What Can Be Done to Improve PokeBeach Forums?

Then just call it Player's Plaza. Alliterations FTW. It can be for returning and newer players, and it is somewhat catchy. But honestly, names for forums don't even matter. We could have made up a cool name for the Entertainment and Games section, but we didn't, so what makes this "new" forum deserving of a special name?

The point is to make it more obvious that returning or new player threads go there.

We've definitely had issues with people posting new/returning player threads in Competitive Collective and General Discussion, so changing the name of that forum is a potentially good idea. Does anybody have any ideas on a better name, though?

_____________

Player's Plaza doesn't get the point across well enough.

That's what the description under the forum name is for. The name doesn't need to pull them in; as long as there is something that identifies what the forum is about, then it should be fine. Here's some bad names I came up with:

-Player's Paradise
-Diving into the Trading Card Game (TCG) (you know, because Pokebeach has a beach theme)
-Base Camp

I don't know, they seem pretty horrid to me, but whatever.

Well we are still having the problem. People see Competitive Collection or anything TCG related and post there first. If they were to see new player's forum or something like that, everything would be fine. That is why the name needs to be changed.

Diving into the TCG could work, I think its obvious enough.

These names don't fully identify what it's about, though. All of the other forums in the TCG section do that very well. The place you're supposed to discuss news and general stuff has those words in the title. The place for deck help and editing has deck in the title. The place for competitive talk has competitive in the title. The place for discussing tournaments and premier events has organized play in the title. The place to find game rulings has game rulings in the title. Etc. The place for new players to ask about the basics of the game has... facility in the title? I feel like it should have new or ideally new player in the title, for maximum clarity.

maybe they should learn. they could look it up and actually gain a piece of vocabulary worth more than seven points in Scrabble.

But honestly, what kind of name is Player's Omnibus Plaza anyway? It sounds a bit silly, honestly, and the name could live just as well without the 'Omnibus' in the middle.

Lol but no, the point is to be more obvious, but thanks for the suggestion though.

How about something with "Beginner" in it? "Beginner's (Box/Binder/*insert something cool here*)". Then when new people come here and haven't played for a while they think "Oh, I'm new-ish! I'll look here!"
Plus Players Plaza sounds kinda cheesy imo. Nobody wants to look at a forum with 'omnimbus'. It'll make them think of school...

Hm... I don't really think it's fair to have two TCG teams and no VG teams.

I know that VG isn't very active. But if we set up teams that rival each other (ex., Red team rivals Blue team) for the VG players, it might promote activity to the VG forums. And I'd love it if someone set up a guide to PO for new VG players. I know that Bippa has already set up a guide, but what about a new player's guide? That would help me and other new VG players. (techinally, I've been playing VG for three years, but I don't know anything about building a team.)

I know that Pokebeach is a TCG-based forum... but it is Pokemon-themed, after all. Why not include VG, too? :)

I assume that the TCG teams are still being tested out.. Once the VG picks up steam, there should be VG teams as well. Though as I am not a VG mod, I can not guarantee anything.

Personally, I don't think that we have enough people to have VG teams. The primary goal should be increasing activity there and then we can work on competition between all of us.

Right now we're working on building the community, not separating it.

and this is why we don't have a trading section or much VG activity to speak of.

Do you mean a guide that shows how to use PO, or a guide that deals with VG concepts? If it's the former: http://www.pokebeach.com/forums/thread-pokemon-online-server-faq

Whoops. Sorry, Chariblaze. I meant a introduction on how to build a team for (new) VG players. Both my teams are created by others, but I want to build a team for myself. I'm wondering where to find a guide that will help me build a team. If that's already covered by Bippa, maybe I missed a small fine print. :p

My first team was made by Bippa, and the other... I guess someone let me pick the core Pokemon. Then he helped me pick Pokemon that combat the others' weaknesses. :) (if you're wondering about the core Pokemon, I picked Crobat, followed by Gliscor.)

We already have a few articles, for example Bippa's recent team-building article and Teapot's bulky offense guide. You can try reading Smogon guides, too. Also, don't use Crobat.
