like a 4 (6 is you include Psychic to Rainbow swap that weakens Chandelure) card tech, but it still could work.

Not having a Pokémon Communication and Pokémon Collector also makes this slower. 3-4 Pokémon Collector and 2-3 Pokémon Communication (more for the Speed varient) mean that there is a good chance that you'll start with them, but is still not a guarantee.

Perhaps a Duraudino deck would be useful. The Audino from NV , 85/101, has the move "Do the Wave", which does 10 damage times the number of your Benched Pokemon. Paired with Durant, with the Devour attack, if you have a Bench full of Durant and your main attacking Durant is near the end of it's rope then you can bring in an Audino and do 50 damage. Not much, but it gives you a chance to heal the Durant and do some damage to the main attacker on your opponent's field.

OFF TOPIC: Haha, in my last few posts it's always been pokemonjoe following up.

ON TOPIC: I don't really think that Black Belt would be needed in the first place. Durant isn't really about attacking, and the Black Belt is mainly for those who wish to do damage when they have a higher amount of Prizes and need to catch up to their opponent. But, I guess if it goes along with the type of Durant deck you want, then it is up to your own discretion. :)

Black Belt is useful because if your opponent has a single Pokémon attacking, Durant can actually drop a Black Belt and energy and knock out the Pokémon, and since most often there is a single Pokémon, Durant would win.
