Basically, what we have here is a thread for general discussion of music. Discuss new music, upcoming music, and your "style" of music. What do you listen to? Talk about your favorite artist, genre, song, and/or album. However, make sure that when talking about your music of best interest that you keep it at a good length that can be used for discussion. This isn't a "favorite" thread. I'll start by contributing a little bit to the discussion.

I'm a floater. I'll listen to pretty much any genre. I wouldn't say that I hate rap, because some artists such as Lil' Wayne, Eminem, and Kanye West are actually talented musicians that can keep themselves from merely rhyming about the girl they recently broke up with. Actually, Kanye's new song, 'Runaway', is actually one of my favorite new songs at the moment. It fits in with his new style nicely, and it works.

Speaking of new style, let me tell you, I am really digging MCR's new style. I couldn't even bear it at first, as my first listen of "Na Na Na" made me fear over what I thought was the decline of MCR's quality music. After multiple listens and a couple views of the music video that goes along with it, I decided that the change was for the best, as it keeps their music fresh and exciting. I'm overjoyed to hear positive reviews of the album, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys.

Kanye's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and MCR's "Danger Days" will both be released on November 22nd.

Discuss!

Edit: Note that you don't have to add to my post on new music. Talk about anything music that you'd like to.

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music v2

I like Na Na Na too. At first I was thinking it would be annoying. What do you expect with a name like Na Na Na? I don't love it, but I've never really loved MCR that much anyway. They are good, just good.

Bands I am loving at the moment are Pierce the Veil and The Gay Blades.
Pierce the Veil is alternative rock I guess. kinda punk. In that general area. They are really amazing. Their lyrics all are pretty poetic and are all real. They write about stuff that happens to them, and more then just rhyming about a girl they broke up with lol. They are just really great and different and you should check them out.

The Gay Blades are an indie band I just found recently and they are pretty good too. Very different from PTV so if you didnt like them, don't give up on me yet. They have clever lyrics and a good sound. They are worth a listen.

So there are my bands for you =]

decline in MCR's music quality

oh god.

I listen to a bunch of stuff. I guess hip hop is what I listen to the most, both indie (Sage Francis, Atmosphere, Grieves, Murs, B. Dolan), and commercial (Lil Wayne, Drake, Kanye), stuff. Lots of oldschool stuff too, but I haven't been in the mood for that as much lately. Also really big into indie (as a style), stuff (Bright Eyes, Arcade Fire, Explosions in the Sky). Classic rock (Bob Dylan, Beatles, The Who, John Lennon) is also a big one for me.

Outside of those I like a little of everything.

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music v2

Hahaha. I would have to agree with you, kwisdumb, as I also like a little of everything. While I enjoy certain hip-hop artists such as Eminem, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne, I also enjoy classic rock artists and groups, such as The Beatles, U2, Queen, and The Rolling Stones.

Also, has anyone heard of or enjoys deadmau5? I've recently been really getting into his style. It's catchy and great music for the dance floor.

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music v2

yeah deadmau5 is iight... I don't think he is that great though. The VMA's did wonders for him. I had never heard about him, and now he is everywhere

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music v2

my mum likes deadmau5 its ok

I like gorillaz and a new song is out (not part of plastic beach)

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music v2

I'm all about the genres Techno and Chiptune.

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music v2

<3 chiptune. Anamanaguchi and FantomenK are probably my favorites right now, but I'll listen to most chiptune.

Right now I'm also obsessed with Hellogoodbye, which is good because they're releasing a new album in less than a month.

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music v2

If we're on the topic of music: http://www.last.fm/user/tornheartworld

J-pop, K-pop. Electronic. Alternative rock- WROCK. :D

So my huge lists of favorites, I guess:
Utada
Emilie Simon

Kate Havnevik
Kerli
Perfume
Yoko Shimoura (she did the music for Kingdom Hearts)
Ayumi Hamasaki
The Ministry of Magic
Draco and the Malfoys
Harry And the Potters
Avril Lavigne
SNSD/Girls Generation
Super Junior
Lights
Weird Al
Within Temptation

But yea, I typically like most stuff except Metal, and popular stuff.

I'm reaaaaaaaaaalllllllyyy addicted to the people in bold up there, (particularly the two that are large) right now.

But since this isn't a favorites thread, let's talk about Utada (cause she's awesome) She's really been my favorite singer of all time- Simple and Clean has been my favorite song since I was 8. I don't just listen to her english stuff (But Kremlin dusk is like asklfjas OMFG AMAZING. <3333333) Her japanese stuff is amazing as well - Passion (sanctuary in Japanese; but entirely different lyrics and meaning) is really really good. Deep River is also one of her best.

I like final Distance by her, but Distnace is much more upbeat, and the two remixes (m-flo and Planet B) are absolutely stunningly amazing.<33333) IIRC, Final Distance was in honor of this little girl who was shot when a school janitor went on a rampage in Japan. ;~;

Letters- pfft catchy. <3 And although at this point in my lfie I don't want to even think about love, This is love, is stunning. The intrumentals are amazing. heehee~ Keep Tryin'- Picks me up when I'm in a funk. Such great songs.

Alright, I'll stop now. I could do a lot more on all of her songs though. She's just amazing. <3 So much emotion in her songs- in her voice. (Again, Kremlin Dusk = <33333333333333333)

Lights, if you like Owl City, you'll love her. Really really great artist. Her song "Lions!" is by far one of the best songs I have ever heard.Good, upbeat, happy. Hopeful. Strong. And it's about World of Warcraft- what's not to love?

SNSD sings Gee which says enough about their awesomeness. one of the best pop music of recent, imho. <333333333333 Their songs are extremely catchy as well...

/shuts up

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

^^^
Lol I have heard of Harry and the Potters before xD They are pretty funny. But I haven't heard of any of those other bands

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

Also, has anyone heard of or enjoys deadmau5? I've recently been really getting into his style. It's catchy and great music for the dance floor.

Ah yes, I forgot to mention him last time. He's another one of my favorite artists, definitely.

Is anyone else here a fan of film scores at all? I've recently been getting into some of Alan Silvestri's work--The Mummy Returns in particular. Lots of great action cues and mood music in there. Hands down, better than Jerry Goldsmith's work with The Mummy. Night at the Museum 2 isn't bad either, though overall feels a little more on the generic side.

And of course...being a HUGE Daft Punk fan, I can't wait for the release of the Tron: Legacy soundtrack. Even if I never get to see the movie, what little bit I've heard of the music so far has definitely got my attention! A must-buy for me. You can sample a few tracks here:

"Derezzed"
"The Game Has Changed"

And while we're on the subject of orchestral music...has anyone heard of E.S. Posthumus? They're a more obscure group that focuses on symphonic rock/cinematic-style music. If you're a big sports fan, you may have heard some of their stuff before--they're responsible for the MLB Tonight theme, for one. Another of their tracks, "Nara", was used in part for the theme of Cold Case.

But anyway...of all their albums, Unearthed sticks out in my mind most of all. It's got lots of variation between tracks and great use of electronic elements throughout. I'd highly recommend this one for anyone looking into them for the first time. They took their next two albums in totally different directions, it seems like--Cartographer feels like it was made with vocals in mind, and Makara is more on the symphonic rock side of things.

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

I am a terrible Utada fan. I forgot to mention:

Beautiful World
Is anyone else here a fan of film scores at all?
YES. Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, and Pirates of the Caribbean are some of my favorites. Howard shore, in LOTR, does an absolutely fantastic job with it. It's just <3. I also adore VG music, like Kingdom hearts, Final Fantasy, and stuff like that. :3

Lol I have heard of Harry and the Potters before xD They are pretty funny. But I haven't heard of any of those other bands
Harry and the Potters are cool, but Draco and the Malfoys, and The Ministry of Magic is far superior. xDDDD Imho, anyways.

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

I personally prefer classical music and classic rock (a la The Beatles), but some modern bands tickle by music bone, like They Might Be Giants and the Flaming Lips.

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

I'm really dissapointed in the Gorillaz's newest album:" Plastic Beach" Don't get me wrong, it's good that they are experimenting with new musical styles and trying different things, but they've gone too far from their area of skill and knowledge.

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

The type of music I am into is heavy metal and all of its subgenres. I also listen to classical, rock, jazz, and a some soundtracks.

Decrepit Birth's newest album Polarity is a force to be reckoned with. Honestly, I felt their previous releases to be a little boring and too much guitar wankery. But, all of that has changed for me with this. Right from the get go, you can tell they changed up their style from technical death metal to something a little more melodic. I really like where these guys are going with Polarity. Songs I would recommend are Solar Impulse and Ignite the Tesla Coil.

Inherit Disease is not exactly well known, but they get the job done with Visceral Transcendence. If you want crushing death metal, these guys are it. Songs I would recommend are Sentient Horror and Beyond the Tyranny of Entropy.

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

Woah O_O I've sort of forgotten about this thread.
It's New Music Tuesday, though! New music on iTunes this week includes:

1. Man on the Moon: Vol. II(album) Kid Cudi
2. The Time (The Dirty Bit)- Single The Black Eyed Peas
3. Some Chords- Single Deadmau5
4. Cannibal- Single Ke$ha

What do you guys think?
My most listened to song this week- Runaway by Kanye West feat. Pusha-T.
Feel free to discuss any of the above music and/or any other music you'd like to talk about!

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

I dont have the option of finding links to all of them, but they are easy to find of youtube.

I prefer japanese music. And no, its not an anime thing. I just like their style of music.

My favorite singer would easily be Nana Mizuki.
She is win.

Of her songs, so far I really like; Eternal Blaze, Secret Ambition, Massive Wonders, Pray and others.

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

I've actually found myself getting into some metal recently after listening to some Apocalyptica--and this is coming from someone who largely dislikes the genre as a whole. A lot of their music does away with the one thing I hate most about most metal I've listened to; that being the overly loud, screechy singing. Not only that, but the way the shred on those cellos...amazing.

Anyone have any suggestions as to other metal bands/artists in the same vein as Apocalyptica? Like...more instrumental stuff, preferably. I'd really like to find more music like this.

Also of note...a guy I recently discovered by the name of Pogo. I posted a couple YouTube vids of his in the media thread the other night--he's definitely worth checking out if you're a fan of Disney and electronic music. A lot of his work involves taking snippets from various Disney films and mixing them into full-fledged pieces of music. My favorites of his are Toyz Noize, Wishery, Alice, and Upular.

Definitely some impressive stuff there. Now if only he could do something for Pirates of the Caribbean...I'd die happy.

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

Well, if you like Apocalyptica, I can recommend some bands for you. Nightwish and Imperia are symphonic metal bands with lead female singers. Very nice to listen to. Some good songs from Nightwish are Wanderlust, Nemo, Wishmaster, and Tutankhamen. Those are some I can think of at the top of my head. For Imperia, I would recommend Mirror, Braveheart, and Mysted by Desire. These songs should give you a good idea of what they are.
As for instrumental bands, Animals as Leaders is really something. Metal is only a part of their style. You could hear influences that span many genres in their self titled album. I'm quite sure you will like it. Its not symphonic, but it sure is beautiful, nonetheless. All their songs are enjoyable, to say the least.

RE: The Pokebeach Thread of Mucus...erm-Music

Something else that came out yesterday: Hellogoodbye's sophomore effort, Would It Kill You?. It's a lot like the first album, only moreso. And also better.

I think I might be the only Hellogoodbye fan here, though.
