XY The Regional Pokedex -- What we know is in it so far

There is Zigzagoon before Fletchling and the Pokemon cut in half is Pidgey.

i'm still going to guess that it's possibly a new pokemon since the colors don't match up well. i'd guess it's due to the blue, but zigzagoon is fine.

While I'm here, I might as well speculate haha~

I hope the dex has some pokemon that haven't been in dexes for a while (a lot of gen 1-3 pokes), less regulars (coughzubatcough), and at least 300 pokemon in it

@Mitja, how come you didn't count any of the Pokemon on your list from the Mewtwo trailer?

Oh, you're right, I didn't.

I thought Mewtwo gaining a forme is kind of an event/post-game thing so I automatically excluded it from all the official XY footage, since everything else is supposed to be showing off the main game.

But let me take another look.
-genesect (thats obviously there due to movie)
-rampardos
-cloyster
-gyarados
-machamp
-zangoose

apart from some of them seeming to be super-effective cases, they are very random choices, but it could be that they are limited to kalos obtainable.

Also, I ignored Sylveons too for some reason now that I think about it..
It has:
-Hariyama
-Gligar
-Krookodile

I am kind of skeptical about Rampardos since old fossils are never in newer regional dexes.

Yeah, there's absolutely nothing to suggest that the movie takes place anywhere near Kalos. Doesn't it feature a really big city that clearly isn't Lumiose?

With one exception: the Johto Dex. But that was because Johto didn't introduce any new fossils, so they borrowed Kanto's. Therefore, I think it is possible for Rampardos to be in the Dex, but only if there are no 6th gen fossil Pokemon.

Or if there is just one and its also a dinosaur themed etc.

First, I have a question; where does it say 700 pokemon? And does that mean the regional will have 700? Or 700 pokemon are available in the game? Or is it just the number of pokemon will be over 700 now?

Anyways, I think finding a more diverse group of pokemon would be more enjoyable. I'd hate to see just mostly gen 4 & 5 pokemon, because they're "less annoying". Honestly, I don't even really like gen 5, so I don't prefer them anyways. However I wouldn't mind them being including equally just for diversity. It would be nice to have all areas include a vast number of pokemon so it seems like the place is thriving.

I know it's a bit exaggerated, but for the most part, that's how I picture a sea full of pokemon. You know rather than being able to only catch a few options like earlier mentioned. Being reasonable, I know it'd never (or nowhere in the near future) be that vast, but its less tedious when you encounter 7 or 8 different pokemon rather than 2 or 3 in some cases.

Also, for those who say that the trailers could be post-game, come on. You can't really think that their first trailer would include post gameplay this early? (aside from Mewtwo, not sure if he'll be in the regional or not. Probably just for movie purposes) I think it's a possibility that not every pokemon we have seen is in the dex, but it seems likely since GF is very clever about their marketing strategies and they know how to tease the audience. I'm quite positive that these pokemon were probably hand picked because its strategic to put older pokemon in the first bits of promotional media.

Someone mentioned that these pokemon may have just been the ones to have their models completed. Unlikely, for us (the fan community) it is early, but for GF they didn't just come up with this idea when BW2 were launched. They had to have been brewing this early on, maybe even while BW2 development was happening. There's only one season left before October (summer!) and I doubt they're still finishing up models at this point. If anything they're working on finishing touches, perfecting things to their taste, making sure everything runs smooth. They don't work on the game right up until launch month.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that they started development straight after gen IV and at the same time as gen V! That's a long time, the models would have been finished ages ago :)

If you zoom in on the picture of the pokedex on the x and y website, you can see a zigzagoon, two slots before a fletchling

the movie's director Kunihiko Yuyama stated that it was based on an american city such as new york, to contrast genesects ancient nature, so you're correct, it has nothing to do with lumiose

Most of the Pokemon shown do seem like a good fit for Kalos from what we've seen. So I wouldn't be surprised if many of these are in the Kalos Dex.

Oh yeah, for got about that. The Johto dex also had 6 starters and 2 rodents but I guess that's because it is connected to Kanto.

That's because the Johto Dex was made before the concept of a regional dex even existed. I don't really think it's a good idea to look to the Johto Dex as a precedent, but other games have shown that the regional dex can include multiple Com Mons, so whatever.

Time to blow your minds:

There's no guarantee the Pokemon shown in the videos are in the Kalos regional dex (excluding Kalos natives obv). It could just be random Pokemon.

Discuss.

I don't think that was ever the case with previous trailers and promotional stuff for a new gen game. (even beta screenshots would feature Weavile/Chatot and whatnot)

Besides, take the 1st trailer for example. The pokemon seem very random..but out of all things, there is a Golurk in a battle. Do you suppose it is a coincidence when there is also a Golurk statue at one scene?

If they didn't limit their choices to casual pokemon found in the game, then I would expect things like Charizard, Tyranitar...in other words, the famous guys... not Psyduck, Magikarp, Pansear and Golurk...

I've seen Kirlia in the trailer, and my mind went "totally having Gardevoir/Gallade on my team" and "oh, Magikarp...proper fishing is back".
This is not in-development-footage, its the actual adverts.

Not to mention the thread would be pointless if all the info we have so far can be considered "unreliable" or something.

I didn't say none of the Pokemon would be in the game; I said that they are not all necessarily in the regional dex just because they were shown in battle.

Also consider that Gamefreak is pretty good at trolling so there's no telling what they'd do :O

Yes I agree ^

And also as I previously mentioned it is a possibility for those pokemon to be completely random, but seems unlikely. Out of every Pokemon we have so far, I can't imagine that they just happened to pick those. Even when BW2 was approaching you would start seeing hints of Pokemon in adverts and the anime. Whenever Pokemon are returning we start seeing more of them in other places. I think in a way they're almost subliminal rather than hints.

It could very well be a mixture of actual and not.
But it is safe to say that old pokemon will definitely be returning
