What if, due to the scales on its wings, its ability was Multiscale?

How about multitype?

why not just give more early pokemon the abilities of the god pokemon?

i think it's ability is likely either multiscale or color change like kecleon (i think that's it's ability's name...). idk why.

When you said color change I started thinking about how some butterflies have designs on their wings to ward off predators. Like the owl butterfly. Maybe Vivillon's wing design can change with weather patterns or something similar?

Scatterbug - "This Bug type uses the fur around its neck to control its body temperature."
Also
"Scatterbug can survive in any area, regardless of climate."

Scatterbug can apparently adapt to any climate by controlling it's internal temperature. I would assume that even though Vivillon loses the fur, it could still possess this power. So back to my idea that maybe the scales on it's wings change with weather climate so that it can adapt to different areas and maybe gain some sort of advantage from that?
Then it makes Vivillon's not-so-unusual typing into something more unique.

if this turns out to be right, im giving you a prize of 50 free chocolate chip cookies because i hope this is how it turns out

I'd love it if Vivillon's wing pattern was random, much like Spinda's spots.

I don't know if this has been pointed out, but its wings seem to be making an 'E3' -- the 'E' on our left (its right wing) and the '3' on the opposite wing. Very likely not the secret that was teased, but because it was revealed at E3, I thought it merited a mention! Could be just one of the many secrets.

seems more likely to be coincidence to me, i mean, that would kinda make it a pokemon just made for a one time 3 day event. that seems pretty pointless, don't you think?
but, if it doeshave pattern changing, i can see why they showed this pattern at E3

Vivillon looks very... digital to me... I wonder if this has something to do with its design.

Festive, I see it as a partying pokemon, it already has a musical/ disco ball feel in its design

the party pokemon? hm...

look at the top right disco move of this picture (the 3rd one).
doesn't it look like vivilions upper parts of each of it's wings

Actually, it does. That dance move is actually... Well, you could say it's like Disco's "mascot". lol
Anytime someone sees that, especially in media-filled countries, they'll recognize it as the "Disco Dance".

But how does that correlate to Vivillon?

Yes, I suppose if you really wanted to read that much into it.

It's not reading into it much. Actually, it hardly is at all, especially if you're a long time artist that pays attention to detail. Artists pay attention to detail because we want our art to look good, not like it came from the underside of a dead cow under a U-Haul in the middle of New York City (where the f did all that come from lol).
All you have to do is look at the shapes and colors and you'll see it.

Game freak's designs are usually filled with intent, but I think this time, you guys are just reading too much into it. Following that reasoning, mothim's wings are two fat arms ready to give you a hug, but that doesn't make it the hug pokemon.

Mothim's wings resemble Wormadam Steel cloak's arms, so maybe the other coats weren't there at first?

I am an artist, and as an artist, I know that we pay close attention to detail.
Hell, I get so mad when I finish a piece, and then notice a tiny thing wrong with, say the hair. It could even be something as small as a 5cm space that wasn't blended as well as the rest of the hair was.
I just didn't see it like that. I saw it as an extension of its wings.
Like another said, I see the Vivillon line as a farewell to pixellated sprites.

Who says it can't be both? It sure as hell wouldn't be the first time. I mean, almost every pokemon is based off of at least 2 or 3 things.

I know, but really, what are the chances that it's based off of a disco dancer?
Just from a very subtle aesthetic design? I don't think so. I literally see it as a farewell to pixels mixed with a butterfly.
