(2) New BW Rules, Black and White Collection Images [10/30]

Well on the new prize thing....I don't know often it doesn't matter what you put up when you're losing. It's just, I still play a T-tar deck so often it's my bench that gets hit.

Goodbye Stage2 Donking. Hello slow Stage2 decks.
Goodbye Uxie / Shuppet Donks.

Mind-numbing, to say the least. Dx WHAT HAVE THEY DONE!?

Balanced the game? Probably not. Rather, they've completely tilted the game towards SPs, until DP-PL RR sets get cut out...

Now Stage2s will be so freaking slow now... BTS is going to shoot up in price I bet, since Rare Candy will lose some of its usefulness and what made it so godly in the first place...

I hope they just reprint Pokemon Breeder, since it's practically the same thing as Rare Candy now. At least I can finally use my Legendary Collection RHs legally...

At least these effects will take place next year...but that doesn't change the fact that they'll probably occur.

Also, what's up with the Pokemon B/W set cards? Tsutarja & Jalorda's backgrounds look so dull and tasteless...Also, will every Stage2 card like Jalorda have that strange border? Or is it just specific / special cards?

Professor Araragi = Professor Oak Supporter-style. Looking forward to that card, at least. Jalorda's PokeBody stacked with Nidoqueen RR's body = 20 HP heal once between turns??? Massive healage?

Professor Araragi
Trainer’s - Support

Discard your entire hand, then draw 7 cards from your deck.

You can only use 1 Support card during your turn.
Another card that fits good into G-dos,

This game is becoming less and less appealing to me. SP decks have been in the spot light for far too long, and guess what? The new rules are doing nothing but helping them. How about bringing back the old school game mechanics? Hmmm...?

They ruined Rare Candy. All it can do now is just skip the stage 1 form of a stage 2 pokemon. I guess that means Jumpluff has no chance now. lol

But being able to play trainers first turn is just lame. If that includes BTS, Donphan IS the deck to play. Cause first or second, you'll be able to set up.

This is madness....turn 1 t/s/st????donks are jus gettin easier now...course,rare candy errata kinda balances it...but BTS is stil there :(

I don't mind these new rule changes. It's just something to freshen up the metagame though come
Rising Rivals-On when SP's are out of the fray we should be seeing a much more interesting format with the Black & White cards.

Rare Candy will still see play for Stage 2 decks, it's just not quite as good as it used to be where you can play a Stage 1 with it onto a Basic the turn you play it. I think they did this to balance the game in terms of preventing less donks from showing up in the game.

Whose tired of getting donked on Turn 2 by Stormfront Machamp after the use of a Rare Candy? This is probably the best solution TPCi could come up with to prevent less donks in the game. 1st turn Trainers eh? Does that include Supporters as well? If it does include Supporters we could be in for a bumpy ride...

They just ruined my Shuppet. Bleh. I have no idea why they needed to change the effect of Great Ball so drastically. The Rare Candy I can understand... I wonder if BTS will affect anything about that ruling.
I want the old wording for PlusPower back. I just might quit if they change how a card that's been out for 12 years, one that I used back in the day, and that I still use now.

I'm pretty much not liking the changes they're making.

Off Topic: @TDA: Madness? THIS IS SPARTA!!!
On-Topic: Extra, Extra! Jalroda finds usefullness in card game!
The starter kits give Grass-Frendly decks a boost!

Guys, Japan's format is completely different. These rules aren't all the sudden going to come into effect and be applied the same to us anytime soon.

These rules were set for HGSS-on, so it's only natural that they're meant for cards HGSS-on. They weren't thinking about SP or anything before HGSS when they created these rules; they wanted to balance the meta in Japan, so they decided to make their format HGSS-on and added all these new rules.

When these B/W comes out in America and these rules are set (if these rules are set), we'll probably be looking at either a RR-on or HGSS-on format.

Wow a Mid-Season Rotation? Seriously? If I remember correctly TPCi stated that they were going to rotate 4 sets per year after every Worlds but this was before Japan made these Rule Change Announcements.

So it looks like the U.S. and the Japanese Metagame isn't going to be entertwined anymore, not like how it was last format with DP-On. A Mid-Season Rotation would just screw up the current format and cause alot of players to quit or adapt to a HGSS-On metagame.

Let me get this straight, Stadiums and Supporters can now be Trainer Locked due to the new rulings?

@eeveelv99- I wasn't aware that shuppet was still alive so how can it die?
also is it just me or did pokemon center have no set number or rarity. The others did so why not him. Also for those of you hate the art work of the 2 new pokes look back to the starters from DP. Look familiar.
I really love that new supporter. Can't wait till I get my hands on it.

Now that you mention it, Japan's current format is HGSS-On. Ours is still Majestic Dawn-On.

Its been some time Ive been considering retiring from this game.

I think the time has arrived.

When BW came out, I ranted about basically every change they introduced, from not being able to trade items to 3 Abilities. But this is even worse, because I actually care about the TCG.

At first glance, I thought it was gonna be awesome. Prof. Oak as supporter? Ingenious. But then I realized that they renamed Supporters to Trainers again (adding that little Suporter word on the top right part). That's a detail, but I knew that there was something behind it - they had made Supporters very clear to prevent confusion, and now they changed it again?

As I scrolled down, I found the new rules post. 'Trainers and Supporters allowed on first turn'; ok, that's decent. We are moving back to Base Set, it seems; first DCE, now this. Auto-discarding Supporters and Plus Power is simply person - will just make things harder for judges, you'll always have to remember which one you used for Detour and Buck's Training, and does not improve the game in any way. Basically, pointless.

'Abilities' replacing Poké-Powers and Poké-Bodies. Why do this? They are replacing classic mechanics (they date back from e-Expedition days) with a new one that is essentially the same, just phrased into a single word. What were they thinking?! What's the benefit from it? To make the game clearer? I thought the distinction from Powers and Bodies was also very clear - the manual explains it in deep and the very way they are phrased leaves no doubt. Moreover, great cards from older sets (including, let's forget not, Gengar SF, Manectric PT and Umbreon UD) will become rather useless with Powers and Bodies gone. Just an excuse to 'develop' the game and make things fresh.

That's not the way a game develops. They should improve older concepts, especially those who work well like Powers and Bodies, and focus on making the game more pleasant to all.

But it got worse.

Great Ball and Rare Candy were errata'ed. Let me start by saying Im a big fan of Great Ball. I always liked its speed, its sure-fire ability to get a Basic without wasting a Roseanne or Collector. But they had to change it, and worse, change it to an effect that already existed, and that we knew as Master Ball - another card thats been around, if Im not mistaken, since the GYM days. That means that not only Great Ball is arguably worse (Ive seen many more decks run Great Ball than Master Ball), but they will also have to errata Master Ball! And if they errata it to give Great Ball's effect, then they should get a prize for supreme dumbness.

And finnally, there's nothing to be said about Rare Candy that wasnt said before. Stage 2 decks have been taking huge blows left and right: the rise of SPs, loss of Claydol (and basicaly loss of any reliable engine - Uxie X isnt reliable enough)... Now they lost the BEST card they had in their arsenal. No, we lost the best card in the GAME. Rare Candy is what makes the game competitive. The whole purpose of using Rare Candy is to avoid waiting to evolve your Pokemon, not to make you wait anyway. The greater benefit always was to auto evolve and avoid leaving a weak basic in your Bench (think Jumpluff), with the added bonus of automatically getting a Stage 2. Stage 2 decks, which in my humble opinion should be the majority of the metagame (that's how the effing game was built to be), have lost their biggest asset to their already hampered speed. All there's left to them, in matters of quick evolution, is the already standard (and all times favorite) Broken Time-Space.

Or are they errata'ing that too?

I'm currently making a 150+ card set based off Black and White, starting it before the Black and White collections were even announced. In this set, every Pokémon had an Ability, replacing the Powers and Bodies. Now that I see that Powers and Bodies are being combined into one to make Abilities, I'm honestly overjoyed. I love this. Not only does my idea see the light of day, but assuming we're getting a bunch of playable Stage 1 cards in these sets, then Gengar, Machamp, and a few other prominent cards in the metagame will become useless. I actually like this change. Out with the old, in with the new.

I expect that we will get 2 sets mashed up to form our sets, not sure though. If they're released every few months, I would expect our BW set to consist of the Boy/Girl, Beginning Set and another set. I'm looking forward to these!

I think it looks pretty interesting.

I'd say change is good. This won't affect us for a while yet, but when it does, it's just giving us a fresh new way to play. What's wrong with that?

Interesting read on the Rare Candy thing too!

EDIT!!
Just read that these important changes will be made when the BW set comes out! This should be implemented next season not now! SP is going to go crazy with all this and being able to use trainers first turn, sP will have a field day.
Interesting..
