What Can Be Done to Improve PokeBeach Forums?

I'd also like to try this mod vs members tournament for competitive battling. It sounds like a great idea.

This is a great idea.

More members than mods and then mods playing 2 people sounds a bit... odd. Also, why not single elimination? It would be a ton easier to keep track of.

He was talking about competitive battling, not TCG.

We only have about 10 mods who can do this. If we do it one on one instead of two on one, it's only accessible to 10 members. About 30 members wanted to play the mini cup one.

Double elimination allows people to play longer and takes off a lot of early round pressure.

Yes but a lot of people ended up not completing their games. I guess 2 on 1 is good.
 
I recommend along with changing the name of the card rulings forum, change the name of the Training Facility to make it more obvious that "I'm returning, whats good?" threads go there. I'd also make it a subforum of competitive collection, because they are similar, and give Online Playtesting its on forums.

Another idea is expanding the Online Playtesting section to include other TCG related tournaments such as Serperior's deck contest.
 
^Yeah, I've already been pushing for all of those changes, except the name changes.

We've definitely had issues with people posting new/returning player threads in Competitive Collective and General Discussion, so changing the name of that forum is a potentially good idea. Does anybody have any ideas on a better name, though?

And also I have seen problems with posts such as "Is this card good" in the Card Questions and Game Rulings forum. If it were something like "Card and Game Ruling Questions" there would be less confusion.
 
^Yeah, I think somebody already suggested the Card & Game Rulings thing. It will probably happen pretty soon. I'll bring it up to somebody who has the power to change that.

I don't really like either of those names, though. We need something catchier and smoother, but I'm pretty bad at names too.

When I think of newer players, I think of Professor Oak, so something related to a professor could make an interesting name.

Yeah, I feel like Professor Oak would be even less obvious than Training Facility.

How about something like, "New Player's Corner"? It's hardly different from Glaceon's suggestions, but it's shorter and the Corner thing makes it a little more noticeable/catchy imo.
 
New Player's Corner sounds great- 50 times better than anything I said. We already have the Trading Corner however.

I could see Professor Oak being less obvious. (I told you I was bad at names)

Oh, true. The Corner can be replaced for anything, though. How about one of these:

New Player's Center
New Player's Plaza
Pokémon Trainer School (video game reference :O, but it might not be clear enough)
 
I like Pokémon Trainer School, especially because its a reference, but since we are trying for more obvious I don't think it would be that much of a step up, though the name is better in my personal opinion.

New Player's Plaza sounds like the best new name. Plaza has more... spin than Center does, and sounds better.

There are plazas in VG I think (If I recall correctly, don't count on me for this).

Now that that's done, are there any more opinions? We could also do New/Returning Player's Plaza. That really gets the point across, but it's a little less catchy.
 
Or you could just say Plaza. That edges people on to check out what's inside. Remember, the Training Facility isn't just for new players; it's actually usually people who have played before and are getting back into it.
 
Then they are still new to the new metagame.

If the name were to incorporate returning players it would be a bit too long IMO.

New and Returning Player's Plaza is much less catchy.
 
Then just call it Player's Plaza. Alliterations FTW. It can be for returning and newer players, and it is somewhat catchy. But honestly, names for forums don't even matter. We could have made up a cool name for the Entertainment and Games section, but we didn't, so what makes this "new" forum deserving of a special name?
