Why do people hate on droppers?

...what is the point of dropping when you have a perfect record? Seriously, no one at my league has ever done that. I don't understand who or why someone would do that...

No.... He probably means the people who go X-0 then just drop so they can get their invite. I personally don't see anything wrong with it. They deserve the invite for doing so well, and they are just trying to secure it.

no, he means X-0. chris fulop does that at like..Every tournament so he gets an automatic worlds invite. he also intentionally came late once so he could lose R1 and get placed in the losers bracket. Honestly I don't do it/probably wouldnt..but if I would have dropped before top 2 instead of losing all of my top 2 games I would be 13th in the world, instead of 45th.

It's stupid, you just battle everybody and quit? For what? The guy just ruins your record and drops out. You shouldn't even be allowed to do that (unless there really was some type of emergency and you needed to leave). Anyone who drops out must not be very good or confident if they're too afraid to actually battle until the end of the tournment. And it's not like your gaining anything, it's almost like cheating.

It is actually the EXACT opposite of stupid. It is for people who are watching their premier rating very closely, and care to get a worlds invite, instead of two 2 at a BR's, than being matched up against your counter deck and losing like 20 points. I personally don't do it, but that is because I am a fairly bad player when it comes to giving up, like how I don't scoop in top cut when I'm down 3 prizes and have nothing out, I always forget, because I try to Win at all Costs. Scoop for points is awesome, a clever idea, gets people worlds invite and lets me move into top cut easier :p

Like Vulpix Yolk, I also try to win at all costs, no matter what. That's how I am, and that's why I dislike actions like dropping (which I would consider an act of cowardice). But that's my opinion; if they wanna do it, it's not my problem.

Exactly. It's to preserve rating. I see people doing this all the time and I don't see or have a problem with it at all. You people don't need to get upset about it.

@Tyraniking: It doesn't increase your rating. It just prevents it from going down.

@DNA: Wait, If it doesn't increase your rating then why would you even play in the tournament at all?

I said that the act of dropping itself does not increase one's rating. Winning matches in the actual tournament does. So just win a bunch and drop out. Increase your rating and not have it suffer during top-cut.

its a flaw in the ELO Rating system that can allow such and still have the people maintain high rankings. But who are we to hate on it when all it is, is taking advantage of the system. I like Chris Fulop's suggestion to switching to more of a ranking system MOTG uses.

You lose more points in top cut then in swiss. So, some who really want to keep their points, and say, go 5-0, should drop to keep them.

I honestly don't know what I'd do. I'm not the kind of person who tops often, but if I top at states, I'm not sure if I'll play because I can get farther, or drop to get points.

I would never drop, because I like winning haha. But it's really kind of cheap to do that.

Not exactly. Some people work hard to get an invite, and by dropping, it helps secure their hard-earned invite.

Take Fulop for example. He works hard to go X-0, and if he loses every first game in top, he wouldn't be as high as he should be. I see nothing wrong with dropping.

It's actually fair. You won't win the tournament, but you can go to worlds. I'd rather just go on in the tournament if it's Nats or something because the prizes are better and you might get the travel allowance.
