RE: The PokeBeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

I did not know there was an authority higher than Zenith

RE: The PokeBeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

Way to show some ignorance...

I said orchestral music. Orchestral =/= Classical.

RE: The PokeBeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

Orchestral music is not a definite genre. It means any music that is played by an orchestra (typically defined as a group of musicians consisting of string, brass, woodwind, and percussion sections); most of what an orchestra typically plays falls under the realm of classical, which is why I used it as a synonym.

@bacon: There isn't, but sometimes I like to let DarthPika think that people care about his opinions.

Hail DarthPika!

Dude, it's music. You can't tell me what I put in my ears. You're not my mom.

Speaking of music, does anyone here like Bob Marley?

RE: The PokeBeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

Post of the year!

A few bands I've gotten into recently: Au Revoir Simone, The Postal Service (even though I don't like Death Cab for Cutie), Letting Up Despite Great Faults, Blue October (US), Atom and His Package, and Arcade Fire. All pretty good bands.

RE: The PokeBeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

I recently downloaded the Avey Tare album "Down There" and I've pretty much been listening to it on repeat since. Anyone else like or heard the album?
@Safariblade: I guess. I like Wilco and Buke and Gass and Neutral Milk Hotel and Grizzly Bear and Dirty Projectors and (early) Vampire Weekend if those count.

RE: The PokeBeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

Anyone listen to U2? Best. Band. Ever.
As far as Indie, I listen to some, but not a lot. Modest Mouse and Wilco are pretty good.

RE: The PokeBeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

What really irritates me is when a band discovers a catchy tune, and gets millions for it. It's like winning the lottery. Getting famous just by chance isn't fair.

Yes, I'm talking to you, 1 Republic.

RE: The PokeBeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

All bands get popular and successful through random chance. You're not going to receive millions just for being a good band. You need to create a song that has near-universal appeal, and because the kind of song that has that changes constantly, it's basically right-place-right-time luck.

In fact, one could argue that you become famous in two ways: Random chance or making yourself famous. Not to invoke Godwin's Law (seriously, this isn't an example of Godwin's Law), but one of Adolf Hitler's goals was to be remembered forever, and we certainly remember him today for his various atrocities.

A band does not becomes famous because they're good. A band becomes famous because they're lucky. Some bands that are good become lucky, but the point is that no famous artist band got to where they are today without random chance.
